The Counter-Protest ClubSubmitted by Dan Edge on Wed, 2006-08-09 13:21.
I am currently compiling information about pro-Israel and pro-Islamofacist protests in the NYC area. I would like to organize a group to attend some of these functions and rally support for war against Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. Anyone interested please respond to this post or email me through SOLO. Thanks, Dan Edge

None of them are close enough for me to go, but I would encourage anyone to go there and hang out for a few hours to protest, hand out pamphlets, and/or talk to the media (who I'm sure will be out in force for the ex-President's book debut).
Thanks again to www.standwithus.com for providing the information.

My Letter
Greetings,
I write to you with deep concern about the Los Angeles Human Relations Commission’s decision to honor Dr Maher Hathout with the John Allen Buggs Award for Human Relations. Dr Hathout is on record as a propagandist for the Islamic Totalitarian ideology. He allies himself with nations that harbor terrorists, against nations that value freedom and individual liberty (like the United States and Israel). A sample of his belligerent propaganda can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch? v=n6_LwJ4Dd_o, where he describes the state of Israel as “racist apartheid butchers.”
Your decision to Dr Hathout with an “Award for Human Relations” is a shocking absurdity, one which sanctions the fallacious view that Israeli actions of self-defense are morally equivalent to terrorist attacks on innocent civilians.
If it’s not too late, I implore you to reconsider.
Thanks,
--Dan Edge
Los Angeles Honors Islamic Propogandist
From StandWithUs.com -
StandWithUs members were shocked to learn that Dr. Maher Hathout of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) - is going to receive the "John Allen Buggs Award" for Human Relations from the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations. The Human Relations Awards Luncheon is being held on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. We find Dr. Hathout to be an extremist anti-Israel, inflammatory speaker. Please listen to his speech on You Tube here:

Troll Alert
"Just asking but will they be issuing "brown-shirts and arm-bands?"
Equating the counter protesters with Nazi's. Here we go. Objectivist fascists? Been there, done that, got a clue.
Protest warriors !!
Just asking but will they be issuing "brown-shirts and arm-bands"?
Have you given the cause of the current "situation" any thought, at all?
"We should prepare to go over to the offensive. Our aim is to smash Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, and Syria. The weak point is Lebanon, for the Moslem regime is artificial and easy for us to undermine. We shall establish a Christian state there, and then we will smash the Arab Legion, eliminate Trans-Jordan; Syria will fall to us. We then bomb and move on and take Port Said, Alexandria and Sinai." David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.
Nothing seem to have changed in the "thinking"

Re: Still going
Well, for those who can make it, there is a demonstration against the cease-fire in Lebanon every Thursday at 7:30 in Tel-Aviv, Israel. There were about 200 people on August 17. The next one is on August 24. The organizers are not affiliated politically.
For information, e-mail: hafganal@gmail.com
For those who can't make it to Israel, check up http://www.standwithus.com/

Personally, protests or rallies really get me fired up. They are very motivational. I might even say it gives intellectual activism (like letter writing) a certain conreteness. It's one thing to write a letter and mail it off. It's another to be out there on the streets holding signs etc.

I think Dan and Mike and Peter make excellent points above. And thus I would rethink (and reword) my previous point: "The reason I stress writing rather than carrying placards and chanting is that you can't win without knocking down the dozens of arguments " to stress that what I was suggesting about writing was -indispensable-, not that it was the -only- way to take action.
> If you're lucky, you'll get a sentence or two.
A sentence or two on the local news can have a great impact. It at least serves as a rallying point and avoids letting the leftists and appeaseniks drown us out.

Damn. This is what I get for not reading SOLO every day. I should be horsewhipped (please don't make the obvious comment).
Still Going
Hello All,
Please don't forget about the Coutnter-Protest Club. Just because Israel surrendered doesn't mean we shouldn't speak out in favor of them. I'm waiting to hear back from Protest Warriors, who I may join. If that works out, I'll just post notices of their events on SOLO.
Thanks,

Cartoon protest
It's good to see Sandi posting again. I went on on the "March for Free Expression" in Trafalgar Square. Tony Blair's "thought police" photographed each protestor!
I know how you feel Joe.
I know how you feel Joe. During the cartoon fiasco, I felt compelled to attend an Islamic protest rally in Auckland, in the hopes that I could tag along with an opposing group of protesters.
But alas it appeared to be just moi, who pulled faces and directed a few expletives to those who marched close by. However all was not lost, I was fortuntate enough to be standing close to a few observers whose cutting remarks topped my expletives most eloquently.
Good on you Dan.
I hope I can find some people with as much conviction as you, here in NZ.
Thank you for the website - it was very interesting to visit.
I feel a tee shirt coming on.
There was a pro-peace/Anti
There was a pro-peace/Anti Israel protest at Philadelphia's city hall today, and found myself wishing for the counter-protest club to materialize! Sadly, it was just me making faces.
Fantastic Dan!
Keep going!!

Protest Warrior
A buddy of mine referred me to a group on the internet called Protest Warrior (www.protestwarrior.com). Apparantly, one of the founders is an Objectivist. They've already put together some pretty sizable counter-protests in the NYC area. I'm looking into them now. If it looks like they're already doing what I'm planning, then I'll just join them and post updates about upcoming events on SOLO.

