Making Book on the All Blacks!Submitted by Ross Elliot on Thu, 2006-08-17 07:31.
New Zealand All Blacks versus Australian Wallabies, Sat, Aug 19, 5:30pm, Eden Park, Auckland, for the Bledisloe Cup. Rules: The person who picks the winning team and margin or the closest to the margin, wins. A winning team and margin can be chosen by only one person. So, as in my case, no one else can have All Blacks by 14. In the event of split winners (equal margins high & low), the person picking closest to the total combined points will win. Don't forget to post your total combined points as well as your winning margin, for tie breaking purposes Scores must be placed by game start time (5:30pm NZT, Aug 19). Times as per the SOLOP reply header. Prize: The winner will receive a bottle of wine (or a negotiated equivalent) not less than $15 in value from each of the losers. If any of our American or European friends want a piece of the action, feel free. A Google search will reveal that the All Blacks are favorites, although not greatly so. Get in early. Go Black!! Softcocks (including Lindsay) need not apply

About four more.
"Good, tough game. But we should have won by more."
Yep, about four points more. About ten minutes to go my prediction was right on the money. Bugger.
But wasn't that a tremendous second half!

Congrats, Phil!

I'll be in touch.
Roo stew
That'll hold the boys in good stead with the far more crucial event next year.
Congrats Phil, but Ross was robbed. No way their No. 6 Neanderthal had control of the ball on our try line... 34 to 27 (-7) = 14 points diff. How do we get the spoils to Phil?
Good luck to the quaffers

Oi!
I have Australia by 4, remember? For precisely that point.
You know, Perigo might be on
You know, Perigo might be on to something here. We're all besotted with the Blacks, while he does a Benedict Arnold and backs the enemy.
We crowd the board while he sits alone and only has to see a Wallaby win.
Cunning stunt.
Fraser, since I invited the
Fraser, since I invited the world, we will have to ship worldwide
Same deal for you.
Do you think you can buy a NZ$15 wine for five pounds or euros over there? You are in Blighty, right?
Jeez, some lucky bugger is going to have a nice little quaff
Onya, Tim! Actually, you've
Onya, Tim!
Actually, you've pissed me off. I thought 14 would be the absolute max we could win by. The game is really on now.
I need you to post your total combined score for both teams in case of a split decision.
Nothing happened. They just
Nothing happened. They just got me on a bad hair day...

How do we pay up (or collect) if we're based in the mother country?
And is it NZ$?
If you convince me of a method, I'll back Australia by 4, combined points total 28. And don't tell Sarah - I'll get in trouble for stealing money from the mouth of our foetus.
Are we seeing you this evening for Mr Visser's Dutch farewell, Mein Schturminator?
OK
All Blacks by 16.
God Save Our Gracious Queen
I put 15 Guineas on England. No matter who wins, they are both still owned by the Empire, aren't they?
(Perversely, I'm hoping the Wallabies might win, to keep some interest in the series, and to justify me getting up at ridiculously early weekend hours to watch the matches)
C'mon people. Hustle up!
C'mon people. Hustle up!
The board is wide open (I have no idea what that means) and all bets are welcome.
With Lindsay betting on the Aussies, the odds are in your favor
Nah. The English are the
Nah. The English are the ugliest team. Pasty-faced with all the grace of a suet pudding.
The Irish are a close second.
The Scots—Elliot is Scots—are quite handsome...
Oh yes.
Couldn't agree more about Dan Carter. Phawww. Those Aussies have to be the ugliest team I've ever seen - and I mean before they open their mouths. [shudder]
Brave?
Effing stupid more like it. Still, those Aussies can certainly KASS when they're riled. And our boys have been a bit KASSless lately, for all their string of wins. Too much "moving forward" MBA-speak by Henry. He'll turn them all into soft-cocks.
Elliot shoots! He
Elliot shoots! He scores!
Welcome to the party, Lindsay. My, my, that's a brave bet
Oh fuck it, then!
I'll back the Aussies just for the hell of it. By seven. They might just be angry & hungry enough to do it this time. Besides, George Gregan's *so* cute. Small but perfectly formed.
Linz
Though not as cute as Dan Carter (be still, my delirious heart).
Quick draw McCaw
All Blacks 28 / Wallabies 16 = AB's by 12
Sweet sweep, Ross.
Ow, it's getting
Ow, it's getting crowded!
ABs by 7, 11 & 14.
It's a damned shame we can't get Perigo in on this one. Potentially three very nice bottles of Shiraz might go his way. Oh, well, you can lead a man to wine, but you can't make him drink

Anyone else? C'mon!
I can taste my big hearty Ozzy Shiraz now...
I would not underestimate the Wallabies. They will be hungry this time and our line-out needs lots of work...
