'1984' Revisited—Reprised for Obvious Reasons

Lindsay Perigo's picture

I've added 1984 to the books I'm currently reading or, as in this case, re-reading. I'm astonished anew at how prescient it was. (Also refreshing, after Dostoevsky and Hugo, to encounter a writer who just gets on with it.) I assume everyone here is acquainted with it, so every day will just add a direct quote without commentary. This one is apposite in light of today's demonstrations by mindless leftist thugs:

Ethnic Cleansing in Academia Aotearoa

It's time to de-fund the New Zealand School of Music. This Woke-Fascist, taxpayer-funded travesty has just announced its support for Black Lives Matter—the Marxist terrorist sub-humans who, along with Profa, are currently looting, rioting, vandalising, burning and killing all across America. "If this country doesn't give us what we want," one of its spokes-specimens has just said, "we will burn down the system."

"What we want" includes de-funding the police.

Now this, from the latest NZSM newsletter:

A Cultivated Woman, Who Can Find?

Olivia's picture

A cultivated woman. Now there’s an expression from a by-gone era. When I think of what it means to cultivate oneself during this rather short lifespan of three-score years and ten – if we’re lucky, it strikes me what a dull, undeveloped spectacle most women allow themselves to remain during our time.

My grandmother used to have a term for ugly speech and ill-bred manners in a female – a “guttersnipe.” A guttersnipe was the very opposite of a cultivated woman. But it’s not just the lack of vocal beauty or manners where my criticism about my own sex originates, it's the abject neglect of developing discerning taste and a strong intellect.

"The emotion involved in art is not an emotion in the ordinary meaning of the term. It is experienced more as a 'sense' or a 'feel,' but it has two characteristics pertaining to emotions: it is automatically immediate and it has an intense, profoundly personal (yet undefined) value-meaning to the individual experiencing it.

Church of Wokengland

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Sun, 2020-06-28 08:09

The Church of England goes even more woefully Woke. It never cared much about actual Christian doctrine. One of the things Karl Marx got right was this: "The Anglican Church would more readily forgive an attack on 38 of its 39 Articles than on one 39th of its income."

The Anglican church should reconsider the way statues and other representations of Jesus portray him as white in the light of the Black Lives Matter protests, the archbishop of Canterbury has said.

Justin Welby also said that the church must look very carefully to see if they should all be there.

In an interview on Friday, the head of the Church of England said the west in general needed to question the prevailing mindset that depicted Christ as a white man in traditional Christian imagery.

Cancel Woke-Fascism: Watch 'Gone with the Wind' Today!

Lindsay Perigo's picture

The attempt by sub-human Taleban Woke-Fascists to rewrite history and destroy Western Civilisation and its distinctive ramparts, reason and freedom, has already backfired. Their latest target: the gorgeous classic Gone with the Wind. I believe these particular Woke-Taleban fascists, HBO, will put the movie back up eventually, but with an insufferably sanctimonious, prissy sermon about "racism," of which they, as it happens, are the worst real practitioners in this equation. Reassuringly, actual humans have got in first:

I'm delighted to see the thoroughly well-deserved tribute to Lady Olivia below. I'm sure she won't mind if I report that her excellent comments to Bro Hubbard the Woke seem to stem from a private conversation she and I had in which she chided me for using the term "evil" too often. Olivia had fallen for the tired old line that the term loses its efficacy with over-use. My rejoinder was that "evil" should be used as often as applicable; that not to use it when applicable is moral abdication; and that, in demonstrable fact, those who practise this moral abdication, far from reserving their use of the term for special occasions, never use it at all!

