Rudolph W. Giuliani said this morning Democrats are drawing moral equivalency between U.S. allies such as Israel and enemy countries and terrorists and that they failed to learn the lesson of peace through strength that President Reagan showed.

In a major foreign policy speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition in Washington, Mr. Giuliani, the Republican leading the national race for his party's presidential nomination, said the next president must openly threaten war in order to make war less likely.

"You have to stand up to dictators, to tyrants, to terrorists. Weakness invites attack. Strength keeps you safe," he said.

"You cannot negotiate with someone who is threatening to destroy you and your family. This is the great fallacy in this now very strong Democratic desire to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate and negotiate," he said. "You've got to know with whom to negotiate and with whom you should not negotiate."

In a barbed speech, Mr. Giuliani told Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, who justified his pledge to negotiate with enemy leaders by pointing to Mr. Reagan's negotiations with Soviet leaders, that he got his history wrong.

"I say this most respectfully — you're not Ronald Reagan," he said.

"Here's what Ronald Reagan did before he negotiated with the communists. First, he called them the 'Evil Empire.' Then he took missiles — he put them in European cities, and he pointed the missiles at Russian cities with names on them. And then he said, in his very nice way, 'Let's negotiate,' ..." Mr. Giuliani said, drawing waves of laughter and applause."

Hahahaha!! Go, Rudy!!

all jokes aside....

I think the one person worth sending to the Whitehouse in the 20th Century was Barry Goldwater.

He was an enormous loss to the World.

He was a genuine libertarian, proposed reducing the US Government back to its pre-New Deal size, made the hilarious suggestion of 'lobbing a nuclear bomb into the men's room at the Kremlin', would have repealed the unconstitutional Civil Rights Act 1964 Laughing out loud , cut taxes 40 years ago to less than their current levels and would have sorted out all manner of criminals like... Ho Chi Mihn, Martin Luther King, Breshnev, Malcolm X, Tito, Abbie Hoffman, the Black Panthers, Hollywood liberals, the NAACP, Castro (and that lying tosspot Nelson Rockefeller)...in about 5 minutes!

wishful thinking

If only there were a candidate with Ron Paul's domestic idea's and Rudy's Foreign policy.

Rudy '08!

I have to admit that the field of Pres. candidates is pathetic for '08. However, Rudy IS the best candidate in the entire field in my opinion most friendly to the Objectivist philosophy. Obviously he is not an Objectivist (far from it) and has made some very foolish choices as Mayor of NYC, but the fact is is that he has the best idea's and leadership ability to be the next President of the USA amongst the field. One of the candidates WILL be the next President of the USA, one should therefore vote for the best man for the job even though he may not be the 'perfect' candidate. I cannot speak for anyone at ARI, but it appears that unless a candidate is an Objectivist superman then one should vote for the most vile candidate. Nonsense! That's like saying the Germans, if given the choice, should have voted Hitler into office. Progress is not made by sitting on your hands. Rudy '08!

Rudy's the best they've got.

He knows how to handle a crisis, he's made it clear that he won't put up with appeasing terrorists, and he's still far more knowledgeable about economics than any of his fellow Republicans save, perhaps, for Ron Paul. And to top it off, he's in full favor of a woman's right to abortion and the right any two adults of whatever gender to marry.

I'd actually heard about the "alien invasion" question a few days ago; I've got friends who were there when it was asked. Who ever said that old boy connections are only useful for politics? Smiling

asked (2) Has there been ANYONE in the 20th/21st century who was worth sending to the White House?

1) If there's any, it's Ron

1) If there's any, it's Ron Paul. Extremely consistently laissez-faire, though some will oppose him for a non-interventionist foreign policy.

As for post WWII, the least-bad realistic candidate I can think of would have been Robert Taft. He wasn't consistently libertarian, but was pretty darn good - the leading opponent of pretty much everything New Deal.

2) The least-bad presidents in the 20th I'd say were Harding and Coolidge - shrunk government spending and did very little meddling.

Couldn't agree more

"Rudy and Hillary are both too Socialistic..."

So here's a couple of esoteric questions for you guys to ponder:

(1) Is there anyone in the current Congress or Senate that IS worth voting for? If so, why?

And just because I've just visited Harry S. Truman's museum in Liberty Missouri, I was wondering who the best post WWII Presidential candidate was?

(2) Has there been ANYONE in the 20th/21st century who was worth sending to the White House?

But between Rudy and any of the Democrats, its a no-brainer.

You can only choose from what is offered.

I love Romney's hair, though.

Rudy's not the worst candidate

up for the nomination.

But I'm a bit troubled by the fact he hasn't broken clear in the polls for the nomination yet.

The thought of Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson as Hillary's opponent is a little disconcerting. I think she'll wipe the floor with them and if she does, the US will be on it's why to a NZ-style Socialist society before you can say bugger!

We've heard it all from her in the last week:

(1) $5,000 government trust fund (a 'baby bond') for every US newborn.

(2) More paid parental leave.

(3) NZ/UK-style Universal government health care.

The last one is the one I can't believe. US citizens really believe that the same people who screwed up their Social Security scheme can take care of their health needs...

But that's OK, because Leonard says Socialism is dead. Well, I've got news for ya Lennie, Hillary the Socialist Zombie is walking the Earth looking for victims.

Well ...

Pretty well handled by Rudy. The more I see of him the more I like him.

Just waiting for a Hsiekovian to justify voting for Gore over Rudy.

Note how they've all vanished, the Hsiekovians?!

It's not easy, toeing a really dumb party line.

No matter what you think of Rudy Giuliani you certainly can't say he isn't hawkish.
