I rented a classic 1935 flick with Spencer Tracy called “Fury.” It’s Fritz Lang’s first American movie. It’s about an innocent man jailed and nearly lynched by a small town mob. The movie's theme deals with justice...and justice denied. It actually has a plot!

Yes. The kind of movie to which you refer (and fortunately, not all modern movies fall into that category, although most do) is 'entertainment' in exactly the same way that drinking oneself into a stupor is 'entertainment'.
