'1984' Revisited—Reprised for Obvious Reasons

Lindsay Perigo's picture

I've added 1984 to the books I'm currently reading or, as in this case, re-reading. I'm astonished anew at how prescient it was. (Also refreshing, after Dostoevsky and Hugo, to encounter a writer who just gets on with it.) I assume everyone here is acquainted with it, so every day will just add a direct quote without commentary. This one is apposite in light of today's demonstrations by mindless leftist thugs:

In this, her last public appearance, four months before she died at 77, "The Bravest [and sharpest] Man in America" chided American businessmen for being apologetic. I can't imagine what she would say about the current cowardly craven corporate capitulation to Wokery. Or the capitulation to Wokery by the Institute bearing her name, fronted by scweeching Yawon the Histewical:

Liberals Go After Tucker Carlson, Again

30th July 2020

Liberals have been viciously going after Tucker Carlson ever since his show on Fox News turned into a runaway success for the network over the last four years.

In November of 2018, after a left-wing journalist posted Carlson’s home address online, an ANTIFA mob congregated outside his house chanting, “Tucker Carlson, we will fight, we know where you sleep at night.” The group who called themselves “Smash Racism D.C.,” tweeted out photos of the Carlson property and its address. This is the same group who chased Senator Ted Cruz and his wife Heidi out of a restaurant during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. They told Cruz that he “was not safe.”

It's disgusting that Crusher's opening salvo against the evil Wokery of Jacinda Ardern has consisted of ... more evil Wokery. So Labour had "dirt" on a National MP, involving a texted image to a young female. As best we can tell, no laws were broken, no rights were breached. Crusher fired the MP in a bid to look "decisive." Then she let Jacinda know she had something similar on one of her, Jacinda's, ministers. Again, no laws broken, no rights breached. Jacinda, rather than saying what she should have said: "Fuck off, it was a consensual relationship, and no one else's business!" fired the minister in her own bid to win in the "decisiveness" stakes. Worse, that minister abjectly apologised and condemned his own behaviour as, in the favoured terminology of Woke-Fascists, "inappropriate."

The best thing Judith Collins said during her first press conference as National Party leader came right at the end: "I think it might be time for a drink."

Here we had intimations at least that the prim, prissy, prudish neo-Puritanism, the Woke-Fascism unleashed on the nation by the Marxist Jacinda Ardern might have met its match.

[Edit: This is now two weeks old, but it still holds in my opinion. Judith will deserve to win this year’s election only inasmuch as she will hold to National’s founding principles. Boring, tawdry sexual misconduct issues definitely do not count as that.]

16th July 2020

In just one interview yesterday evening, a thrilled Judith Collins reminded New Zealanders that there still happens to be a few adults left in the room of politics.

Strong and confident in front of the press, while still being able to retain a sense of humour – “I think it might be time for a drink,” Judith, not Jacinda, is the woman who could breathe some fresh air back into this stale country.

It's time to de-fund the New Zealand School of Music. This Woke-Fascist, taxpayer-funded travesty has just announced its support for Black Lives Matter—the Marxist terrorist sub-humans who, along with Profa, are currently looting, rioting, vandalising, burning and killing all across America. "If this country doesn't give us what we want," one of its spokes-specimens has just said, "we will burn down the system."

"What we want" includes de-funding the police.

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban Islamophobia, following the killing of dozens of people on a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand.

“IUMS calls on non-Muslim countries to ban the spread of hatred against Islam and Muslims,” IUMS President Ahmed al-Raisouni said in a statement at the conclusion of a 2-day session held in Istanbul on Friday.

I have a better idea. Why don't all countries require all people—citizens, non-citizen residents or visitors—within their jurisdiction, as a prerequisite for being within their jurisdiction, to sign the following pledge:

"Just as I reserve the right to hold and express my opinions on any matter whatsoever, I promise to respect the right of all others to do the same. I renounce unreservedly the use of coercion and violence in the promotion of my opinions."

