Hypocrisy

It's funny - if you ignore the fact that it's not funny at all - how Lindsay bangs on about decency all the time when he's astonishingly indecent himself, how he calls people solipsists when he's so deeply trapped inside his own head without realizing it, how he accuses the ARI of being unreceptive to new ideas when he's pathologically stubborn himself and only interested in justifying his own personality (that's one of the big problems with Objectivism: there's only one right, therefore everything else has to be wrong, resulting in disaster), how he claims to be wise yet exhibits astounding psychology-naivety and narrow-mindedness and bigotry when he states, for instance, that anyone who doesn't belly-laugh shouldn't be trusted, how he immaturely begins glorifying alcohol consumption as soon as anyone dares to point out what it does to him ("You have a few wines at night?", Lindsay says to the caller. "GOOD ON YOU!" As if it's now this HUGE ideal.), how he idiotically takes to raising the OVERALL worth of people like Bush just because he feels so strongly about ONE position they hold, how he insults people when they mispronounce a single word while claiming to be someone who focuses on what REALLY matters in life, how he calls so much art evil or worthless even though he hasn't got the talent to produce any art of his own and even though many of the artists in question have such a vastly bigger sense of life than his frighteningly narrow conception of what that means, how he tries to give the impression on the radio
that he's benevolent and has been attacked by evil females even though he's one of the most disgusting and hurtful wankers out there, how he calls other people blowhards when he's the biggest one of all, how he refers to this site and the former one as being his home to deflect attention away from the far more important issue that is his behaviour (which is equivalent to saying "Don't tell me not to slap you in the face! This is my home!")

You, Lindsay, and anyone who continues to support you, have no IDEA what "reality" is, you silly little people, you solipsist-like hypocrites. I'm a libertarian, but I'm certainly not a Linzian. And most definitely not an Objectivist. In my opinion, anyone who remains an Objectivist after spending time in forums, only do so because they have a SUBJECTIVE, emotional need to, but trick themselves into believing that they stay with it because it's correct.

Ted, my love,

"The only thing your personal attacks against Linz are proving is your obsession with him."

Trust me, my love, I turn off the radio whenever he comes on in the morning, even though my other love, the one that isn't you or Linz, prefers having the radio on until she wakes up a bit later. My subconscious hears Linz, waking me up as if from a nightmare, whereupon I stumble over, one eye open, and fumble at the square rectangle button stuff switch things and press it the offness, and then go back to bed.

And I haven't read any material written by Linz for a while, because it pisses me off too much, and I hoped - knew - that he wouldn't respond to this thread. It would "validate" me, y'know. Hahahaha.

"What that might have to do with Rand & this site I don't know. I've had plenty of bark fights with people and will badmouth Peikoff to the hills, but I don't shit on any of their lawns or find that (as I am embarrassed to admit I am a metallica fan like yourself) "Hell Yeah!" makes a very cogent argument for anything. Let me echo some people I do and others I don't like and ask you to masturbate in private. And you won't hear from me again, I won't be that lonely."

What I've said in here recently has much to do with Rand and this site, my love. And every other Rand site, for that matter. Why I bothered was simply because I needed to exhale a couple of times while smoking a cigar.

I've tried deleting my account from here, now that I've had my fun. But Metallica has obviously dulled me too much. Where's the off switch?

Laure, I know it's a sin to

Aaron Williams's picture

Laure,

I know it's a sin to post after saying I never again would, but I always was a sinner, and always was bored.

One of my big reasons for posting in here a few weeks ago was so the casual passer-by might catch a glimpse of what I was saying and decide against joining this place. I realized that few folk who were already in here would twitch an eyelash while reading my stuff.

Here's a thought: can some people who love metallica, for instance, also love opera? Hell yeah. And can those people, while listening to opera, experience greater levels of joy than Linz does while listening to it? Hell yeah. Is this beyond Linz's comprehension and is the fact it's beyond his comprehension causing problems, given that he's in a position of influence? Hell yeah. Does he care either way? Hell no. Does he have a personality disorder? Hell yeah.

Apparently November 3rd is Festivus where he's from. First there is the Airing of Grievances and then The Feats of Strength...

Aaron, I'm serious when I

Duncan Bayne's picture

Aaron,

I'm serious when I ask - what value did you derive from that post? I mean, if you're not an Objectivist, think Linz is an ass, and have decided that we're all "silly little people" ... why bother posting at all?

Oh, Linz was really hurt by that,

Chris Cathcart's picture

"Aaron," if that's your name.

So a bug flew onto the scene momentarily and left. I doubt if Linz would even bother to comment on this non-event.

"Ah yes, this red has a wonderful interplay of oak and cherry notes. Beautiful bouquet. What a fine way to enjoy this marvelous evening, gorgeous sunset once again here down under. [Gnat flies by. Brief pause.] Now, as I was saying about this red...."

That was weird

Laure Chipman's picture

Aaron (not you, Aaron Bilger -- the new guy):
It's as if you came to a party at Linz's house, walked up to him and said "I don't like you", and left.  OK, we get that you don't like him, but what was the point of doing that?  If you don't like the host, don't come to the party.  Or at least avoid the host!  All you've done is make the other guests chuckle and say "that was weird" as you leave.

Okay so I've had my fun in

Aaron Williams's picture

Okay so I've had my fun in here, and now step off the stage, never to post again. For those of you with whom I've left a lasting impression, few or none as you may be, I hope you hold tight to my teachings. In case you lose grip sometime, however, remember this: even though it may not seem like you're being influenced by certain leaders in Objectivism, even though the whole philosophy to which you subscribe yells loud free thinking, even though you yourself might have been born unleashed before reading Rand, be sure to never, NEVER - even if it means cross-examining yourself all the time - let yourself make judgments based on an emotional need to be accepted or not rejected. To some this might be a laughable statement to make in an Objectivist forum, but there are TONS of people in here - even if tons there aren't - who need to know it. Change the leader of a forum, change the culture of the members ... unless they resist this likely fact.

