Hitchens: The Price of Freedom-Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Security Trust

Liz's picture

"In Slate two weeks ago, I mentioned that security for Ayaan Hirsi Ali might have to be paid for partly by private subscription. Here are the details for all who may wish to contribute to this eminently deserving cause.
Checks should be made payable to the Ayaan Hirsi Ali Security Trust and sent to the same trust in care of Bank of Georgetown, 1054 31st St., NW, Suite 18, Washington, D.C. 20007. The trust's tax identification number is 75-6826872. Those who prefer wire transfer should use account number 1010054748 and bank routing number 054001712. This appeal is a test of our seriousness in the face of theocracy and its assassins."

Good Fuck!

atlascott's picture

As a lawyer, I always cringe when people make "First, we kill all the lawyers" comments.

But this German Judge is a moron who should be beaten herself.

It's real simple--live in Germany, become a German, follow German law, or get the fuck out.

If you loved Morocco so much, march your wife beating as back there.

Naturally, the letter fails

Peter Cresswell's picture

Naturally, the letter fails to acknowledge that Rasha H.E. ter Braack's government first revoked Hirsi Ali's passport and had her thrown out of the Netherlands.

So much for the commitment of Ms ter Braack's government to free speech, free association or indeed freedom in any way at all.

Cheers, Peter Cresswell

"Dear Lance Davey,

In reply to your meassage of 12 October last, in which you expressed concern with respect to the protection of Ms Ayaan Hirsi Ali, attached please find the letter that the Netherlands Ambassador in Washington recently sent to the Washington Post addressing similar concerns expressed in that paper.

I trust the content of the letter assures you of the commitment of my government to free speech.

With kind regards,

Rasha H.E. ter Braack

Dutch Commitment to Free Speech

Letter to the ambassador

Lance's picture

To Her Excellency Ms Rasha H.E.C.M. Ter Braack Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

I hope you have the decency to be ashamed to represent the Dutch government. Ashamed of their abandoning of Ayaan Hirsi Ali to the slings, arrows, bullets, bombs and knives of rabid Islam. The Islamic corrupted sense of justice, that they can kill to exact revenge for an insult and that they can murder for offense, must be fought unhesitatingly and with complete unwavering commitment from western civilization.

For the Dutch government to cut Ayaan, a Dutch citizen, loose; for them to wash their hands; for them to look guiltily into the eye of barbaric murderers and say “who us?”; for them to shrug their shoulders and attempt to absolve responsibility; for them to fear causing offense to blood thirsty 'moderate' Muslims by protecting a citizen, who has been specifically targeted for utilising her right to free expression, is unforgivable cowardice.

This is not an “internal affair” of the Netherlands, to quote Christopher Hitchens: “If a prominent elected politician of a Western country can be left undefended against highly credible threats from Islamist death squads, what price all of our easy babble about not "appeasing terrorists"?”

That Ms Ali will still be afforded protection whilst in the Netherlands is not enough. She is as much a Dutch citizen at home as she is abroad, to not extend that protection past your borders is still so much filthy cowardice. This means the protection only stands so long as she stays home and shuts up? Cowardice, filthy, slimy cowardice! It shows your government's fear, the fear of Ms Ali traveling internationally and telling her story. I'm sure it is much more convenient to have her on a short leash at home.

Lance Davey.

Should give you this:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: abandoned to fanatics. LA Times

"Hirsi Ali may be the first refugee from Western Europe since the Holocaust. As such, she is a unique and indispensable witness to both the strength and weakness of the West: to the splendor of open society and to the boundless energy of its antagonists. She knows the challenges we face in our struggle to contain the misogyny and religious fanaticism of the Muslim world, and she lives with the consequences of our failure each day. There is no one in a better position to remind us that tolerance of intolerance is cowardice."

That Judge...

Should be disbarred.

Need I explain why? Didn't think so.

I found an interesting link

Lance's picture

I found an interesting link from the Washington Post write up of this story:
A German judge has stirred a storm of protest here by citing the Koran in turning down a German Muslim wife's request for a fast-track divorce on the ground that her husband beat her.

In a remarkable ruling that underlines the tension between Muslim customs and European laws, the judge, Christa Datz-Winter, said the couple came from a Moroccan cultural milieu in which it is common for husbands to beat their wives. The Koran, she wrote, sanctions such physical abuse.

I am sending a note to her

Liz's picture

I am sending a note to her and to U.S. officials. I am also willing to donate money if needed.

Ms. Ali is one of our bravest and I recognize she is fighting for me.
The world would be for the worst were she not in it.

I'm seriously considering

Lance's picture

I'm seriously considering penning a short note to the Dutch ambassador in New Zealand for what it would be worth. This is disgusting.