Saving Free Speech from Profa

Lindsay Perigo's picture

It was reassuring to read on WhaleOil about a new organisation called Advance Australia which humans are joining "to make sure their beloved country doesn’t succumb to rampant radicalism or political correctness" of the kind viciously promoted by the Soros-funded group GetUp. We could do with something like Advance Australia in New Zealand, where sub-humans—biological humans who nonetheless renounce reason and repair to force—are attempting to end free speech at every turn. They are our local Antifa, except that Antifa should be called (and will be by me henceforth) "Profa" because they are pro-fascist. In their behaviour, appearance and mindless malice they are the modern-day version of Mussolini's Blackshirts. In their beliefs they are Islamo-Marxists, which makes them fascists also.

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Wed, 2017-02-08 22:50

[Reprised with Post-Script, Aug 14, 2017]

Apocryphally, in 1770, the French writer and provocateur François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire) wrote to a French priest, “Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write." Actually, he said no such thing. Biographer Evelyn Beatrice Hall, trying to capture the libertarian essence of his attitude to the burning of a book whose content he disapproved of, came up with: “I disapprove of what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.” The saying, formulated that way, has been attributed to Voltaire ever since.

Socially Engineering the "New Normal"

Bruno's picture

Their plan is decided upon

The elites running this world have decided that the best way to control us is by imposing Chinese-style forms of control. We can look forward to mass vaccinations and "health passports" which will attest to our compliance with their vaccination prescription.

One can safely assume, however, that the vaccination question, with all its risks, is only one part of the whole "new normal". Once the idea of the health passport is in place, more and more controls of this kind will be easily implemented.

This is the ten-trillion-dollar question burning in the minds of many – except for NZ journalists, who day-after-day sit through press conferences about the Covid crisis with our government leaders and never mention the word “China.”

The fact that our largest trading partner has obviously indulged in a monumental cover-up that has brought the entire world economy to its knees and literally paused our lives in a Kafkaesque lockdown should see all our journalists peppering our leaders with questions about our country’s future relations with China. Instead we hear them only asking about the details of government handouts. They are beyond pathetic and the very definition of “non-essential” workers.

I read an opinion piece on Stuff yesterday (24/4/2020) that was a typical anti-Trump complete with the writer’s own emotional biography on points. Being critical of Trump is fine and a different thing from an implacable bias of Trump is wrong on everything.

As has been pointed out in the Spectator online today there is a difference between taking Trump literally as opposed to taking seriously. It has been said that 'supporters take him seriously but not literally’ as they can see the "tradie" like humour and ironical bathos: The MSM 'media take him literally' and each word fundamentally, because ideologically they are puritan like fundamentalists in a word game that has become detached from practical reality. But they do not take him seriously.

The fellow in this video is altogether too kind. Perhaps he's been contaminated by Jihadi Jacinda's nauseating, phony exhortations to "be kind" (as if we need to be instructed by an unelected, fry-quacking, woke, fascist airhead as to how to be decent in an emergency or at any other time). Stuff are everything this chap says they are, and more. They are a virus as insidious as the one from Wuhan in their relentless campaign for the triumph of Islamo-Marxism over Western Civilisation and their suppression of dissenting views. Now apparently they are begging for contributions from the very people whom they insult, denigrate and de-humanise every day: decent, regular human beings who mistakenly—out of habit more than anything else probably—read their mindless, snowflake, tabloid totalitarian trash. In days of yore, The Dominion was a repository for actual journalism, a phenomenon some of us are old enough to remember; now, there is not a journalist in sight—just a cluster of illiterate woke wankers pushing their evil group-think agenda under the guise of reportage. The FBI Exposed yet Again by Inspector General Horowitz

Olivia's picture

By Olivia Pierson
https://www.oliviapierson.org/...

While the world is currently facing a health crisis with the Wu-flu which dominates the news in all nations, there are still major political issues going on which have not yet been given the full attention that they deserve.

One of these issues is another report undertaken by Michael Horowitz, the Inspector General for the U.S Justice Department, about the FBI’s habit of falsifying information to spy on American citizens through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

The intelligence agencies were always a major target for President Trump’s open contempt because he knew they had conspired to overturn the result of the 2016 election, which saw him become America’s president.

