Mike_M's blogTenure Shrugged: A Scholar's Affinity for the Philosophy of Ayn Rand Cost Him His JobSubmitted by Mike_M on Thu, 2007-07-05 20:15.
From the Chronicle of Higher Education. John Lewis loses his job because of Objectivism. Note for those who doubt the threat on the right: Lewis was ousted by "mainstream and evangelical Christians." Not liberals. Recent Comments: I was confused since Stark — by Mike_M on Fri, July 20, 2007 at 06:05 Theocrats W/O a base? PAR The MovieSubmitted by Mike_M on Sun, 2006-06-04 23:41.
Linz keeps bugging me to post my thoughts on the Passion of Ayn Rand movie, so I'll do that now. Here is the original post I made, plus some of what I wrote in the comments. I opened a NetFlix account a few weeks ago. My first rentals were all five Death Wish movies. The only good one was the first. I also got to watch The Passion of Ayn Rand on Friday, thanks to NetFlix. The Passion of Ayn Rand is a horrible movie. I’m not talking about its gross historical inaccuracies. I’m not talking about the fact that the movie makes Barbara Branden out to be a hero surrounded by idiots. In fact, I expected to see a good, though unjust and inaccurate, movie about deception, betrayal, and sex. So I’m not talking about this movie from a Rand-fan point of view. I’m talking about this from the point of view of a movie buff. I’m talking about the awful dialogue. I’m talking about the total lack of character development. I’m talking about the near randomness of the plot. Protest for Free SpeechSubmitted by Mike_M on Wed, 2006-04-26 22:48.
Over at The Rule of Reason, the blog of The Center for the Advancement of Capitalism, Nick Provenzo proposes a protest in Washington D.C. in defense of free speech. I think this is a great idea. Go check out his post and give him some support if you like the idea.
