ARC Press Release: ObamaCare’s Assault on Individual RightsSubmitted by Ayn Rand Center on Fri, 2010-03-19 22:42
ObamaCare’s Assault on Individual Rights March 19, 2010 WASHINGTON--“We’re told that ObamaCare aims to make health care more affordable to more people, but in fact it threatens the rights of everyone involved in health care--doctors, patients, and health insurers--and thus the future of the industry,” writes Tom Bowden, analyst at the Ayn Rand Center.
Health Care “Deeming” as Political AdulterySubmitted by Ed Hudgins on Fri, 2010-03-19 21:46
Health Care “Deeming” as Political Adultery March 19, 2010 -- Let’s imagine a woman who is getting pressure from some obnoxious sleazeball stud to cheat on her husband and commit adultery. She’s tempted but, if caught, wants some excuse with which to placate her outraged husband so she can avoid a divorce. “Honest, honey, I didn’t consent!” And let’s imagine that the sleazeball wants to protect himself from a rape charge and probable beating by the husband.
A book I won't be wasting my money on and some other reflectionsSubmitted by Tom Burroughes on Thu, 2010-03-18 15:30
I guess it is inevitable - even a sign that the author is taken seriously - that a lot of people continue to throw rocks at Ayn Rand. A book I came across recently is "Ayn Rand Contra Human Nature", published by Greg Nyquist. You can read some of the Amazon reviews of this tome here (http://www.amazon.com/Ayn-Rand...) Mr Nyquist's blog also continues an almost daily diet of invective against Objectivism, Objectivists, and classical liberalism generally. Indeed the tone of the book is almost guaranteed to rile even the gentlest soul. It reminds me of a certain kind of smart-arse student I used to encounter at my college. [Lifted from Brant Gaede's 'Hey Now' thread. 'Psycho-Prof' is, of course, Robert Campbell.] I note that Psycho-Prof is one of the speakers at this year's TAS Summer Seminar. He's to hold forth on whether it's Mayhew or Rand answering in Ayn Rand Answers. Although this might be one of the few subjects on which he and I agree, you'd think he'd be over it by now. The tapes of the original undoctored answers are available to all and sundry, after all. Al Capone–Style Health CareSubmitted by Ed Hudgins on Thu, 2010-03-11 14:57
Al Capone–Style Health Care March 10, 2010 — The Obama administration wants no one to focus on the process involved in the production and passage of its health care takeover—not that it wants us to focus much on the substance, either. After all, politics always involves some trade-offs and even a little bit of arm-twisting. Like making sausage, it’s not nice to watch but the products can be mighty tasty.
