11-year-old girl stops home invasionSubmitted by Duncan Bayne on Wed, 2007-05-02 23:28.
[ Edited to add: Urban Legend. That'll teach me to post before checking Snopes ... by shooting both the perpetrators with her father's shotgun, one in the groin - it was a legitimate use of lethal force in self defense So, I thought I'd splash it around here.
This also provides strong evidence against the assertion of anti-gun lobbyists, that guns left in the home present a danger to children. In fact, they present a danger to poorly raised, untrained children.

Hmmm
Drats, I hate hoaxes! Despite it being a hoax if I had children I'd still teach them how to use a gun to defend themselves as well as teach them to respect gun safety.
American Rifleman
I think its American Rifleman that provides a one-page monthly report on self-defense incidents like this.

I've just written to The Age to retract my letter. Which is a pity, because I think the bit of it that's actually true is quite good
People who repost urban legends w/o checking their provenance should be hung from the testicles while scholars beat them with weighty, footnote-laden tomes.
Oh, wait. No, stoppit ... oWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Duncan
It should be pointed out that I think there is some question as to whether there is any truth to this story.

Kudos for writing that Duncan! That brave 11 year old girl deserves all the praise she can get!!
Just sent this letter to the
Just sent this letter to the Melbourne Age:
Dear Sir,
Reporters are ignoring the latest shooting in America: an eleven-year-old girl who shot and killed two armed home invaders with her father's shotgun. Had she not, she would likely have died (or worse) at the hands of the home invaders, who were armed and who had killed a man in a previous home invasion.
Any tool can be used for good or evil, and only the user of the tool can make that choice. To attempt to ascribe morality to tools is to avoid placing the blame for evil squarely upon those who deserve it. Blaming firearms for mass murder is like blaming spray paint for vandalism – all the while ignoring the legitimate, moral functions of both tools.
We must applaud those who defend themselves and their loved ones from violence, and must ensure that the best means to do so remain available to law-abiding citizens. People once thought of firearms as “the great equaliser” – and the heroic tale of an eleven year old girl defending herself against two grown men is surely proof that they were right.
Yours sincerely,
Duncan Bayne

Beautiful!
Thanks for posting this Duncan. What a feisty little heroine. Good job! No doubt she would've been killed or raped or both by the scum.
