'1984' Revisited—Reprised for Obvious Reasons

Lindsay Perigo's picture

I've added 1984 to the books I'm currently reading or, as in this case, re-reading. I'm astonished anew at how prescient it was. (Also refreshing, after Dostoevsky and Hugo, to encounter a writer who just gets on with it.) I assume everyone here is acquainted with it, so every day will just add a direct quote without commentary. This one is apposite in light of today's demonstrations by mindless leftist thugs:

In this, her last public appearance, four months before she died at 77, "The Bravest [and sharpest] Man in America" chided American businessmen for being apologetic. I can't imagine what she would say about the current cowardly craven corporate capitulation to Wokery. Or the capitulation to Wokery by the Institute bearing her name, fronted by scweeching Yawon the Histewical:

Liberals Go After Tucker Carlson, Again

30th July 2020

Liberals have been viciously going after Tucker Carlson ever since his show on Fox News turned into a runaway success for the network over the last four years.

In November of 2018, after a left-wing journalist posted Carlson’s home address online, an ANTIFA mob congregated outside his house chanting, “Tucker Carlson, we will fight, we know where you sleep at night.” The group who called themselves “Smash Racism D.C.,” tweeted out photos of the Carlson property and its address. This is the same group who chased Senator Ted Cruz and his wife Heidi out of a restaurant during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. They told Cruz that he “was not safe.”

It's disgusting that Crusher's opening salvo against the evil Wokery of Jacinda Ardern has consisted of ... more evil Wokery. So Labour had "dirt" on a National MP, involving a texted image to a young female. As best we can tell, no laws were broken, no rights were breached. Crusher fired the MP in a bid to look "decisive." Then she let Jacinda know she had something similar on one of her, Jacinda's, ministers. Again, no laws broken, no rights breached. Jacinda, rather than saying what she should have said: "Fuck off, it was a consensual relationship, and no one else's business!" fired the minister in her own bid to win in the "decisiveness" stakes. Worse, that minister abjectly apologised and condemned his own behaviour as, in the favoured terminology of Woke-Fascists, "inappropriate."

The best thing Judith Collins said during her first press conference as National Party leader came right at the end: "I think it might be time for a drink."

Here we had intimations at least that the prim, prissy, prudish neo-Puritanism, the Woke-Fascism unleashed on the nation by the Marxist Jacinda Ardern might have met its match.

[Edit: This is now two weeks old, but it still holds in my opinion. Judith will deserve to win this year’s election only inasmuch as she will hold to National’s founding principles. Boring, tawdry sexual misconduct issues definitely do not count as that.]

16th July 2020

In just one interview yesterday evening, a thrilled Judith Collins reminded New Zealanders that there still happens to be a few adults left in the room of politics.

Strong and confident in front of the press, while still being able to retain a sense of humour – “I think it might be time for a drink,” Judith, not Jacinda, is the woman who could breathe some fresh air back into this stale country.

It's time to de-fund the New Zealand School of Music. This Woke-Fascist, taxpayer-funded travesty has just announced its support for Black Lives Matter—the Marxist terrorist sub-humans who, along with Profa, are currently looting, rioting, vandalising, burning and killing all across America. "If this country doesn't give us what we want," one of its spokes-specimens has just said, "we will burn down the system."

"What we want" includes de-funding the police.

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban Islamophobia, following the killing of dozens of people on a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand.

“IUMS calls on non-Muslim countries to ban the spread of hatred against Islam and Muslims,” IUMS President Ahmed al-Raisouni said in a statement at the conclusion of a 2-day session held in Istanbul on Friday.

I have a better idea. Why don't all countries require all people—citizens, non-citizen residents or visitors—within their jurisdiction, as a prerequisite for being within their jurisdiction, to sign the following pledge:

"Just as I reserve the right to hold and express my opinions on any matter whatsoever, I promise to respect the right of all others to do the same. I renounce unreservedly the use of coercion and violence in the promotion of my opinions."

