All around beauty and tennis badass, Maria Sharapova just won the U.S. Open. Her happiness is intoxicating. And what a game. Man! Two straight sets. I have to say that this was the funnest U.S. Open that I have ever watched. Cheers, Maria!

It was a terrific final
Two of my favorite women players. I was rooting for Henin-Hardenne but then she's had her day several times, it was nice to see Maria add a second Grand Slam to her trophy case beside that Wimbledon. BTW, Henin-Hardenne's buggy-whip one-handed backhand has to be the prettiest shot in the women's game.

Victory Dance
Her victory dance was delightful. Pure, unadulterated joy in pride and triumph.

I love the way she plays with earrings and a tennis outfit that looks like an Audrey Hepburn evening gown.
I missed her Canon One-Shot commercials but the "I'm so pretty" commercial (which Marnee is alluding to) was at least as good, if not better.
Craig, aren't you the one who can find these things on the Internet in the blink of an eye?
On the subject of commercials, I thought some of the Andy Roddick commercials were very funny, especially the Lexus commercials with those weird guys sitting next to him.
Btw, put me down for Federer in straight sets. I don't know who can challenge Federer these days but it's certainly not Roddick (even with Jimmy Connors coaching him).
Btw, btw, some of the US Open build-up commercials were outstanding. My favorite was the "There's no 'I' in team but there is in tennis."
Another funny bit was when they panned on Maria between sets showing her drinking from 3 different bottles, speculating that she had 3 different beverage endorsements. Whatever she was raking in before in endorsements and commercials you can probably double or triple it now.
I admit, its easier to watch
I admit, its easier to watch any sport when the players are that beautiful. From Agassi to Sharapova, I think this was also the most physically beautiful group of players I have ever seen. Yum! It was a great U.S. Open.
