Last week sencing murder was
Last week sencing murder was the number one rated TV show in the 18-49 age bracket and was number four in the 5 and over ages.
Now tonight prime have a show called Lisa Williams Life Among the Dead
Aristarchus the
Aristarchus the mathmatitian and geometer believed the earth was round and orbited the sun and that the moon and developed methods to measure the distance and size of both the moon and sun.Aristarchus was used by Corpernicus in his paper explaining a helicentric solar system.Aristarchus's main rival was Claudius Ptolemey who at 150 bc also belived the earth was round but believed in an earth centric solar system,he explained the retrograde motion of the planets by postulating epicircles small orbits within orbits that caused the planets to appear to go backwards.
Ptomeley developed working models of his system which accurately described observed motions of the planets and came up with convincing aguments of a earth centered solar system. The catholic church in the middle ages was in favour of Ptomeley's system. Nicolous Cerpernicus's reference to Aristarchus was to deflect the claim that he was a heritic.
The reason why Christofer Columbus had a hard time getting funding for his mission was the correct estimate that going to India by going west would be an economically unviable route to take. The aguments against his mission rested on accurate knoledge of the Earths circumference and less accurate knoledge of the size of the Eurasian continent. The logic was that the distance to India by going west would be so great that most of a ships cargo would have to be displaced by provisions for the crew significantly reducing the value of cargo each ship could carry on a comercial trading voyage.Christofer Columbus's detractors were basicaly right on these points.
Christofer Columbus's agumentation in favour of his voyage of discovery was based on assuming that the possiblity that measurements of the earth circumference using Eratosthenes method could be higher than what the earth actualy was due to inaccuracies in measurement (although islamic mathmatitions had measured the earths circumference to within 20 km in the early middle ages } and the geastimate of Asias length was an underestimate. If both of these assertions were true than it might be possible to profitably sail trading voyages west to India and asia without having to sail round Africa or deal with taxes imposed by arabs on trading routes.
"When Columbus discovered
"When Columbus discovered the world was round..."
Coffee. Spat.
See, Kevin
that's the difference between us: we know.
What planet are you on, Kevin?
Planet earth I think?
That's right, Claudia
And around 200 BC Eratosthenes proved that Earth was a sphere by measuring its circumference, confirming what everyone had already known for over 200 years.
What planet are you on, Kevin?
Quack Kevin...
Even in Aristotle's time (340BC) "they" knew that the earth was spherical in nature. By 1492, Columbus's day, the flat-earthers were a tiny minority and were not the common consensus of scientific opinion.
untangle the mass of memories
"hell, you wouldn't be able to untangle the mass of memories from just one life - let alone past ones - you silly quack!"
I suggest you wouldn't be able to untangle them. I do on a daily basis with precision.
When columbus discovered the world was round, the people called him mad because THEY knew the planet was flat. [flat earthers] Maybe thats where your reality on the subject of past lives lies?? We call it Societal Lag.
Beetles? You mean...
John, Paul, George and Ringo?
Damn!
That's pomowank. You're a goddamn relativist.
You know how to hurt a guy. But I still know there isn't a green spider on Mars running the universe.
Strictly, the claim that there is is arbitrary, and does not even deserve the dignity of being called "false." And the onus of proof remains on anyone who wants to claim it's true.
Glenn...
God, if He exists, has an inordinate fondness for beetles.
What's your point?
Tell that to...
Wells, Verne, Asimov and Vonnegut.
Claudia...
The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.
Richard...
Altogether inconceivable would mean that you are sure that it is not so.
For shame
Knowledge is contextual.
That's pomowank. You're a goddamn relativist.
Yes I do ...
Knowledge is contextual. In the context of what we already know, I'm fully entitled to say I know there is not a green spider on Mars running the universe. "Unreasonable to believe" is the same thing, Richard. Unless you're an intrinsicist.
No you don't
You can't claim to know that there isn't a green spider on Mars running the universe.
What you can claim is that it's unreasonable to believe - or, as Hume might put it, altogether inconceivable - that there is.
The best argument against
The best argument against the existence of psychic phenomena such as precognition is economic: if people really could do this shit, Wall Street would become utterly dominated by psychics within a generation, and that fact would inevitably become well known.
(Sadly I can't claim credit for this idea, but neither can I remember whose idea it is ...)

You are right Lindsay
mmm, yeah, you are right and I am wrong on this one. I stand corrected.
I imagine that psychics would claim that the TV program is the proof but real scientific proof has never been achieved to my knowledge.

