Stop the Jihad Protest in Auckland

I've just got off the phone with Javed Khan, President of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ), and pitched him the idea of organising a “Stop the Jihad” march.

There was a very long pause, then he told me how busy he was, then he said he would think about it.

I explained to him that I’m going to get a large crowd of non-Muslim New Zealanders on the street but without the support of the Muslim community we’d come across as racists. He saw my point.

He asked me what sparked the idea. I told him it was about time non-Muslims knew there really were devout moderate Muslims who did not support the war declared against the West. I asked him if he could think of a better idea to get the average New Zealander to stop looking at Muslims with suspicion. He saw my point.

He said he’d have to organise a meeting with the leaders of all the groups “to get them mobilised”. I said, “Great!” and told him that I thought this would be a shot that would ring around the world. There was another long pause, and then he asked for my mobile number.

Don’t start making the signs just yet. I’ll keep you posted.

It was deferred

to the FIANZ AGM in Wellington at the end of June.

Dr. Khan has invited me to speak to the council either on the 28th or 29th. He says it would be better if the motion came from me rather than him. Smiling

Did you hear anything after the February board meeting?

March anyway

personallydisinterested's picture

You will only be regarded as racists if you say racist things.  If you set a date for a peaceful march to unite peace-loving people from all cultures in NZ, the Muslims will have to make a choice.  If they choose not to participate, you don't have to say anything but:

"I don't know why they didn't participate, we invited them.  This is not a protest against Islam, it is a protest against the terrorist jihad.  We announced this march and encouraged all peace-loving people, including Muslims, to participate."

If you are waiting for a prior commitment, you probably wont get it.

But without Muslim support

But without Muslim support it would no doubt be misinterpreted (deliberately or otherwise) as a racist dig...

Exactly.

What is the bet I can pin him down and get a straight answer out of him? Smiling

ummm. Zero? You might get a straight answer in private, yet, retracted in public--subtly implying that you are a racist pig. But it will be clever enough to give you nothing to argue clearly--it will not be honorable.

But I support you 100%.

I'll organise it

But without Muslim support it would no doubt be misinterpreted (deliberately or otherwise) as a racist dig... especially if you were the only one marching with me. Smiling

As far as their participation is concerned, I'm not holding my breath...

I am confuzzled Shocked ...so let me ask you this:

Are you expecting the Federation Of Islamic Associations of New Zealand to organise, endorse and take part in an Anti-Jihad march or not?

Are you expecting them to say "Yes, we will get right onto it, splendid idea"?

"I create nothing. I own"

I need more ammo...

and I'll get it! Smiling

Oh hurrah!

Lindsay Perigo's picture

There's a board meeting in February! Allah be praised!! Tell the Sharia-amputees in the video linked to in Sandi's thread. Tell the guys being stoned ... oh, wait, they're dead.

You're being taken for a sucker, Glenn.

Time to write your article methinks. Smiling

What's the bet

He's not declining he's deflecting

Peter Cresswell's picture

As Michael says, he's not declining he's deflecting. February board meetings indeed.

Declining to march against the Jihad

Jameson's picture

is an action in itself.

No flip side

Peter Cresswell's picture

As Michael points out, unless you tie him down there's unlikely to be any flip side.

Thanks, Michael...

Jameson's picture

I'm sure he won't play fair, or join the protest... but there's a flip side if declines.

BTW I thought Swami meant "Owner of Oneself"... that's pretty enlightened for the ol' Hindus. Smiling

Jameson, I had to look up

Jameson,

I had to look up "swami", yikes! Smiling

"Not sure what you mean..."

He won't play fair.

Glenn,  I kinda shook my

Newberry's picture

Glenn,

I kinda shook my head over this thread. During the Iraqi invasion I read 4-volume set A Thousand and One Nights. I love the format and have enjoyed the morality tales. I assume that those tales are part of the psyche of the Persian and Arabic culture--perhaps something like Greek myths and Dickens are to ours.

It might be a bit confusing but I will try to make two points. The first is that, in those Arabian tales--cleverness was the superior virtue. It didn't matter if someone was good or lying murderer--what mattered was that the hero must have a nimble mind and make worldly successes. I found this surprisingly odd--some tales were of clever good people, and some of extremely successful, clever, evil people. And evil won out at the end of the tale just as often as the good did.

Perhaps, in culture where they do not recognize rights, one must be clever or perish.

I would be dumbfounded if a middle easterner traded being clever for "doing the right thing."

A second thought. Is that we in the west have been raised on individuality. I think the west naively thinks that individuality is some kind of axiom shared by all peoples. I think true individuality is surest way to get yourself killed in those countries.

It is easy for us westerners to conceive of the "right thing", that a hero can only be a good guy, and what the Statue of Liberty is.

I don't see how anyone can "get on" without sharing premises. And cornering a person that spends their life being clever, will be diffused by deflection--February board meetings anyone?

Update

Jameson's picture

Javed Khan informs me that his executive will be reconvening in early February and has given me his email address to stay in touch. He says the march will certainly be on the agenda...

I'll get back to you.

I had this idea a few weeks ago...

Jameson's picture

Your post on the ICV spurred me to get off my arse and do something about it. The best outcome would be them joining the march... otherwise:

Placard #1: JAVED KHAN REFUSED TO JOIN THIS MARCH.

It sounds like we had

Duncan Bayne's picture

It sounds like we had exactly the same cunning plan at exactly the same time; you with Khan, me with the ICV. And as you say it's a win-win: hopefully they'll come out swinging against jihad, & if they don't, that in itself will be a wake-up call to NZ & Australia.

Buy and wear InfidelGear - 100% of all InfidelGear profit goes to SOLO!

And that, Duncan, is my cunning plan...

Jameson's picture

This is a win-win scenario: he either joins the chorus of peace-loving Westerners who condemn the Jihad, or exposes himself and his organisation as being part of the great majority of so-called 'moderate' Muslims who, by their silence, sanction the Jihad.

And if that's the case, the next step is to shout that news loud and clear.

I will be recording his excuses.

Putting them on the spot is

Duncan Bayne's picture

Putting them on the spot is of vital importance. It'd be great if organisations like Khan's would stand up in support of Western values. But if they won't, then we need to make that refusal as public as possible, in order to present the rest of the population a clear, irrefutable contradiction of the propaganda that is being circulated.

Javed Khan ...

Lindsay Perigo's picture

... is a closet Islamo-Fascist. I've interviewed him a few times. No way will he go along with this. But it's good to put him on the spot.

As a collaboration with

Lance's picture

As a collaboration with FIANZ it would help keep away the nationalistic turds that demonstrations like this would ordinarily attract and counter any negative spin the media would ordinarily give it! Nice move Glenn Laughing out loud.

Eagerly awaiting more news.

I

Elijah Lineberry's picture

suspect they will attempt to stop it and we will all be called racists and bigots.

But I think it is a splendid idea!

We should be able to organise some intelligent speakers and make an impact.

Yes...

Jameson's picture

the question is, will they join a Stop the Jihad protest or try and stop the Jihad protest...?

That's lateral thinking

Mark Hubbard's picture

That's lateral thinking Jameson. It'll be fascinating to see what(if) he comes back to you with.
