Another month gone. STILL no global warming! I’m sitting here in Wellington freezing my butt off!

It’s been an eventful October, with a fantastic SOLO function (nearly resulting in Linz’s premature death), food poisoning (nearly resulting in Glenn Jameson’s premature death), a jailing (possibly resulting in Rick Giles’ premature death), a premature Rugby World Cup exit (nearly resulting in the premature deaths of 30 All Blacks and 172 support staff), and many more successfully offended Muslims, Christians, Politicians, Journalists, and PC lefties. YAY!

Lance Davey has again been the bane of our politicians' and media’s inboxes, with 16 out of a whopping total of 28 Press Releases and Op-Ed’s for October. That’s nearly one per day! Again I say, and will continue to say, don’t be afraid to write a Press Release!!! Kudos for this month goes to Lance, Linz, Marcus, Elijah, Mike, and PC.

As mentioned, the SOLO function was a great success, as proven by nearly everyone who turned up to breakfast the next morning being hung-over. Out of the ashes of this function, another has been proposed. Mr Hilton Holder, our South African-Australian who resides on the Gold Coast of Australia, has kindly offered up his mansion as accommodation for the proposed SOLOC 5. The proposed date for this conference is over ANZAC weekend on the 25-26-27th of April 2008. This is obviously a convenient weekend for Aussies and Kiwis, but I can’t stress enough for SOLOists from around the globe how nice the Gold Coast is for a holiday. FAAAAAARR better than New Zealand

spluttering into their libations.

SOLOist of the Month (selected by Linz): Mitch Lees, for the launch of
Samizdat.

Faithless Hussy Award (selected by Linz): Claudia, for preferring
Christopher Hitchens to Linz.

Faithless Hussy Award Runner-up (selected by Linz): Mitch, for preferring
Annabel to Linz.

Hunk/Doll Award (selected by Claudia): Mitch and Annabel, resplendent at
Atlas party.

SOLO Sulphur Award: Glenn Jameson, based on reports of his emissions before,
during and after the Atlas party.

Ya-Made-It-Gal! Award: Oirishman O'Cresswell's classic (1903) BMG, getting
all the way from Auckland to Wellington for the Atlas party. And back.

Resurrection Award: Sam Pierson. After several years AWOL, turned up at
Atlas party, copped an earbashing from Linz, resumed posting anyway!

Moving forward now…

The chat-room is unfortunately delayed again. Our webmaster William has not been impressed with any of the programs available at the moment, so it appears we may be heading for a new Drupal upgrade. Please direct any enquiries to William. I don’t understand the first thing about website upgrades etc.

The Comrade Collection initiative has had moderate success. In all, we had five new members eligible for their copy of the Free Rad. Don’t worry guys, I haven’t forgotten, and will be in touch shortly.

Samizdat has been launched, with the first issue out last Sunday! Many thanks go to Mark Hubbard for sponsoring the first issue with a kind donation. If anybody else wishes to help out as Mark has done, it will be much appreciated! A website for Samizdat will be up shortly. More details soon.