Elijah
chatting with the Queens corgies. Hahahaha... classic!
Onus of proof ...
... is on him who posits the positive. Psychics solve crime. The onus of proof is not on sceptics to prove psychics don't solve crime. In the context of the rest of our knowledge we know the claim has to be nonsense. There are those who say we can't say we know there isn't a green spider on Mars running the universe until we go check. They can speak for themselves. I know there isn't, based on what I know about spiders, Mars and the universe. Let anyone who says there is provide the evidence.
Ha
ha
..That show screams "white trash" from the rooftops
Gosh, Mitch...most amusing
I must say, Kevin, if you are going to start chatting with the Queen's corgies from the other side of the World, and telling us about your experiences as a camel during the Battle of El Alamein ...chaps on here are going to be sceptical.
On the other hand...if you have had future lives
and can tell me what the gold and cattle prices will be in 2009, I am more than happy to listen
"I create nothing. I own"
Well...
Paul isn't saying he believes in it or even that he thinks there's a reasonable chance that it's true. He's just being scientifically minded. No matter how unlikely something is, you PROVE it's bullshit before calling it bullshit.
For the record though I'm not terribly interested in going to those lengths. I'm quite happy to assume this is bollocks.
Not you too Paul?
That show screams "white trash" from the rooftops. Please don't tell me you believe it!? It's just another "reality" TV show, except much more disgusting in that it capitalises on real life tragedy.
How about proof
I too am sceptic about this TV show, however screaming that it is a setup just isn't enough no matter how loud you are.
If the TV show is a con then there must be information about it. Plenty of people are involved in such a production, surely someone would talk. Even the video linked before doesn't actually provide proof.
So the scene here is similar to the GW believers who don't need arguments but just yell "GLOBAL WARMING" and attack the person. Here you yell it's a con without providing any form of evidence.
I commend Mark for his daring first post where he asks for information about the show. It would be great fun to expose this con, especially since it has been running for quite a while.
Carbon Tax is a hoax. Read more at carbonhoax.org.nz and spread the word.
Damn Straight!
So Kevin, if I may ask, can you fill us in on a couple of memories from your past lives? When did you live? What was your name? Can you speak other languages? Have you been an animal? Or a tree? You must know all of this seeing as you know how to access memories from past lives, right?
Hocus Pocus!
Our memory pool contains every single memory, from every single image, sound, smell, place, dream and experience that we've ever had - from infancy to the present moment.
Half these memories sit in our subconscious... we don't even remember that they've gone into our minds. A lot of the time people can't even remember in the morning what they dreamed 3 hours ago during the night, but the dream can suddenly be jolted back into the conscious memory at some random time.. maybe via a smell or an image... or even a similar feeling.
There is absolutely no reasonable basis for you to claim that a memory has come from any other life than this one... hell, you wouldn't be able to untangle the mass of memories from just one life - let alone past ones - you silly quack!
Claudia
"How do you know that the memories being remembered are not from this life?"
When one looks at a movie he/she can tell what period in time that movie represents. The mind is similar to the movie and stores an exact record in time [memory with 52 perceptions] and the person looking at and accessing that memory can retreive the information in it.
As one accesses these memories more and more his/her reality etc on past lives [ memories] increases. Only then does the person start to learn that they are ealier memories
You don't tell someone they are, he/she learns that through looking at and acessing them himself/herself
I hope the above helps some.Cheers
If there were Psychics dont
If there were Psychics dont you they would make a killing on the stock exchange or currency markets
Best post ...
... on this thread.
Kevin, you're a shyster. If you stick around, I'll boot you soon enough. You're full of shit. Worse, it's illiterate shit. You should at least learn to spell and punctuate if you want your witch-doctory to seem semi-plausible.
Kevin...
As I haven't got the ability to communicate with souls.... but do access memory of past lives to cure illnesses in this life I can see the workings of sensing murder [simple telepathy].
How do you know that the memories being remembered are not from this life?
ahhhhhhhh!
Look, I'm not exactly a skeptic. I give credence to some pretty fruity shit but telepathy? psychics? Forget about it. Bull. Shit. If there really were people that could demonstrate abilities like these consistently, they would be up for the Nobel Prize or at very least they would apply for (and win) the 1 million dollar JREF prize. Give me a break.
There are five forces in the
There are five forces in the universe, gravity electromagnetism, weak force, strong force and dark energy.
there are many animals such as duck bill platupus, stingrays ,and various species of fish that use electrick feilds ether passively or by actively generating an electric feild, some like electric eels generate enough electricity to defend themselves.
Its entirely possible say that some species through the process of sexual selection have developed a way to signal each other my modulating the electric feild they generat but theres nothing mystical in that
What makes telepaphy bullshit is that theres no force to transmit it and theres no evolutionary evidence or reason primates would or could have evolved it,then theres no specific organ of the body to transmit it or recieve it,duckbill platapuses for example have about 50,000 neurons sensitive to changes in electric feilds in the beak and brain scans show a significant porportion of its brain taken up with analysing this sensory import.
Not to mention that dead peaple dont have anything to transmit anyway
Jon
Thanks for the YouTube link: interesting.
Ahhh my trusty friend
Ahhh my trusty friend sarcasm... it never lets me down.
Cos liek how can we really know anything LOL!?
You just admitted that you don't know anything.??
"where like these scientist guys PROVED that dogs are like telepathic."
They are a weird lot alright but they know how to pull in taxpayer funding no matter what the research project.
If I may suggest that you don't spend to much of your time watching dog scientists even though you may be deeply interested in that field. There are other more important things to learn. Cheers
Back on Topic
I'm kind of curious if anyone here watches the show Psyche. The whole premise is that the lead character is a con-man whose father was a highly skilled and strict detective. The father taught the son everything that he knew (ie the son has a photographic memory and can learn anything he needs from a 10 second glance at a crime scene).
Where the topic comes into play is that the lead is very undisciplined but he wants to use his detection skills regardless. He comes up with the cover of runing a "psychic detective agency" called "Psyche." The police are annoyed with his presence and he has to play up his discoveries in a theatrical manner. But the whole premise of the show is summed up with the theme song
"I know, you know, that I'm not telling the truth.
you know, I know, I just don't have any proof."

