Linz Interviews Anna MoffoSubmitted by Julian Pistorius on Sun, 2006-12-31 01:57.
This is the 1983 interview with Anna Moffo, recently deceased. It was recorded in her New York apartment, and edited to form part of Linz's National Radio series, Singers of Renown, which ran from 1979 to 1984.

Thanks very much for the info.
Please don't hesitate to ask if I can help with anything. Did you watch the Carreras interview?
Thanks. Yes, I watched the Carreras interview and learned from it. Haven't made a purchase based on it yet. I'm planning to slowly work through all your opera related posts on the forum, note suggestions, and hit youtube. Note: I am not a sick elephant (though I may have said I don't like opera in the past)
Right now I'm listening to An Invitation to the Opera by John DiGaetani. It has been very entertaining and informative so far, and when I'm through I think I should be able to ask intelligible questions.

The opening number was "Ch'il bel sogno ..." from Puccini's La Rondine. It's a while since I listened to the interview myself, but from memory the other items we used were One Fine Day from Madama Butterfly, the Habanera from Carmen, part of Bachianas Brasileiras off the Auvergne album, and Kiss Me Again by Victor Herbert.
"Darker" simply means heavier in texture, and yes, the Rondine is darker than the Butterfly. You'll find the Carmen is darker still, recorded later and dwelling more in the lower parts of Moffo's register, being strictly a role for a mezzo-soprano rather than a soprano.

Thanks, Linz
I am really glad I gave this a listen. I love her voice and went ahead and ordered(*) the Auvergne/Stokowski recording that seems to be everybody's favorite.
What are the other music snippets played during the interview (I was only able to make out the M Butterfly connection)? I especially liked the intro snippet. The technical terms went over my head, but I'm curious what the 'voice getting darker' means (I did not find anything on wikipedia!). Would you say that the intro piece (in the interview) is darker than the butterfly one - I think I could detect some difference.
