How to insert images into a reply...

It's a simple two step process.

First, get the location of the image.

In Firefox, right click on the image and choose: copy image location.

or

In Explorer, right click on the image and choose: properties. A box will appear. Highlight, by dragging your pointer, the Address (URL) line. Right click and choose: copy.

or

In Safari, right click on the image and choose Copy Image Address.

You now have the location of the image in your clipboard.

In the body of your reply, and at the position you would like the image to appear, type the following html code:

<img src="

Then paste the image location from your clipboard. Easiest way is to press: ctrl + v

Using the SOLO logo as an example, you would now have this:

<img src="http://www.solopassion.com/files/site/solo_header_logo.gif

To complete the code all you need do is add:

">

...to the end, resulting in this:

<img src="http://www.solopassion.com/files/site/solo_header_logo.gif">

Then use Preview to check you work.

If the image doesn't appear as expected check that you have a) copied the image location in full, and b) that your code agrees exactly with the example above.

Webmaster William is onto it. I'm having the same problem. One of my own pieces is delayed on account of the image issue. I hope we'll get this sorted tomorrow.

I like Puush:

Elliot Temple's picture

I like Puush: https://puush.me

their app lets you take a screenshot and have it automatically uploaded and the URL is put on your clipboard to paste.

or use imgur: https://imgur.com

PS it'd be great if CSS was added to the site to set the max-width of an image to 100%. i had to manually resize some images to be smaller so they would fit here. (it'd also be nice to have a background color and/or left border on block quotes)

Posting photos on SOLO from my computer: Problem

Ed Hudgins's picture

I've been posting my photos on SOLO thru Photobucket; it converts my personal jpgs from my computer into URLs that I could use in HTML.

But Photobucket changed format, demanding $300/yr to use. So "No" to that.

I have photos on Google photo but the URLs don't work with < img src = " " > (spaces included because otherwise the text doesn't appear.)

For example:
https://photos.google.com/phot...
When I paste into a SOLO post the photo doesn't show up in the preview.

I also tried copying a URL from photos I have in my Facebook albums. Also no go.

Again, I'm trying to insert jgps from my computer.

Suggestions?

Thanks
Ed Hudgins

You post it on a thread...

...and then embrd the link to it in a discussion.

Thanks

Thanks, Marcus. That's what I thought. But most times people want to upload a picture from their computer in the middle of a discussion.

Yes you can...

Can I upload images from my computer to SoloPassion?

#$!@$%!*#! Computers

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Thanks, Marcus! I clicked on "embed" instead of "share," evidently. My thanks to Rick for his previous patient help too. Smiling

The easiest way Kyrel is...

Marcus's picture

...underneath the youtube videos there is a button that says "share".

When you press it you are given a youtube URL that you can use here and it never has the word embed in it.

non youtube videos

Doug Bandler's picture

OK. But this site doesn't let you embed videos that aren't youtube, or at least I haven't figured out how yet.

Embed

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Evidently the key to these infuriating darn things is to avoid embedding any video which has the word "embed" inside its URL. Also: most computer geeks need to be shot because they have NO notion of the concept of simplicity.

Mystery.

Mystery.

Nope

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

Thanks for the help, Rick! But no, it doesn't work for me. I tried using both the Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, but no luck. Everything between the sideways "U" brackets disappears, but no video shows up. Others Solo Passionists can embed videos evidently, and I've done it before myself, but no longer. Frustrating!

Works for me. Just put the link in place of "URL".

I reckon you passed over reading that dozens of times! Wink

How Do You Embed a Video Here?

Kyrel Zantonavitch's picture

No idea how to place or "embed" a video on Solo Passion. Sad Seems like one of the (invisible) texts below should work!

Another way to add images

You can also add images by clicking the "add other content" link on the right nav, and clicking the selection to add an image. Here is a shortcut straight to the page. Keep in mind copyrights if you do upload an image to our server! You can then follow the steps above to add that pesky image tag to your post. Remember, in order to put an img tag in you have to disable rich-text (there is a link right under the input textbox).

A too-wide picture, just like a too-wide text token (e.g. a long URL) can make the whole page too wide to be displayed without a horizontal scrollbar. Horizontal scrollbars are a pain. The fix is to insert width=96% in the tag when the width in pixels is too big to fit (and remove the height parameter when you need to do this.) I would be happy to write the code for a filter that would do this automatically if asked.

You'll absolutely love this

Duncan Bayne's picture

You'll absolutely love this email I received from a vendor of a component we are using to convert between RTF and HTML:

The extra </b> are fine, the generated HTML will look fine in any browser.

This was in reply to an email from me, in which I enquired why one bold tag was closed three times, and once in entirely the wrong place:

<BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF">
<b>
    <font FACE="Arial" SIZE="2" >
        Test.<br>
        </b>
        <br>
        <br>
    </font>
    </b>
    </b>
</body>

I do believe that the above would actually make the W3C validators cry.

Laure, if I've learned one thing in this business it's that you can't know everything. I have gaps in my knowledge that yawn like chasms. But I'll fill in those chasms when I need to and not before.

I've also learned that no question is too stupid Smiling

We C++ programmers

Laure Chipman's picture

We C++ programmers refer to ourselves as "Software Engineers".  Software Engineer is to Programmer as Sanitation Engineer is to Garbage Man.  Wink

(I'm a little embarrassed to admit I'm a programmer, since I was confused by the "disable rich-text"...  I think embedding images IS "rich text".  If it had said "Don't escape special characters" I would've been good...)

That's better!

Very good point, Robert.

Maybe she's a programmer *groupie*? Mmm, yes, that idea appeals enormously...

Ross, don't be silly.  Real programmers don't look like that.
It's obviously some kind of trick.

Laure...

Ross Elliot's picture

Laure, I'm looking at the source code of your reply. You will understand that it has special characters in it to make html code appear. That is, the image *won't* appear with those special characters in it.

Copy the code directly off the screen and post it into a reply and preview it. You should be good to go.

[Edit: I see you got it sorted]

disable rich-text?

Hmm... "disable rich-text" first?  Bingo!

So, why does it work when you do it, and it never works when I do it?  <img> is in the list of "Allowed HTML tags" below, but whenever I use it, it just shows up as plain text:

Full interview here. My favourite question:

MO: Do you think that it would be a good idea to have a Women only class of racing, to encourage more women into the sport?

KP: In 1995, I rode in a class in Italy just for women and it didn't really work for me ... you learn to race by racing with fast riders, women or men. If the other riders are not fast, you don't learn.

I love that feeling of being up-skilled!

What do you mean?

Rick Pasotto's picture

What do you mean by "make the image smaller"? Since you have no control over the graphic itself (you're getting it from someone else's site) then the specific answer is: No.

However, you can control the size of what is displayed by including height and width specs in the img tag. (Note that this does not change the bandwidth required to d/l the image.)

For example:

<img src="http://stellargraffiti.com/toon2.jpg" height='50%' width='50%'>

will give:

Okey dokey, now that I'm

Fred Weiss's picture

Okey dokey, now that I'm feeling my oats, let's try an image.

If anyone ever tells you that no one can be certain of anything, say, "Oh yeah, you're not certain that a cow can't jump over the moon?"

Is this cool, or what?

Only trouble is this image is huge. Is there any way to make it smaller?
