Criminals In NZ Have More Rights Than That Of A Law Abiding Citizen Or TouristSubmitted by Sandi on Sun, 2006-12-03 23:59.
I was reading Not PC's Blog It is illegal in NZ to smoke inside any public building and in some cases, outside as well. At Auckland International Airport, there used to be designated smoking area's, which have been removed because of the governments anti-smoking campaign. A law abiding citizen who is transiting or has gone through customs and is imprisoned within the airport, can not smoke anywhere. However if you are a convicted criminal in New Zealand, smoking is allowed in designated area's. check out the prison volunteers handbook as issued by the department of corrections I couldn't see if this handbook was current or not, so I phoned the department of corrections, media section and asked them "if prisoners were allowed to smoke in designated area's?" They confirmed this to me, "yes" they most certainly are.

The link should have been

Which now has been corrected.
'Tis a good job that we are dealing with the Department of Corrections here!
