The Mises Institiute has an Economics Quiz you might want to do in your spare time.

My score: 93/100.

The scoring system: 4 points for the Austrian answer (there are 25 questions), 2 points for the Chicago School answer, 1 point for the Keynesian/NeoClassical answer, and 0 points for the Socialist answer.

I got 92 a year ago, some of the questions seem to be written by anarchists.
One of the the questions is"Are the police an unnecisary evil"

I

got 95/100 and the 'Chicago' answer I gave is a bit nitpicky in its difference with the Austrian, but, gosh, there we are. Smiling

(I still think I gave the 'correct' answer)

91/100

Not bad given no economics training.
Common sense though I think.

Consistent with Austrian & Chicago answers.

Exactly

Laure Chipman's picture

Yes, turns out the Austrians were wrong and the Chicago school right, about 2 to   10 percent of the time.  I think we've proven that! Eye

98.

This was hard for me to take, because I had to consider for a second the possibility that I'm not perfect. Having thought about it for a bit, the only conclusion I can come to is that the test isn't entirely right. Smiling

92

I got 92 when I did this two years ago.

Apparently I'm a little too Chicagoan. ;^>

Cheers, Peter Cresswell

The sun was in my eyes

The sun was in my eyes... so I only got 81. Sad

I also disagreed with the "Private institutions for security and arbitration are more efficient and moral than public equivalents" statement. And I am not convinced their view of monopolies is correct.

I'm glad multichoice questions weren't that long when I was at school, I'd still be sitting school C.

95/100

The entrepreneur questions were easy. Smiling Why, there was even an FDR one there to set me to frothing. I realized I made a wrong click on one of them though -- ack!

I disagreed strongly with

Duncan Bayne's picture

I disagreed strongly with their position on unions.  In a laissez-faire economy it is perfectly reasonable for workers to form unions, provided those unions are not accorded any special treatment under law.

The Austrian criticism of unions - as I understand it from that quiz - is that unions are usually granted special powers & protection by Government.  That is most certainly wrong, but it is not a problem with unions per se.

Oh dear...

Lowest score here... 90/100... picked 5 Chicago answers. In my defense I did skip through it, and on reading my results saw the error of my ways -- with the exception of national defense: I think this is the role of Government and not private enterprise, for reasons Laure stated.

96

I got a 96.  It's pretty easy to tell which answer is which, and sometimes I found myself deliberately picking the Austrian answer because it was Austrian.  I went with the Chicago answer on a couple of questions regarding the role and necessity of government because I think the Austrian answers implied that anarchy works just fine, and it doesn't seem to in the real world.

By the scoring system Callum

Aaron's picture

By the scoring system Callum describes 99 shouldn't be possible Eye. IIRC, I also got 99 when I took it a couple years ago, but Chicago school answers counting as 3 points.

My score

My score was 99 (honest!) when I took the test about three years ago. Not bad for a self-taught "Austrian" who studied engineering.

My score

91 / 100.
