A brand new sky to hang the SOLO stars on tonight! Presenting...

---= SOLO Podcast #1 Download here=---

Soloists,
This is SOLO's first podcast, rightly called SOLO PILOT. The first of many to come, we hope. Featuring R.Giles, J.Limber, D.Bayne, J.Quintana. Feature interview with Solonaught James Valliant. Special inclusion of classic Lindsay Perigo material from the Politically Incorrect Show.

As producer of this new podcast my intention is to make SOLO PILOT into one of the forums just like any other, except that it will be in audio format. Contributions and suggestions will be highly regarded. I'd like nothing better than for other SOLO threads to spill over into the spoken word, right here.

Perhaps soon we'll get good at this and can drop the 'pilot' from the title. For now though, my thinking is this:

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
- Goethe

Hope you enjoy it

    Royalties

    Prima Donna's picture

Yes, Joe, it's royalty free. You simply have to credit the musician/song, and then it helps to post via PodSafe that you've used the music, as it boosts their ratings.

Musicians also sell songs on PodSafe, but a lot of podcasters use the royalty-free music.

FYI, if you guys go to the Podsafe Music Network there is tons of audio to choose from. No charge -- we use it for all of our stuff.

    Good job Rick!

Thank you for putting it all together. Outside of the audio quality, which I know you're addressing, I thought the interview was quick paced and interesting. I look forward to the next. -Jen

    1 down

Added you, Hilton. My Skype is 'Clarkvillian.'

It's true I snapped up my blog (because it pretty much is,) Silent Running, from Murray et al. But it was good! And nobody else was using it anymore! But Objectivist podcasting is hardly on the same plane as fellow Melbourne podcast, Shire Network News...

Come on, you all know you want to see New Zealand's greatest concentration of ancient and Medieval siege engines flinging rocks about!

.. I think that would be something very much of interest- as noted elsewhere on SOLO.

    And, Julian
Maybe you could also add a music section where a piece of music (sense of life music obviously) is discussed, dissected and played by a qualified commentator/s.

If you've got the podcast-safe music, I think Duncan would be qualified to offer- and stir up further- commentary.

    Marcus...

    ...you're in Britain, right?

I always get very slow downloads from Britain, and Europe in general. But, the SOLO server is located in California, to which NZ has access via the Southern Cross link, meaning fast access, which is what our American cousins will experience as well.

I don't know what connects the US to Europe but I assume it's more than the original 19th century transatlantic cable Smiling

We need to work on improving the overall sound quality and sound consistency. As to download time, that isn't a problem at all on my end. Very fast download.

(BTW, whats is the deal with this "ancient and Medieval siege engines" thing Smiling?)

I've only had time to listen to about 70%...

    Marcus's picture

    ...but so far, so good.

My only criticisms are the poor audio quality during the interview and the download time.

Apart from that, I look forward to the next one Smiling

Dammit Rick we gave you our blog now you're going after the podcast as well?

    Bad manners young man!

This would be where I casually link whore to SNN but... hell he's got the most successful podcast in the region and he never the credits the lines he rips off from me so to hell with him.

I will however unsubtly plug the WMD Fling event in May http://22ad.co.nz/events.html

    Very good guys

I have just listened to the show and yes while it was a first attempt you did well. Maybe you could also add a music section where a piece of music (sense of life music obviously) is discussed, dissected and played by a qualified commentator/s.

Hilton, I think you're on to something there. Got Skype?

    Interviews are a great idea

    HWH's picture

    Thanks to all contributors.

Interviews are very meaningful for getting to know someone better and I hope you continue doing just that...starting from the earliest to the newest members.

IMHO this to me would feature as valuable regular content for getting to know you all better.

Great initiative and looking forward to the rest.

    Thanks

You put it on iTunes, yes? If so, it would be helpful to put a sidebar graphic and link so people can subscribe to it instantly.

Glad to hear you guys are finally podcasting!

    Tips would be greatly

    Duncan Bayne's picture

Tips would be greatly appreciated - & as far as they pertain to my performance, feel free to post them to this thread.  I am still planning on interviewing the folks from the Free Muslims Coalition (once I can get hold of them), & would benefit greatly from constructive criticism given from all quarters, given that I'm new to all of this.

... and an exciting, significant step forward for SOLO. This old broadcaster will have some tips behind the scenes, but take a bow for an auspicious start. Mr. V. was loquacious and informative as always, and your choice of PI editorial was especially appropriate for openers. Nice to hear Jason's, Jennifer L's and Duncan's dulcet tones in there too. Good going Rick!

A long time in the making

    Jason Quintana's picture

We've been wanting to do this for a long time and I'm glad this is finally happening. It is certainly a "pilot" show, but I think with a few tweaks and a bit more experience we'll be able to make this into an excellent regular part of the SOLO experience. Thank you Rick for pushing ahead with this and thanks to everyone else who helped out with the first show.
