CNN has a well-integrated set of online maps that allow us to follow the election county by county.

Here's a snapshot of their 2004 Texas map, by way of example.

Parsing Walker's "The Ayn Rand Cult"

William Scott Scherk's picture
Submitted by William Scott Scherk on Mon, 2008-07-14 19:49.

-- James Heaps-Nelson had asked a general question about undue critical attention paid in the Mullah Rand thread, to, well, the text of Mullah Rand, and by extension to the author and poster of redacted chapters, James Valliant.

JHN: Also, why the continual campaign against PARC and only PARC? Why not a campaign against Jeff Walker's Ayn Rand Cult?

Below is a cull from that book. In light of Sciabarra's spanking of Walker, and JHN's question, here's an opportunity to see how the book weaves its argument together . . . and to take the scope off James Valliant's work till he gets back on the ice in the series promoting PARC.

It is odd how many of the rhetorical devices in the "Virgin looking for Blood" thread are found on this site.

I find the SOLO site to be very impressive, with so many tools for communication. Props to the team.

I am coming to the faith that a truly free site (which SOLO now mostly is due to the light touch that is Linz's genius) may be like a map of the world.

'Altruism' in the News

William Scott Scherk's picture
Submitted by William Scott Scherk on Tue, 2007-01-23 03:58.

A study out of Duke University is making world media rounds today, with some outlets going for the gusto:

"Belief in People Presages Altruism," blurts PsychCentral; "Are you a giver? Brain scan finds the truth," exults Scientific American; "Why Do Good? Brain Study Offers Clues," says the Washington Post.

I'm sure this study will garner some reaction from the Objectivist world (me, I'm hoping for Diana Mertz Hsieh).

Here's the abstract of the 'Brief Communication' "Altruism is associated with an increased neural response to agency" as it appears in Nature Neuroscience.

Here's the full text of the Duke press release (link), with a google newslist link down below for the absolute junkies.
