Interesting interview from Australia's ABC radio, blogged about on Hitting Metal With Hammer blog..

HILL: What’s so wrong about it? They’re just engaging in some free speech, which is protected by the Fiji Constitution?

LEWENI: What paid to go around and saying bad things about people and speculating? To you that’s right? If that’s right, then I don’t think we should continue this conversation, bye.

Major Neumi Leweni, Fiji Military Forces spokesman, there, talking (for a little while) about the Fijian state's hunt-to-interrogate service for Fijian bloggers. Guess the new post-coup military rule doesn't like being talked about.

Hey, I blogged from Fiji last month! If you want me, Leweni, I'm in Canada. Eye

It's a serious worry, and the sort of thing our Prime Minister of New Zealand should be speaking out against. As Murray points out though, it would be slightly amusing in a way since Mrs Clark so looks down on we bloggers!

This attack on liberty is very much directed toward a minority of the politically interested though, I'd say. The computer to rugby grounds ratio, in my Fiji experience, is a damn sight lower than ours.
