... by shooting both the perpetrators with her father's shotgun, one in the groin Smiling.  This, of course, is a shooting that won't be splashed all over the headlines, because:

 - it was a legitimate use of lethal force in self defense
 - the lethal force was applied with a firearm
 - the girl was a hero; the event wasn't a "national tragedy"
 - the perpetrators of the crime were members of a "victim class"
 - the "gun left lying around the home found by a child" actually allowed the child to save her life

So, I thought I'd splash it around here.

Home invasion gone wrong for [illegal] criminals

Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez 23 and Enrico Garza 26, probably believed they would easily overpower a home alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two story home.

It seems the two crooks never learned two things, they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine. Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.

...

This also provides strong evidence against the assertion of anti-gun lobbyists, that guns left in the home present a danger to children.  In fact, they present a danger to poorly raised, untrained children.

Hmmm

Drats, I hate hoaxes! Despite it being a hoax if I had children I'd still teach them how to use a gun to defend themselves as well as teach them to respect gun safety.

American Rifleman

I think its American Rifleman that provides a one-page monthly report on self-defense incidents like this.

The funny thing is I'm

The funny thing is I'm usually at the forefront of those bitching and grumbling about idiots who don't bother taking the time to check Snopes before posting tripe Smiling

I've just written to The Age

I've just written to The Age to retract my letter.  Which is a pity, because I think the bit of it that's actually true is quite good Smiling

People who repost urban legends w/o checking their provenance should be hung from the testicles while scholars beat them with weighty, footnote-laden tomes.

Oh, wait.  No, stoppit ... oWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Yes, I think Ralphel

Yes, I think Ralphel Resindez is actually the name of a Texas serial killer.

It should be pointed out that I think there is some question as to whether there is any truth to this story.

Just sent this letter to the

Duncan Bayne's picture

Just sent this letter to the Melbourne Age:

Dear Sir,

Reporters are ignoring the latest shooting in America: an eleven-year-old girl who shot and killed two armed home invaders with her father's shotgun.  Had she not, she would likely have died (or worse) at the hands of the home invaders, who were armed and who had killed a man in a previous home invasion.

Any tool can be used for good or evil, and only the user of the tool can make that choice.  To attempt to ascribe morality to tools is to avoid placing the blame for evil squarely upon those who deserve it.  Blaming firearms for mass murder is like blaming spray paint for vandalism – all the while ignoring the legitimate, moral functions of both tools.

We must applaud those who defend themselves and their loved ones from violence, and must ensure that the best means to do so remain available to law-abiding citizens.  People once thought of firearms as “the great equaliser” – and the heroic tale of an eleven year old girl defending herself against two grown men is surely proof that they were right.

Yours sincerely,
Duncan Bayne

Thanks for posting this Duncan. What a feisty little heroine. Good job! No doubt she would've been killed or raped or both by the scum.
