I've often asked both Bwook and Binswanger why they don't move to the barrio of Santa Ana in order to enjoy the "diversity" they champion for Americans. For what ever reason, they never deign to answer and continue to live in their gated, lily-white fortress "communities." Funny how that is.

Grant - Santa Ana

Neil Parille's picture

A while ago you mentioned that Brook should have moved to Santa Ana, California which is closer to ARI HQ (Irvine) than his gated community.

There was a story yesterday in The New York Times about 80% Hispanic Santa Ana. Sounds like a real hell hole, although the story didn't mention crime. Unfortunately my free articles ran out so I can't get the data. Even though it's 80% Hispanic, people still complain about the "lingering discrimination." I bet whites and Asians are the only ones being discriminated against there.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10...

Here is an article about crime in Santa Ana:

The crime rate in Santa Ana is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 21 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Santa Ana is 1 in 47. Based on FBI crime data, Santa Ana is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to California, Santa Ana has a crime rate that is higher than 50% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.

However, NeighborhoodScout analyzed all cities and towns in America with a similar population size to Santa Ana, and we found that the crime rate in Santa Ana is one of the lowest in the nation for its size. This means Santa Ana is one of the safest places in America in which to live for its size, a very important finding.

The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 18,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined.

Now let us turn to take a look at how Santa Ana does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Santa Ana.

From our analysis, we discovered that violent crime in Santa Ana occurs at a rate higher than in most communities of all population sizes in America. The chance that a person will become a victim of a violent crime in Santa Ana; such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder; is 1 in 256. This equates to a rate of 4 per one thousand inhabitants.

Moreover, the rate of property crime in Santa Ana; burglary, larceny ($50 or more), grand theft auto, and arson; is 17 per 1,000 residents. This is about average for all cities and towns in America of all population sizes.

Importantly, we found that Santa Ana has one of the highest rates of motor vehicle theft in the nation according to our analysis of FBI crime data. This is compared to communities of all sizes, from the smallest to the largest. In fact, your chance of getting your car stolen if you live in Santa Ana is one in 256.

I heard a rumor that Yawon is moving to an all Somali area of Minneapolis because it is the most peaceful place on earth.

Funny, I've ran into Yawon after a couple terrorist bombings and he was on the phone telling the FBI that they should be focusing on the Daughters of the American Revolution. I totally agree.

The LP

The major parties stand for no ideology. Each is an amalgamation of pragmatic, concrete-bound positions, driven by no discernible theme.

That's not exactly true.  The Democratic party is driven by an idelogy: big government and globalism.

The Libertarian Party

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Binswanger and Schwartz recently published this bit of fatuous depraved garbage: http://www.hbletter.com/why-no...

They start with:

"Evaluating a candidate of the Libertarian Party (LP) is very different from evaluating a candidate of the Republican or Democratic Party. The major parties stand for no ideology. Each is an amalgamation of pragmatic, concrete-bound positions, driven by no discernible theme."

Three sentences -- three lies! The essay goes downhill from there. Sad

The demogwaphic makeup of Yawon's <strike>armed fortress</strike> gated community is like what the USA was before the Immigration Act of 1964, just fewer blacks.

"The racial makeup of Coto de Caza was 13,094 (88.1%) White (82.2% Non-Hispanic White),[7] 132 (0.9%) African American, 26 (0.2%) Native American, 878 (5.9%) Asian, 20 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 174 (1.2%) from other races, and 542 (3.6%) from two or more races. I think Rand was focused on

Doug Bandler The Second's picture

I think Rand was focused on killing the Kantian view of innate "categories" when arguing in favor for Locke's "blank slate."

Very good point. I just realized this myself while listening to Michael Malice criticize Rand (unfairly IMO) for her blank slate views. But his criticism was overly harsh and failed to place her in context. Rand wanted to kill Kant's skepticism which he grounded in some proto-biologic determinism. Now there very well may be "mental modules" or neuro-mechanisms that make human reason possible (I would be shocked if there wasn't), but that doesn't imply want Kant thought it did; ie that we have no contact with reality "as it really is". So, on one hand its important to be fair to Rand but on the other hand its also important to see that Rand's view of human nature was not biologically sophisticated and needs to be updated. This has implications for culture and immigration. Objectivists don't realize what goes into creating and *sustaining* a culture, especially a culture of property rights based liberty. If they did, they would be screaming their heads off to stop 3rd world immigration.

You're right about one thing, the Randroids are comfortable sitting in a room of Progressive Obama supporters.