The President was vindicated entirely when the IG’s first report found that the FBI, under James Comey, falsified facts and information on the FISA court warrants to have, not only the president’s campaign team spied upon, but also his transition team when he was the President-elect, and then on his actual presidency well into 2017.

We have been suddenly stripped of our liberties – and so rapidly everyone appears addled by the speed of the head-spin.

Like penned sheep let out now and then for a little skip around the paddock, we’re all “safely” in lockdown while our government charts a course for our country behind closed doors.

If I lived in America with a President Trump at the helm, I might feel more at ease knowing, in the old-school American tradition, how livelihood friendly and freedom-loving he happens to be. Because of him, that country will survive and make good over time, but that’s not to undermine the economic pain that’s now in the immediate future of Americans, apart from Joe Biden who won’t even notice.

But in New Zealand? Our PM’s only claim to a credential before she became our PM was President of the International Union of Socialist Youth – and she was not outrightly elected by New Zealand citizens in 2017, she got there by a dint of the minority-loving MMP system, along with the power-hungry tactics of a fossilised snollygoster such as Winston Peters.

Now that the Wuhan virus has hit every country in the world and made them all panic, it is becoming obvious that if we keep our countries in an economic lockdown, another Great Depression could take many more lives than the virus has the potential to do.

We are hearing our leaders say to us that we all need to put ourselves on a “war-footing.”

Quintessential Islamo-Marxist, Fascist Wokery

Surely one of the ugliest and most evil of the Ugly Wimmin's League to date, an Islamo-Marxist Fascist on steroids, celebrates Boris' testing positive for Korana/Comchinavirus. I wonder what Britonistan's Woke "police," under Britonistan's "hate speech" laws—assiduously being promoted here by Jihadi Jacinda and Comrade Little-Lenin—will do about this. One hopes, nothing. Free speech, however vile, as long as it doesn't advocate the initiation of force. To free speech, of course, Wokers are fanatically hostile, even as they take advantage of it:

Nazifa Zaman, the chair of the University of Warwick Labour Society, celebrated Boris Johnson being tested positive for coronavirus.

Earlier today, Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, revealed that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

This, for some reason, rather pleased Nazifa Zaman, the chair of the University of Warwick Labour Society, who took to Twitter to celebrate.

Zahman tweeted “Pm got covid? Happy Muslim women’s day again!”

"Nazifa"? How appropriate!!

In what can only be described as a badly-timed asymmetrical war tactic, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been facilitating tens of thousands of Middle Eastern and African migrants to storm the borders with Greece and Bulgaria in an attempt to flood Europe with more third-world refugees.

A little book found its way into my hands the other day, titled Turn the Tide – Reclaiming Religious Freedom in New Zealand. It has been copyrighted by “The Barnabas Fund” and is available for download through the website OurReligiousFreedom.org.nz.

The book has a central concern that Christianity is becoming subject to increasing discrimination which the writer calls ‘Christianophobia.'

Rights Based on Natural Law, Part One: According to John Locke

No discussion of human rights can ever be embarked upon without at least a basic summary understanding about the thoughts of English political philosopher John Locke (1632 – 1704).

In his work Two Treatises on Government, Locke, who had just returned from exile in Holland when the 1688 Glorious Revolution saw William of Orange take the throne, argued against the divine right of kings while his contemporaries, Thomas Hobbes and Sir Robert Filmer, had made arguments for it – Filmer because he believed kingship was a sovereign right ordained by God, and Hobbes because he believed man to be so base and corrupted that he must be subject to external controls, i.e, absolute governance.

Inspiring, Timely Reminder from Dr Bella d'Abrera

Why Western civilisation is worth defending

Dr Bella d’Abrera | Director 'Foundations of Western Civilisation Program' at Institute of Public Affairs | insights@nzinitiative.org.nz

New Zealand is vulnerable to the same threats to their freedoms Australia is struggling with – and arguably the risk has already arrived.

The worst assault across the ditch comes initially out of US and UK universities where a hybrid utopian movement of the most dangerous aspects of postmodernism and collectivism has been rebooted in the form of social justice, intersectionality and identity politics.
