The underwhelmingly-publicised Atlas Shrugged Part 3 has apparently been sneak-previewed in Las Vegas, and been well received.

Comets in Our Twilight: Licia Albanese

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Fri, 2014-06-27 08:25

Metropolitan Opera Grande Diva Licia Albanese will turn 101 next month. She appeared with Mario in the 1955 Warner Bros movie Serenade. In 1995 she and I were both in Philadelphia to attend the annual Mario Lanza Ball, where she performed a stellar, impromptu rendering of Star-Spangled Banner. A day prior to the Ball I recorded this interview with her. My thanks to Gregster for uploading and matching pics to audio:

Teaching the Controversy

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

The ignorant, irrational, evil Christians of Western Civilization today often say, with disarming simplicity: "Teach the controversy." On August 1st, 2005, U.S. President George W. Bush said: "Both sides should be properly taught" so "people can understand what the debate is about."

Intro to 'Total Passion'

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Sat, 2014-06-14 23:05

Kyrel Zantonavitch's new review on Amazon of my book, 'Total Passion for the Total Height,' prompted me to start re-reading the thing myself. As I made my way through the Introduction I became quite exercised by the trenchant accuracy of my own observations, and motivated to lift myself from the pessimistic funk induced by the horrors of which I write. It occurred to me that I'd never published that Introduction here. Here it is (oh, and of course, buy the book if you want more!):

Merry Xmas SOLOists

Goblians claim, mistakenly, that December 25 is Jeezy's birthday, and that Jeezy was the Son of Gobby while simultaneously being Gobby, while both were/are simultaneously Ghosty. It's all nonsense, of course, but one has to acknowledge it was/is momentous nonsense (one hopes for not much longer, even as a more vicious nonsense threatens to trump it). Let us, in the spirit of no nonsense, and SOLO's commitment to an aesthetic renewal, revel in this stellar performance of Tchaikovsky's life-and-beauty-proclaiming 5th Symphony and know what is possible to man in spite of the irrationalists in all their guises.

Islamofascism And The Age Of Treason

"In the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

I am going to keep this thread permanently blue-stickied, like Marcus's Global Warming thread, Philip Duck's UN thread, etc. It will serve as a repository for exhibits in my case that America has now become Airhead America indisputably—comprachicoed, cretinized, lobotomized, infantilized, collectivized, Slayerized, zombified, pomofied, Gramscified, Alinskyfied and generally filthified beyond recognition (from the Founding Fathers' Republic) and beyond salvation. It is not a cliff that America hovers atop; it is the abyss.

"The emotion involved in art is not an emotion in the ordinary meaning of the term. It is experienced more as a 'sense' or a 'feel,' but it has two characteristics pertaining to emotions: it is automatically immediate and it has an intense, profoundly personal (yet undefined) value-meaning to the individual experiencing it.