Diana Hsieh once blogged on how she respected Leftist academics more than "Christian moms". This was about 5 years ago when I was going through my paradigm shift. It was at that moment when I read her blog post that I said to myself "people like this will never fight the Left, they will join them". And I am sure that many Objectivists will advocate voting for Hillary. Brook already has said that he doesn't think "the world will end" if Hillary is President. With friends (or "advocates of liberty") like these who needs enemies?

Free Will and the Blank Slate

Grant Jones's picture

Doug, that's an interesting thought. I have to do some thinking on the connections between psycho-epistemology and the Objectivist view on free-will/the blank slate. I think Rand was focused on killing the Kantian view of innate "categories" when arguing in favor for Locke's "blank slate." Although, I believe she said elsewhere that free will doesn't mean non-identity.

You're right about one thing, the Randroids are comfortable sitting in a room of Progressive Obama supporters. Such are their people. What the Randroids can't abide are real Americans who cling to their religion and guns.

Wasted Opportunities

Doug Bandler The Second's picture

Grant, I agree with you entirely. I find myself reading O'ist commentary and cringing at what they are saying in Rand's name. And you are especially correct when you say that O'ists are only good for the areas where Rand laid out the material; ie "cookie cutter" stuff. But when they actually have to apply the epistemology they either end up with conclusions that overlap with Progressives or Neo-Cons; open immigration and aggressive warfare in the ME (and at the same time no less). There is no originality in anything coming from mainstream O'ists. There is some interesting work done in speciality fields in philosophy but those same philosophers will turn around on a dime and call Trump a "fascist".

I also like the idea that the psycho-epistemolgy of OrgOists is similar to Progressives. I've been thinking now for a few years that there is a latent egalitarianism in Rand's ideas which sadly are the product of her "tabula rasa" view of human nature. I think that more than anything else has caused the trajectory of the O'ist movement to go down the path it went; ie a personality cult. But I can forgive Rand for her errors. First because of the time in which she wrote (no Steven Pinker and the like to disseminate socio-biological ideas). And second because despite her flaws she offered a good set of ideas on which to build. She cut through a lot of crap in European thought. If Objectivists weren't stuck in the "purity" phase they could have influenced the liberty movement.

But they haven't. And now the Right is turning towards various forms of nationalism. And I am partly sympathetic with these movements because the ways which liberty has been offered *do* seem suicidal. Either Rothbardian anarchism which despite the brilliance of the Austrian economists degenerates to Left-libertarian hippy-ness (witness any libertarian convention). Or Randroidism which is so anti-social that its off-putting to pretty much all socially normal, well-adjusted people.

Objectivism is drowning in rationalism and I don't think the movement is going to have a future as it currently exists. Perhaps there will be a "neo-Randian" revival somewhere down the road, but it will probably be post-collapse. Jesus, that's a downer...

And Yet Again

Grant Jones's picture

True enough, Doug. But, the no-borders traitors (including Obleftivists) powers of evasion are without limit.

The better ones still treat "individual rights" as an out-of-context absolute, except for Israel. This issue demonstrates that they don't understand Objectivism. They treat Objectivist principles as bumper sticker slogans. They don't, or can't, understand Rand's methodology of arriving at those principles. Inductive reasoning is alien to these people. It's obvious when they discuss many political, economic or other "practical" issue. They just plug a principle "individual rights" (knob A) into an issue (slot B) to arrive at the desired result. By doing so they evade or ignore a host of relevant facts and other related principles, such as self-preservation and the nature and necessity of the nation-state. Anything other than their gross oversimplifications and context dropping are "complexity worship" and "pragmatism." Another issue is their religious devotion to "free trade" agreements. They're better on most domestic issues only because Rand laid a more firmer groundwork on those areas. Although, many of them have overly simplistic views on the criminal justice system and illegal drugs. Needless to say their views on culture, and its relationship to politics, are ignorant and betrays their rationalistic detachment from reality.

In other words, most people who call themselves Objectivists still possess a mystical psycho-epistemology. They've read IOE. But, their sub-conscious hasn't. Their sub-conscious integrations (if we can call it that) are still hard wired based on their previous religious or leftist programming. Yaron Bwook and Craig Piddle are classic examples of this. They have much company, including sadly Leonard Peikoff to a more limited extent. "Erase the border because the white man has a burden to civilize the savage." "Vote Democrat because Christian theocrats are living rent free in my head." In their formal lectures and writing they're generally better than this. But in most practical applications of their abstract ideas to reality, they betray a psycho-epistemology that is at odds with their ideas. Their flawed psycho-epistemology may also explain their affinity for cultural Marxism and their complete lack of concern over it.

