SOLO-NZ Press Release: Tough Crap! Shoot ‘em!

September 29, 2007

“It has taken only a predictably, obscenely short while for a skanky politician to link the recent ‘Shoot 'em’ email circulated among police to the fatal shooting in Christchurch of a drug-crazed, hammer-wielding maniac,” notes SOLO-NZ spokesman Lance Davey.

“Tariana Turia, in her capacity as co-spokesthing for the Mordi Party says: ‘If such material is being widely circulated, it is evidence of a very disturbing police culture.’

“No Tariana, it's evidence of a tired, beleaguered, police culture. Frontline police are closely scrutinised and often condemned for using any force. It's evidence that one fed-up cop wanted to encourage fellow officers not to hesiitate in the defense of their lives for the sake of appeasing a troop of screeching finger-pointers such as yourself and your colleagues.

“The only criticism that can be levelled at the cops is at their administration and their political mentors for trying to deny private citizens under similar threat the right to defend themselves equally decisively. (See Greg Carvell.)

“The Mordi Party has leaped onto this, in predictable and disgusting fashion. It won't matter what the outcome of the investigation into this incident, career ‘victims’ such as Turia and her Party will always see the members of the NZ Police as being at fault.

“Meanwhile, the eloquent message of the e-mail should be emblazoned across the sky for all perpetrators of violence to contemplate as to what will befall them: ‘Tough crap! Shoot ‘em.’”

doesn't that rather confirm what I said last night? Sticking out tongue

Okay...I used the figure of 90% to make a point, but it turns out to be more like 87%.

(so sue me in the World Court) Eye Sticking out tongue

you should have popped in my line from last night about 'disturbing cultures'

If I could have found some published statistics I would have. It appears that that sort of statistical research is discouraged now.

I found this though:
Māori are significantly over represented in apprehension, prosecution and conviction statistics. Appendix A contains selected Police and Justice data showing widening disparities between Māori and non-Māori in the Criminal Justice system. In summary, this data shows that in 1998 Māori (aged 17 and over) were:

1. 3.3 times more likely to be apprehended for a criminal offence than non-Māori;

2. 3.6 times more likely to be prosecuted than non-Māori;

3. 4.1 times more likely to be convicted than non-Māori;

4. 1.5 times more likely to be sentenced to imprisonment on conviction;

5. 51% of the prison population but only 14% of the general population.

It grates me how it is presented in such a way to make it appear as if these "over represented" chaps are getting picked on somehow

And let this man not

And let this man not hesitate in any other situations, lest he be frozen from paranoia of the wrath of Tariana!

I really don't think this occurs to the screeching finger-pointers does it? They're just so happy to offer up the cops for sacrifice, so long as hard working, innocent, criminal scumbags are safe. Disgusting behaviour!

This appears as though the Policeman acted appropriately, there is no reason to suspect otherwise. There will be an investigation and that's fine. Nothing about it warrants the evil, screeching display by Turia and her ilk.

Great

Policeman had shot a man

Policeman had shot a man before

"I would describe him as a proactive police officer with a great deal of operational experience," Haslett said. "In my experience, he was always professional. This is the sort of guy that I would feel confident if he was backing me up.

"Often when you are actually out there, there are cops whom you immediately know are going to give you the support that you need, and I would put him in that category."

The officer, who The Weekend Press is not naming, received the Commissioner's Gold Merit Award for confronting a man brandishing a sawn-off shotgun.

In that incident, the sergeant risked his life to support a colleague who had a gunman advancing on him. Both officers fired pistols at the gunman, wounding and then arresting him.