Saving Free Speech from Profa

Lindsay Perigo's picture

It was reassuring to read on WhaleOil about a new organisation called Advance Australia which humans are joining "to make sure their beloved country doesn’t succumb to rampant radicalism or political correctness" of the kind viciously promoted by the Soros-funded group GetUp. We could do with something like Advance Australia in New Zealand, where sub-humans—biological humans who nonetheless renounce reason and repair to force—are attempting to end free speech at every turn. They are our local Antifa, except that Antifa should be called (and will be by me henceforth) "Profa" because they are pro-fascist. In their behaviour, appearance and mindless malice they are the modern-day version of Mussolini's Blackshirts. In their beliefs they are Islamo-Marxists, which makes them fascists also.

Devoy vs Voltaire—Reprised with PS, Aug 14, 2017

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Wed, 2017-02-08 22:50

[Reprised with Post-Script, Aug 14, 2017]

Apocryphally, in 1770, the French writer and provocateur François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire) wrote to a French priest, “Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write." Actually, he said no such thing. Biographer Evelyn Beatrice Hall, trying to capture the libertarian essence of his attitude to the burning of a book whose content he disapproved of, came up with: “I disapprove of what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.” The saying, formulated that way, has been attributed to Voltaire ever since.

As a libertarian, I'm supposed to believe that the government has no role to play in broadcasting.

Broadcasting is supposed to be just another domain in which human beings interact voluntarily. Government's role is simply to protect the right of humans to do that.

As a recovering Objectivist, mesmerised by Ayn Rand's utopic idealism but brought down to earth by Orange Man Bad's optimistic realism, I recognise that for the ideal of voluntary interaction to be effected optimally, certain traditions, customs, institutions and cultural standards integral to Western Civilisation must be honoured and maintained. Some of these would be dismissed as "collectivist" by the official spokespeople for Objectivism. Among these would be the concept of sovereign nation states with defined borders, and their maintenance of an official language and said cultural standards within those borders.

From Peace to Prosperity - Trump’s Middle East Peace Plan

President Trump’s ambitious plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has resulted in the laying out a detailed road map for a prosperous Palestinian society. It relies on the vision of a two-state solution, something which Netanyahu had lost faith in.

The Peace to Prosperity 181-page document is endorsed by both Bibi Netanyahu and his political rival Benny Gantz, regardless of which one wins the upcoming legislative elections in March. https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-...

Unlike the plan laid out during the famous Oslo Accords in 1993, this peace plan directly addresses important topics such as borders, security, refugees and Jerusalem. The plan is concrete, practical, respectful of long-standing differences and requires strong concessions from both sides.

What Happened to Renaud Camus is Coming to NZ

Olivia's picture
Submitted by Olivia on Wed, 2020-02-05 23:52

By Olivia Pierson
https://www.oliviapierson.org/...

Controversial French author and philosopher, Renaud Camus, has been convicted and sentenced for “public incitement to hatred or violence by reason of origin, ethnicity, nation, race or religion through words, writings, images or public media by electronic means.”

Judges gave Camus a two-month suspended prison sentence as well as ordering him to compensate two anti-racist organisations to the tune of 1800 euros.

The conviction is the result of a speech Camus made to the National Council of European Resistance in November 2017, where he declared that:

“Immigration has become an invasion[..] The irreversible colonisation is demographic colonisation, by the replacement of the population. The ethnic substitution, the great replacement, is the most important event in the history of our nation since it has existed; as with other people, if the story continues, it will not be that of France.”

Camus, who is decidedly against all forms of violence, has been punished for criticising immigration.

Evil Is Metaphysically Potent

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Sat, 2020-02-01 07:57

Longtime friend Amy (formerly Agnes-Mary) Brooke, uniquely literate and articulate commentator, begins her most recent Spectator article by quoting me:

https://www.spectator.co.uk/20...

Shouldn’t we target the sheer hypocrisy, the pretence that constantly frightening youngsters with prophecies of doom – now the case for several decades – is not contributing to the growing incidence of suicide among our young?