P.S. Herr Doktor Professor Michael Hurd's disgusting response to the Oregon standoff is another case in point. He failed a basic sense-of-life test. I have to wonder how his un-American sense-of-life relates to a mystical psycho-epistemology.

Also Budapest

Doug Bandler The Second's picture

There was also a bombing in Budapest. But they have not reported on whether that was Muslim yet? Plus you have that 20 year old kid in Seattle who just went to a mall and open fired on 5 people killing 4 women (hmmm, I wonder if he was a beta as well as being a Muslim).

Now, would all this be happening if there were NO Muslims living in Western nations? If the answer is no, then what is keeping us from that set of circumstances; ie a Muslim free West? If that answer is "individual rights" then why on Earth would any nation swear allegiance to individual rights? It would be synonymous with a suicide pact.

So is the error with the concept of rights itself or with the way that concept is understood; especially by Objectivists?

Rock 'n' Roll

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Here's an interesting question for anyone who cares to take it up: However much Rand commands us all to morally "Judge, and prepare to be judged," is it really the case that the pro-rock 'n' roll people were treated with proper respect and courtesy here: http://www.solopassion.com/nod...? Is this how an issue is best discussed and knowledge best advanced?

Deeply Wrong -- But Natural and Expected

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Lindsay -- I'm the most radical intellectual on the planet. So naturally I've been abused, censored, and excommunicated everywhere in Objectivist circles. And I always will be. Or at least as long as Objectivist cultism exists -- which will certainly be well beyond my lifetime. On Solo Passion, Rebirth of Reason, Objectivist Living, etc., admittedly, the final excommunication hasn't yet taken place. But that's probably because over many years I've somewhat learned what I'm free to discuss, and what I'm not.

But as for all the illiberal and illegitimate persiflage and flak I still get, I never really notice it. I irresistibly lose interest in the person and discussion almost instantly. I essentially only care about learning -- acquiring more knowledge than I currently possess. This seems to enhance personal achievement, greatness, and happiness -- which is what I want.

Kyrel

Lindsay Perigo's picture

My question was:

When have you ever been censored, abused or excommunicated here?

You haven't answered it.

You've equated my attitude towards dissent with that of Peikoff, Warts, Binswanker, Kelley and Branden. That's a monstrous injustice.

If you're going to say my placing of Doug Bandler (not his real name) under moderation (not a ban or a block) for launching a vicious and factually wholly inaccurate attack, under his pseudonym, against Amy Peikoff is an instance of Peikovianism, I'd remind you of what you just said about a "gentleman's ethos."

"Doug" is still at perfect liberty to post. That's true even if you are he.

Every instinct in my body cries out against letting people post anonymously or pseudonymously. SOLO is all about "life on the level." But I recognise that to be "on the level" in these times is to risk death. So I make allowances. I'd hope that by never mincing words myself, under my own name, I might eventually inspire the timorous to speak up under theirs.

The world is perishing from an orgy of cowardice.

The Natural Intellectual Brotherhood of Man

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Under the massive influence of Ayn Rand, and her ultimately disastrous dictum of "Judge, and prepare to be judged," the current Objectivist Community's entire approach to discussion and debate is wrong. A passionate, ambitious, relentless search for the truth, in order to achieve personal happiness and greatness, is strongly absent. In its place are ad hominem arguments and personal insults for brave, venturesome truth-seekers who accidently and innocently end up being partial dissidents. When you meet up with someone who disputes your philosophical theories the proper response is curiosity and social benevolence based on your shared pursuit of the truth and eudaimonia. You're colleagues and cooperative intellectual coworkers first; you're philosophical and personal enemies very much second. This basic human decency and gentleman's ethos is little understood or practiced inside the current Objectivist community.

The Brandens

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Neil -- You write:

"At least years later [Nathaniel Branden] apologized for all the lives he hurt. Rand never did.

Barbara on the other hand was never evil. She wrote a biography of Rand which if anything went too easy on Rand."

Barbara was evil and a Randroid cultist for a long time. Just not as bad as Nathaniel. You're right, however, that both did the right thing eventually, and apologized for their religiosity, and all the unspeakable damage it did.