Protest Info
Thanks Michelle. It would be great if everyone could post information about upcoming protests on this thread. I'll do the same.

Wrong A.N.S.W.E.R. Counter-Rally
For those who live in the Bay area: the San Francisco Voice For Israel is organizing a counter-demonstration on August 12, 2006 -"Wrong A.N.S.W.E.R. Counter-Rally." The details are at http://www.sfvoiceforisrael.org/
Go Dan
"The best way to rally support for the war on terrorism and for hunting down and exterminatiing the Hezbollah - Al Qaeda -Iranian terrorists and secret agent scum and their financiers is by WRITING..."
And the best way to ensure that your WRITING is published, or any other wrting in support of your point of view is published, is to make yoru viewpoint KNOWN to the media.
And one good way to do that is precisely what Dan is suggesting.
Go Dan.
"I think the time and effort
"I think the time and effort that goes into such demonstrations are better spent developing and refining one's written arguments."
While I agree that the most effective way to get things done (in terms of changing minds and such), I think there is a value to protests or rallies out side of any influence it might have. Personally, protests or rallies really get me fired up. They are very motivational. I might even say it gives intellectual activism (like letter writing) a certain conreteness. It's one thing to write a letter and mail it off. It's another to be out there on the streets holding signs etc.
Dan
Sure, but I'm not sure that gets your message out. If you're lucky, you'll get a sentence or two. I don't mean to be discouraging. Rather, I wanted to stress that, in my opinion, one well-written letter to the editor (to say nothing of an op-ed) will do as much, if not more, than a demonstration. Of course, I can't prove that, and I would be pleased to be proved wrong. Best wishes.
Media Attention
Counter Protesters get a lot of media attention. Is it not just as beneficial to have one's message sent out over the evening television news as on the editorial page?
--Dan Edge
The best way to rally
The best way to rally support for the war on terrorism and for hunting down and exterminatiing the Hezbollah - Al Qaeda -Iranian terrorists and secret agent scum and their financiers is by WRITING, whether it be a web post, a letter to the editor, or rebuttals of all the fallacies the NYT comes out with every day.
I agree with this completely. While I sympathize with the desire to "get out there and do something," I think the time and effort that goes into such demonstrations are better spent developing and refining one's written arguments. Of course, for those who would rather protest or rally for causes with which I agree, I wish them the best.
Anti-Israel Protest 8/12 in DC
There will be an anti-Israel protest on 8/12, beginning at 12 noon 12:00 noon in Lafayette Park, in front of the White House.
http://www.bridgestv.com/show_news.asp?newsid=278
I won't be able to go, but there may be others who are. If anyone living in the area is interested in going to this protest, let me know, and I'll try to network some people together.
Thanks,

Islamo-Fascist Filth Foiled
I see the Brits have foiled a plot to blow up about 20 planes in mid-air between London & the U.S. Wonder what excuse Saddam's/Osama's cock-suckers will come up with for these proposed atrocities? No doubt it's all America's fault.
Get those counter-protests rollin' Dan!
The reason I stress writing
The reason I stress writing rather than carrying placards and chanting is that you can't win without knocking down the dozens of arguments that seem plausible until you study them and keep up with the actual facts...arguments such as we can't win, it's too late to stop Iran from getting nukes, we will breed more terrorists, etc.
Each of those arguments is false. But unless you follow the details...and help knock them down...no point in marching.
I live in Silicon Valley. I
I live in Silicon Valley. I would join a rally in the Bay Area. I've published a couple pieces on this subject.
The most important thing is to get across to the American people the -dishonesty- of the mainstream media coverage of Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel.
Great Mike
I'll try to get in touch with the NYU Objectivist Club and Hero's Hike group in the next few days to see if they'd be interested. I posted a notice at ObjectivismOnline.net. I encourage everyone to post notices at other Objectivist forums.

Dan, Sounds like a great
Dan,
Sounds like a great idea. I'm in as a protester. I think I can get two more people to join in, maybe more.
Needed
Just for starters:
1) Volunteer(s) to investigate and join pro-Islamofacist websites, to get information about where rallies are being held.
2) Volunteers to attend pro-Islamic rallies to counter protest. Be aware, this could be dangerous.
3) Volunteers with public speaking ability to speak to the press at rallies. (We should notify the press that we're going to be there, without alerting the Islamofacists.)
4) Volunteers to try to recruit more protesters.
Standwithus.com
This group organizes rallies in support of Israel around the US. There is a division in LA and one in NYC. They also gather information about where and when opposition rallies (pro-Lebanon) are being held, and disseminate information for counter-protesting. You can check out the Signs they use at protests here: www.standwithus.com/signs.asp. Their message is softer than ours, but we could develop a partnership for purposes of information exchange.
--Dan Edge
Great idea, Dan.
I might try to do the same sort of thing here. We have a big group of rabble-rousers that I know would love to do something like that. I wonder if there are ever any protests like that in Atlanta we could attend?
Kelly
Excellent
Dan, I applaud your efforts on this! I hope you can get a good group of people together. I'd join you, but am currently sweltering in the New Orleans heat and am too enamored with the coolness of my airconditioner to venture outside.
Rock on, man!
Audacious Edge!
Dan—terrific. Bravo! Good luck! And I think you should use that KASS photo of yourself-with-placard on the other thread as your masthead!!