Adam,

I guess that means you don't agree with me, brown finger.

Sorry I can't come up with any epistemological comments. All I have is what appears below. I could talk about consciousness, but that might require another thread, and has nothing to do with my purposes here.

James, Linz has proven that

Aaron Williams's picture

James,

Linz has proven that he's almost beyond change. I've seen it all, man. So I'm not exactly going to try and delicately powder his face. It'll just fall off, into his Corn Flakes, like sugar.

Aaron, Do this: sit down on

Aaron Williams's picture

Aaron,

Do this: sit down on a patch of grass with a mate, in a city center somewhere, while tons of people are around, and wait until someone near you calls out for another person with the same name you have. Then turn around in the callers direction and say "Yeah?", so that you can then watch as the person you're with flops onto his side in laughter, and the caller looks at you and says, weird frown included, "Oh, um, no-no, I meant that guy over there."

Well, there's at least 3 non-Orthodox Rand related boards including this one. There are several libertarian boards. I post to several and many antagonize each other, but my first action wouldn't be to take a dump in the board leader's Corn Flakes to try to effect change.

James,

"If you prefer a site with sedate gentility why pick this one?"

If you prefer a different government, go to another country. Is nothing worth fighting for suddenly? Let's all create match-box-sized properties and meditate in the middle of them.

If there's a dissent section, in a forum devoted to thoughts I think can bring about a better humanity, but which is run by dangerous minds, then I'm going to try and right the wrong, cement-lidded as the other posters may be.

"Random loads of psychologizing have no value other than making me laugh hysterically (at you not with you) for a moment."

So random psychologizing automatically makes someone wrong?

If I thought Linz was going to be hurt by what I've been posting, I would have toned it down. Linz, on the other hand, doesn't care how people feel. How am I exhibiting nerve, and doing the same thing as him?

Mushrooms

James Heaps-Nelson's picture

Aaron,

Objectivists come in many types and personalities just like other groups of people. If you prefer a site with sedate gentility why pick this one? I've found many "libertarians" that go much farther over the top with much less justification than Linz has.

One thing I will say is that a lot of Objectivists don't live up to the promise of the philosophy. Rand talked about the glory of the American industrialist. Why don't more people go out and live the capitalist dream? Well, I don't worry too much about that because it's their loss if they don't. I think that's more a reflection on people themselves than on the philosophy.

Jim

James, I don't have a prob

Aaron Williams's picture

James,

I don't have a prob with Objectivism. It's a grest and seemingly sound prospect. It's the ugly mushrooms it grows, due largely to the soil Rand laid. You're asking me to lay down my cards. I have. Perhaps you haven't the eyes to see my kind of cards anymore. You say you've butted heads with Linz; maybe you caught something.

Marnee's picture

James, my man, why are you being so diplomatic? He certainly hasn't earned it!

"Maybe you could learn a lot from the opponents of folk like Linz."

Uhh the opponents are everywhere in this forum. Most at least attmept to bother to add some kind of intellectual content. Random loads of psychologizing have no value other than making me laugh hysterically (at you not with you) for a moment. It sure takes a lot of nerve to come on here and attack a man using the same tactics you are criticizing of him.

YIKES

John, Pronouncing words

Aaron Williams's picture

John,

Pronouncing words correctly may count, but if you really give a shit about life, if you really feel good about it, if you love existence and find it to be truly and utterly sacred beyond words, you don't go correcting peoples usage in the way Lindsay characteristically does.

My first post wasn't in poor taste, John. Maybe you could learn a lot from the opponents of folk like Linz. I certainly have nothing to learn from him. This is the dissent section, is it not? Nothing I've said in here comes close to that man's immaturity. Why question my intent?

-aaron

Aaron

James Heaps-Nelson's picture

We're all big boys and girls here and I've butted heads with Linz several times, but why not simply show up and put your cards on the table about something you dislike on the relevant thread? Objectivism as a philosophy is a guide to action and it won't substitute for a person's independent judgment, having an awareness of their own psychology and it won't solve all of life's problems. So what?

What is it fundamentally about reason in epistemology, egoism in ethics and capitalism in politics that you disagree with? Then maybe we'll have a basis for a fruitful discussion.

Jim

Jim, Do you really believe

Aaron Williams's picture

Jim,

Do you really believe there's no difference between how a philosophy appears on the page and how it appears on an application level, no difference between the page and the forum? Even if there aren't any flaws in a philosophy, they'll appear when it's applied, due to a misperception of the fundaments involved. And when there ARE flaws - as there are with Rand's views in my opinion, which I'm loathe to elucidate - you'll see even more skin sores appear. I see such sores in forums. So, because it's the application that counts, I do indeed judge a philosophy on this level, yes.

jtgagnon's picture

Welcome to SOLO. I haven't a clue as to why you have devoted your first post to a personal attack on Linz. Frankly, I find it to be in extremely poor taste. In my opinion, you could learn quite a bit from Linz. So, instead of being an annoying little fuck, why don't you take some time and actually try to understand WHY he says what he says.

And for the record: pronouncing words properly IS one of the things that REALLY matters in life.

Forums

James Heaps-Nelson's picture

Aaron, why would adherence to Objectivism depend on what you've seen in forums? I would think you would judge ideas as true or false depending on your own validation of them. What Objectivist ideas do you think are wrong and why? If you have something substantial to add, this is an open forum let's see what you've got.