I’ve been recently struck by an email from a long-time friend. Lindsay Perigo was formerly Television New Zealand’s best presenter and interviewer when chairing political debates. With the dumbing down of television and his comment that TVNZ had become brain-dead, he lost any chance of being re-employed in this field. Continuing to be involved in media activities, he wrote, ‘What a dreadful scam this climate change thing is!’ But most interestingly, as he has long been an atheist, ‘I almost believe in God now because it’s so clear there is a Devil.’

Identity Fascist Pocahontas says a 9-year-old trans will select her Secretary of Education. It's a cliche to say "You can't make this up," but it's true in this case.

Loathsome low-IQ Lemon, who's enough to turn any gay person into a homophobe, recently betrayed his profession in the most egregious manner to date, which is saying a lot:

NZ Freedom-Lovers: Do Not Vote for Popper/Soros's ACT Party Under Any Circumstances!

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Mon, 2020-01-27 05:30

The following anti-Trump press release from the open borders ACT Party speaks for itself. Riding on Orange Man Bad's "MAGA" coat-tails, they nonetheless denounce as "insane" Trump's level of spending in "good times" without asking how the "good times" came about. Radical deregulation and tax-lowering, perhaps—things ACT claims to believe in? Do they think there'd have been good times under their pin-up, Crooked? No acknowledgement of the need to rebuild the military after Obamarx's deliberate, treasonous neutering of it, either. If ACT aren't the best example out there of "controlled opposition" I don't know what is. Pretend to stand for free speech and the right to self-defence—but be conveniently absent from the House when crucial votes are taken, and scoff at those who demand a serious commitment to taking New Zealand out of the Global Migration Compact, under which criticism of Islam is about to be criminalised. Get Gutless Gormless Goofy out!

Brendan O'Neill on Laurence Fox and the Woke McCarthyists

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Fri, 2020-01-24 21:23

The admirable Brendan O'Neill, free speech hero, editor of Spiked, writes:

"Disagree with the cultural elites and they will try to destroy you.

"An Oxford professor is provided with security guards after she received threats from trans activists who hate her views on sex and gender. Actors call on other actors to denounce and effectively blacklist Laurence Fox after he criticised the excesses of woke culture. A UK university employs conversation monitors to listen out for, and reprimand, ‘racial microaggressions’. And that’s all in just the last few days. Anyone who denies that there’s a crisis of freedom of speech is lying to themselves. The culture of intolerance is growing. It must be resisted. In 2020, let’s stand up for the right to think, say, write and tweet freely. For the right to dissent from orthodoxies old and new and to express our convictions openly, however unpopular they might be. The health of public life and of democracy itself depends on the free exchange of ideas and beliefs."

The Child Molesters of the Mind Pervert More NZ Children

Olivia's picture
Submitted by Olivia on Thu, 2020-01-23 01:20

By Olivia Pierson
https://www.oliviapierson.org/...

New Zealand schools are now nothing more than perverted institutions of political propaganda aimed at innocent children by leftist educational activists posing as teachers – otherwise known as child molesters of the mind. Lindsay Perigo, the boldest broadcaster we’ve ever seen in this country, labelled them thus years ago, but if anything, even he may have understated the case.

The ringleaders of this disgusting racket, Jacinda Ardern, James Shaw and Chris Hipkins, are about to unleash onto our nation’s 11-15 year-olds a ‘climate literacy’ course titled Climate Change – Prepare Today, Live Well Tomorrow, where, as Perigo points out, feelings are given priority over reason and facts.

Fear: The Filth's Foremost Firearm

Lindsay Perigo's picture
Submitted by Lindsay Perigo on Mon, 2020-01-20 04:18

Here's an excellent interview with a retired sociology(!) professor about the way The Fascist Filth uses fear as a means to destroy dissent, dumb everything down, promote infantilism and mediocrity-worship (including the obscenity of non-judgmentalism), glorify deliberate mindlessness, etc.

Compelling viewing—and exemplary non-intrusive interviewing of this Marxist-turned-libertarian/conservative by Peter Whittle.
