Off to a sensational start. Just watched the first match, in which Argentina held out and bet the French. Sets the Cup off on an interesting foot.

Right.

I'll have to watch a game right through and form a proper opinion. Will report back Smiling

(It is the game with those awful shorty shorts, though, isn't it? [Trying not to appear too fixated on this]. And the no sleeve jerseys?)

Beach volleyball

Doesn't sound like AFL to me. Perhaps it was beach volleyball you were watching?

What I see is a superb integration of mind and body - athleticism and intellect combined in an almost non-stop four- act human drama.

There's nothing else in sport to touch it.

I've never understook the appeal of AFL. Those gross little shorts, and the feminine volleyball style jumping and hand patting: very, very strange, I think.

Victory dance?

Peter Cresswell's picture

Didn't the poms do a victory dance around Huddersfield after a similar score against the All Blacks?

In their book 10-28 is a victory.

Cheers, Peter Cresswell

PS: A great weekend's sport, topped of for me by Geelong's 106 point thrashing of North Melbourne in the Qualifying Final for this year's AFL premiership!

I really don't...

...know what to make of Oliver. I can only assume the selectors see other qualities, but not in his throwing.

The Italy game was a good first run but the game I really enjoyed was the USA-England match. England looked like a bunch of old men, and the US team played brilliantly to lose only 28-10, which is a victory in anyone's books.

Mmm. Despite the score line

Mmm. Despite the score line against Italy, I was a bit worried by the fact that on Oliver's substitution he had his first line out throw turned over: he's just never been able to fix that problem.

Also untidy at times: they'll have to play much better than that against the Boks.

(And why oh why oh why did the selectors not take Weepu: I will never agree with that decision.)

You're right Ross, although,

You're right Ross, although, for atmosphere, it would be a shame if France don't at least make the semi finals.

Looking forward to the first All Black outing tonight.

(Are you still in Timaru?)

Bloody oath

This really throws the cat amongst the pigeons.

France's main opposition in Pool D was Ireland, with Argentina running interference. But if Argentina can maintain this form, then it's just possible that they and Ireland will qualify ahead of France.
