Displaced millions will settle in Britain and Ireland :-)Submitted by Marcus on Thu, 2006-11-30 08:47.
The constant barrage of Global Warming scare-mongering and insanity that I read and hear in the news day after day generally makes me want to tear my hair out. However, a Global Warming article I read yesterday was so insane and wacky that it made me laugh out loud. "The days of empire may be gone but global warming will make Britain the centre of the civilised world once again, according to James Lovelock, the creator of the Gaia theory, which views the world as a self-sustaining organic system ... Displaced millions will settle in Britain and Ireland and will have to be accommodated in skyscrapers that will make cities resemble the Hong Kong of today — which by 2100 will be uninhabitable, he said." I hope this news item gets a lot of attention - because on the one hand it is so far-out that people may wake up to how insane the so-called environmental scientists propagating this nonsense are, while on the other hand it will make unpleasant reading for those environmentalists who have wet dreams about UK sinners being flushed down a communal toilet!!! Scientist predicts Britain will triumph over global warming. However, on a more frightening note - according to "the Guardian" twelve US states are now taking the EPA before the US Supreme Court in order to force it to regulate CO2 emissions at the federal level. Hopefully, reason will prevail and the Greenies will lose this case and this Green madness will go away!!! But don’t count on it. “Twelve US states, led by California and Massachusetts and backed by several cities and environmental groups, have brought the case to try to force the Bush administration to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from cars and factories.”

Paul Ehrlich...
...amongst other things discovered the first antibiotic drug by screening syphilis infected mice with various chemical compounds. He was looking for the famous magic-bullet and found it, no 606.
There is a great old black and white film dramatizing his achievement, Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet (1940). I was delighted that this film actually celebrates the achievements of a real-life scientist and also the scientifc method.
Ehrlich the Immunologist
Marcus,
Right. The one I had in mind was the fool that lost the bet with Simon.
Speaking of the other one, isn't he the fellow who developed the first effective treatment for venereal disease? (I think he was the scientist portrayed by Edward G Robinson in the biopic, Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet.)
Jeff means Paul R Ehrlich..
...by the way. Not the late highly respected German Immunologist Paul Ehrlich.
Ehrlich the 2nd
Clearly, Lovelock has taken over Paul Ehrlich's 'job'. Not surprisingly, he's even more insane than Ehrlich. Everything is more radicalized these days.

The dangers of crying wolf over the climate.
Here is a good article from "the Independent" on the political and scientific folly of the current Global Warming scaremongering. Even if you don't think that Blair was over-exaggerating the strategic case for the Iraq war, I think you will still appreciate the parallels drawn here.
"One of the more entertaining aspects of the current "climate catastrophe" caterwauling is that some of the scientists who are most alarmist - such as the brilliant James Lovelock - were 30 years ago warning that we were on the verge of a new Ice Age. One reason was that between 1945 and 1975, global temperatures fell. Between 1975 and 1998, global temperatures rose slightly - and set off a symmetrically divergent panic. Over the past eight years, global temperatures have been as close to stable as makes no difference."
Dominic Lawson: The dangers of crying wolf over the climate.
Does Lovelock know which of
Does Lovelock know which of a lot of humans won't die? Psychics will pay good money for that.
Of course other media...
...either have not reported Lovelock's speech or take out the more insane parts of his speech and try to make him sound more credible.
This is how it was reported in the Guardian on the 29th of December for example:
"Speaking before a lecture to the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Prof Lovelock repeated the prediction, made in his recent book The Revenge of Gaia, that global warming will kill billions of people this century. He said the Earth was undergoing a rapid transition that could boost temperatures by 8C, making large parts of the surface uninhabitable and food production impossible. A hotter planet might be able to support less than a tenth of its 6bn population.
"We are not all doomed," he said. "An awful lot of people will die, but I don't see the species dying out."
It just makes me sick!!!
An Obvious Norvegico-Ibero-Anatolian Plot!
...tear my hair out
Yeah, too true.
Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" cites estimates about sea level increase that are TEN TIMES the IPCC's 100 year estimates! In Bjorn Lomborg's most recent interview, slight global wrming by 2050 will save 800,000 lives a year, according to a recent economist's estimate. But do we read about this in the MSM?
James Lovelock is a Environmental religion True Believer. Somehow, his previous unfalsifiable book got little play in the US. I got a remainder copy of it only to keep tabs on the insanity, myself