New Zealand Joins the Third World

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Sun, 2020-05-24 06:21

When Parliament rushed through the Wuhan Virus Public Health Response Bill last week, the redoubtable Cameron Slater observed that New Zealand had thereby formally become a police state. The following atrocities from the Act make clear that this claim was not hyperbole. Allow time for the enormity of these abominations to sink in. Note the repeated use of the term "without limitation" in the enumeration of the totalitarian powers granted here. Ask yourself how long it will be before unWoke opinions, especially on the subject of the Wuhan virus, are deemed by Woke "enforcement officers," unelected and unaccountable, to promote the spread thereof or hinder efforts to prevent the spread thereof; how long before Woke constables raid the houses of the offending unWoke opiners without a warrant—as they are now empowered to do—and haul them off to indefinite solitary confinement in some specified Gulag—as they are now empowered to do? There are no words to express the treasonous viciousness of this legislation; none to capture the evil of the regime that passed it. Tragically, if the words did exist, very few would use them; part of the success of the Fascist Woke is that they have created a world in which evil is deemed merely "concerning," "troubling," "disappointing" or "problematic."

We are no longer part of the Free World; we are indeed a police state, a dictatorship and a banana republic, tyrannised by a grotesque, fry-quacking, upward-inflecting, infantile/moronnial, Narcissistic gargoyle whose vapidness is matched only by her evil and whose power is now "without limitation." That is not "concerning"; it is cataclysmic:

13 Freedom of thought, conscience, and religion

14 Freedom of expression

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban Islamophobia, following the killing of dozens of people on a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand.

“IUMS calls on non-Muslim countries to ban the spread of hatred against Islam and Muslims,” IUMS President Ahmed al-Raisouni said in a statement at the conclusion of a 2-day session held in Istanbul on Friday.

I have a better idea. Why don't all countries require all people—citizens, non-citizen residents or visitors—within their jurisdiction, as a prerequisite for being within their jurisdiction, to sign the following pledge:

"Just as I reserve the right to hold and express my opinions on any matter whatsoever, I promise to respect the right of all others to do the same. I renounce unreservedly the use of coercion and violence in the promotion of my opinions."

Saving Free Speech from Profa

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Tue, 2018-11-27 00:23

It was reassuring to read on WhaleOil about a new organisation called Advance Australia which humans are joining "to make sure their beloved country doesn’t succumb to rampant radicalism or political correctness" of the kind viciously promoted by the Soros-funded group GetUp. We could do with something like Advance Australia in New Zealand, where sub-humans—biological humans who nonetheless renounce reason and repair to force—are attempting to end free speech at every turn. They are our local Antifa, except that Antifa should be called (and will be by me henceforth) "Profa" because they are pro-fascist. In their behaviour, appearance and mindless malice they are the modern-day version of Mussolini's Blackshirts. In their beliefs they are Islamo-Marxists, which makes them fascists also.

Alyssa – a Tribute (amended)

My warm and lasting appreciation of a true genius, Ayn Rand

Nicholas Dykes

I'm seventy-seven years old, the age at which Ayn Rand died – on March 6, 1982. Six years ago, on November 24, 2013, I suffered a near-fatal stroke, a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage, but was saved by the quick thinking of my wife, Rachel – who didn't panic, just got me into hospital as fast as possible – and by some brilliant modern surgery (I believe developed in the USA) carried out by Professor Stefan Zigmunt at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, assisted by neuroradiologist Dr Swarupsinh Chavda. The operation involved inserting a tiny camera and miniscule stents through my veins to seal the ruptured arteries. Professor Zigmunt did the insertion, Dr Chavda guided him to the ruptures.

Devoy vs Voltaire—Reprised with PS, Aug 14, 2017

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Wed, 2017-02-08 22:50

[Reprised with Post-Script, Aug 14, 2017]

Apocryphally, in 1770, the French writer and provocateur François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire) wrote to a French priest, “Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write." Actually, he said no such thing. Biographer Evelyn Beatrice Hall, trying to capture the libertarian essence of his attitude to the burning of a book whose content he disapproved of, came up with: “I disapprove of what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.” The saying, formulated that way, has been attributed to Voltaire ever since.
