Report from the U.S. House of Representatives on Energy & Morality

By Dr. Edward Hudgins

August 8, 2008 -- I spent an extraordinary day in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives, sitting in seats normally reserved for members of Congress but with members sitting right in front of me. No, I was not elected to that august body.

Ayatollah Spitzer's History: He Does to Whores What He Did to Us

It is ironic that New York Democrat Governor Eliot Spitzer has had his undeserved reputation for high moral standards tarnished by his sexual escapades which, while perhaps sleazy, did not harm any of us. In fact he deserved our moral scorn for his assault on productive individuals and flaunting of the rule of law when he was New York attorney general, done arrogantly in the name of "morality."

Report from the Front: Why Africa Needs Economic Freedom

by Dr. Edward Hudgins

The Atlas Society

As he departed for a tour of Africa, President George W. Bush said the United States rejects "the paternalist notion that treats African countries as charity cases." I wish he would reject the paternalist notions of his own administration that treats American citizens as charity cases. No matter, let's consider that impoverished continent for a moment.

How Al Gore is Ruining Opera

By Edward Hudgins

[A longer version of this piece will appear in The New Individualist.]

I love opera! Thus recently at the Kennedy Center I saw Die Walküre, the second installment of Richard Wagner's monumental four-part cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, about gods and goddesses, giants and dwarfs, and mortal human heroes. The music, singing and acting were superb. But the program notes seemed like Al Gore channeling Karl Marx.
