Even though I very much enjoy the posts by the Solo guests, they take place in the house of Lindsay Perigo which has now repeatedly proven to be bully of the worst kind. Not being true to yourself has been a reason for Lindsay to disconnect Solo members from their peers yet it is Lindsay himself who firmly believes that reason free personal abuse equates passion. I believe that is called emotional ranting and bullying. I believe his behaviour is unacceptable and in fact I think it is Lindsay who should be told he is no longer welcome on this site. Yet it is his site so there is only one cause of action. I will have to leave and deny myself the great articles and insights of the rational Solo members. The best way to defuse a bully is by stopping to give him any attention. As good or worthless as my posts are, I have removed them from this site as I no longer wish to contribute to the bully's powers. It is not the message but the way the message is delivered that is the problem, only very thick skinned people can survive the abuse that goes around on this site. Abuse which I think is counter productive to the aim and credo of Solo Passion.

Anyone know where one can
Anyone know where one can view the new doco?
Grace, I wish I had your optimism
But I don't. As you know the global hype around climate is my trigger. I talk about it with many people every week. Often intelligent people but people that decided not to bother with mundane stuff like maths, science or other lame factual stuff.
And very often I find discussions ending with "That is too hard for me, I just take it as it is" . A basic lack of math skills and a basic knowledge of physics would be enough to uncover the rubbish we are fed every day but people at too dumb to question it. They really are just too dumb.
How can an objective person make up his mind if he lacks the basic skills to interpret and question information?
I think life skills are learned when you live your life. Schools are there to arm the children with basic skills that they can use to sift through information.
You mention statistics. The art of bending real numbers in such a way that you can portray just about anything you want. Again without basic math you are nowhere.
Chris Carter says: " it will emphasise values such as the importance of honesty and working hard."
Well, I tell my son that there is no way he will ever be rich if he chooses to just work hard.
This idiot also said: "It will also require a stronger commitment for teachers to educate pupils on the effects of climate change and put a greater emphasis on the environment." So how is that not brainwashing?
They will focus on the focus on the Treaty of Waitangi more. Yeah that is going to give them an edge!
"This curriculum represents a shift away from focusing on knowing facts and figures to knowing also how to use knowledge effectively and apply it outside the classroom," Miss Clark said.
Exactly my point! We let Helen tell us the facts and then we go and act upon them. Reduce Carbon emissions? Yes Aunte Helen we are on it! How can that not make concerned?
I wish I had your blind optimism and trust in the state on this one. Call me cynical but this is bad stuff.
Carbon Tax is a hoax. Read more at carbonhoax.org.nz and spread the word.
Oh
Grace
..gosh..I am presuming that is one of your jokes?
"focus more on creating students who can think for themselves"
That reminds me of Peter Cook's parody of the Judge's summing up in the Jeremy Thorpe Trial... "and now members of the Jury, I will leave it to you to consider your verdict of not guilty"
To let children 'think for themselves' would result in a number of inevitabilities...
1. Maori have nothing to moan about
2. Colonisation worked splendidly in NZ
3. Capitalism and greed are the only important things in life
4. Women are not rational
5. There are class and social differences between people
6. School Masters and Labour MPs are failures in life who cannot get a real job
7. etc...etc...
I hardly think such a thing will be allowed to happen!
I am often tempted to homeschool...
but you can't do that AND earn an income... well, at least I can't yet.... and by the time I can, my youngest daughter may be finished school.
I know Paul, I know. It's sickening. And more tangatawhenua rubbish to be made compulsory. Treaty of Waitangi is all the history they want our kids to know. Thank god for books and the internet... I mean, thank man!
Interesting interpretation
Education Curriculum documents have been quite generalised, as is this one. I am not sure what specifically annoyed you but the move with the document released yesterday is to pull back on the spoon feeding of information and focus more on creating students who can think for themselves. To do this the skills of research and interpretation become of utmost importance. There is also a push for the areas of Statistics and learning a second language.
I
have yet to familiarise myself with the fine print of the new curriculum, but what I have heard is typical Socialist idiocy.
I do hope it will not apply to Private Schools...gosh!...but I pity the children at State Schools having to endure mind control.
If anything, it is a splendid case for 'Home Schooling'.
