Mr. President,

You said a few days ago, "History teaches us that underestimating the words of evil, ambitious men is a terrible mistake. Bin Laden and his terrorist allies have made their intentions as clear as Lenin and Hitler before them. And the question is, will we listen? When it comes to funding our troops, some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters."

Your words were profoundly wise. But do you realise that "some in Washington" includes not just your Democrat opponents, but your Secretary of State?

I know you've studied the history of WW2, Sir—in particular the appeasement of Hitler by Neville Chamberlain. Mr. President, Ms. Rice is a Chamberlain in your Administration. She is wilfully underestimating the words of evil, ambitious Islamo-Fascists like Ahmadinejad. She continues to counsel diplomacy while the Iranians supply the weapons that kill your troops in Iraq. She is deafening you, Mr. President, to the requests of your commanders on the ground. General Petraeus has said America is fighting a "proxy war" with Iran. You, Mr. President, must step up and fight this war, as President Reagan would surely have done, and cease to be deterred by the mealy-mouthed weasel-words of Ms. Rice.

While she appeases the Iranian fascists, she is also grovelling to Vladimir Putin and North Korea and tacitly assisting the latter's nuclear machinations with Syria. Mr. President, this woman is a viper in your midst. Mr. President, Condi must go! At stake is not just your own place in history, but the future of western civilisation itself.

Respectfully,

Lindsay Perigo

makes a good point about the 2008 election.

A perfect historical precedent would be 1968 and the Vietnam War, where what was 'Lyndon Johnson's War' unfortunately became 'Richard Nixon's War'.

No one will ever let that happen again!

Nixon's "mistake" in this respect was to take the view of "oh we have such a commitment and all these POW's I just can't end it like that, better stay and find a solution".

The next President, seeing what happened to Nixon, would say "stuff that, they are coming home right now...shame about POW's and civil wars, but I have not worked my entire life to get here only to have it destroyed by these people!"

Any action in Iran not specifically sanctioned by Hillary, Rudy, Fred Thompson (or Al?) will be halted at 1 minute past midday on January 20th 2009 to avoid ending up like President Nixon....and it eternally gets blamed on President Bush, who is portrayed as an out of control madman.

The 'Clinton Spin Machine' would not hesitate to have a supposedly spontaneous "oh gosh, I did not realise the microphone was on" knee capping of President Bush...at the Inauguration...of calling the troops home and describing Bush as a lunatic who requires mental health treatment.

This would be the story for all of history...and something President Bush would want to avoid.

Treason ...

... would be if I were to say, "Mr. President, if you don't fire Condi and get into Iran quick-fast (oh, and publicly convert to Objectivism while you're about it) then I'll vote blanketly for your opponents—or Rudy's opponents—at the next election, and urge everyone else to do the same."

The opponents = don't go into Iran, surrender Iraq.

Yup, that would be treason.

Rice...

...is not the issue.

The real reason Bush is pussyfooting around is the 2008 election. They don't play cricket in Crawford but I'm sure he knows all about queering the pitch.