Barbara was intellectually weak -- but morally strong. She had a noticeably superior level of honesty, both in her version of Rand's biography, and in the story she told in 1997 in Washington, DC, at the 50th anniversary celebration of Atlas Shrugged. Surprisingly, in both cases, she blew Nathaniel away.

What?

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Lindsay -- You write:

"Babs and Nathan were evil to the core."

This is a stunning claim. Why don't you write a detailed essay explaining how this is so? If true, this is something the world needs to know. It isn't enough merely to make repeated claims: the world needs to see facts and evidence to this effect, and needs to be able to follow your chain of logic and analysis. I would relish a solid and substantial essay along these lines.

Not So

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Lindsay -- You write:

"I think there's every chance, though I do also think that pressure will go on her from the ARISIS mafia not to do it. Let's see what happens. As I've said to you before, this is reminiscent of when the Brandens successfully put pressure on TAS to disinvite me as a speaker, a matter about which you've always had remarkably little to say."

There's never been a serious or substantial public discussion or debate between a real Objectivist and a phony Randroid pretender in the entire history of man. What makes you think it'll happen now? When it comes to free and open intellectual exchanges, the cultist zombie freaks wilt like snowflakes in the desert. And Amy seems very weak. Maybe Yaron Brook will briefly, gingerly, reluctantly chat with you in public a decade or two down the line.

Amy is not an airhead. We're about to find out if she' a Randroid. Let's allow the process to continue, without Brandroid preconceptions.

Babs and Nathan were evil to the core. Amazing that Ayn fell for them. But let's see where this new scenario might lead. That means Brandroids must step back and allow the process they purport to believe in, free and open dialogue, play out.

Branden was a disgusting creature. But even if I were wrong about that, what happened to free and open dialogue? I was invited to do two presentations: one on the state of OrgOism, the other on the objective superiority of Romantic Music. Both would have had overflow crowds and been testament to TAS's willingness to stage provocative, challenging events featuring speakers who disagreed with them on some matters. Unfortunately there was/is no such willingness. I had already been their #1 rated speaker at previous events where they handed out those evaluation form thingies, so it was their loss. Look at them now. If you can. They're invisible. Anyone spotted David Kelley in the last ten years? And where has Hudgins gone? Too busy coo-ing to his "sweet Muslim nanny"?

And if you think my praise of PARC was good reason to disinvite me from TAS, why do you fault Amy for not returning here to debate you?!

Kyrel can speak for himself, but if I recall correctly this was during the PARC wars, when you were praising a book that compared Nathaniel Branden to men who rape eldery women and attacked the Brandens for throwing a surpise party for Rand.  I can't blame the Brandens for putting pressure on TAS to disinvite you as a speaker.

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Neil -- Who are you talking to? Amy Peikoff's gone. Maybe she'll say another quick, icy "hello" in 2025 (maybe). But no Randroid poser has ever had a sustained or serious conversation or debate with an actual Objectivist in the entire history of man. Not one. It's exceedingly unlikely Peikoff will be the first. The closest we came was about 7 years ago when James Valliant and his clone visited Solo Passion, and mindlessly and pointlessly discussed (sic) their Randroid book to infinity (but never rationally or honestly, and never anything else). Also when Diana Hsieah ultra-briefly chatted about something (almost certainly obliquely and inanely, and never answering anyone's points) about the same time.

But otherwise: 55 years of nothing from the religious scamsters. And pray note: There's no chance in hell that interview between Lindsay and Peikoff will ever come off. As I've stated many times before (including on the first day the zombie visited): free and open discussion is death to the pseudo-Objectivist cyborgs. They adamantly reject it with anyone decently conversant with Rand's thought. Their psychology and spirit can't bear it. They're intellectual and moral failures, and they need to maintain unawareness of this reality at all cost. To actually dare to discuss relevant or important Objectivist issues like real people in some sort of free and open forum ultimately means the destruction of their black and empty souls.

ARISIS

They look like another gang

Andrew Atkin's picture

They look like a gang to me. Another brand of mafia.

I ponder if gangs, as a social phenomena, could be considered the basic threat to civilization. It seems to be tricky trying to run a healthy civilization with a tribal animal, at times.

Gerald Celente always went on about America being controlled by the "White shoe boys", which he considered to be just another criminal gang, though with the pretense of respectability and civility...whereby the only people who matter to them are their in-group, with the rest of us just being a resource to meet their ends.

Maybe Celente's right? And maybe a civilisation does indeed require eternal vigilance to defend, by those whose mentalities can rise above the mob?