Telepathy has been tested
And it's failed everytime even though people keep testing it. It doesn't exist and if it did we'd be living in a different world.
Mysticism is a blight on the world and we'll be all the better the day it finally dies.

OMG Kevin that's like sooooo
OMG Kevin that's like sooooo true! Like I saw this thing today, where like these scientist guys PROVED that dogs are like telepathic. These guys are all so like close minded! Frankly I think that its dumb to just dismiss stuff like spoon bending and mind reading out of hand. Cos liek how can we really know anything LOL!?
Sensing Profits
what a bunch of mystical arse, every time I even hear of this program it makes me sick. How disgusting to make money out of people who have suffered so much. Scum.
Was just watching this last night actually, OZ show revealing Debb Weber's scam:

Simple Telepathy
Those ridiculling the program [sensing murder]as usual are ignorant of anything outside the square [brain worshipers].
A simple use of telepathy sends them into a spin and denial of its existence. They have to denigh any existence of past lives etc as it would make what they have understood to be true all their lives as false.
As I haven't got the ability to communicate with souls [those that have dropped their this life time body for what ever reason] but do access memory of past lives to cure illnesses in this life I can see the workings of sensing murder [simple telepathy].

I
am not much of a television watcher as I find it all rather boring and much prefer music and reading.
I have been searching for details on these 'Sensing Murder' and 'CSI' programmes (which I must confess to not having heard of before this morning) and...gosh
...it is just shocking to think witchcraft and fraud would be shown on television!
CSI seems very popular from what I have been reading, forensic scientists recreating events leading up to a murder victim's death.
Michael, that would be
Michael, that would be outside the stated rules under which the psychics work. But, of course ....
Linz, is right. How could this be, other than by a fraud. I'm going to say fifty Hail Ayns over a whisky, flagellate myself a bit, then go to bed. A moment of weakness. Must be.
You're kidding, right?
No so called 'reality TV' show actually presents unscripted reality on screen.
If it was, they wouldn't have a show.
They could have googled the
They could have googled the unsolved murders in the state they are going to or new zealand.using a laptop with mobile modem or palm pilot would do the trick
none of the information they have is any thing new
Wouldnt it be more usefull to give them all the known information then go from there otherwise its a useless party trick
Jesus, man!
It's not on the level! How could it be?
Re Sensing Murder, however,
Re Sensing Murder, however, if that program is on the level, then Debb Weber and the Cruickshank man (psychics), would both make you think very hard. I know one of the families featured on one of the episodes, whose son was murdered, and they both knew intimate details that they could not have known. Simple as that. And I'm not talking the generalised charlatan stuff, but Weber picked up the details of the son from an down-turned photo (male, age, Maori), then his exact name. Exact name, not sounds like, his full name. Also, that he was murdered on a ship in the Middle East ... and being a NZ show, there is no way they could've guesstimated to something like that. The fact the body was floating in the sea for several days, and then where it was found. The fact he was murdered with another man on the same ship. The exact position of the mens bunks on the boat. And on and on: that entire particular show contained detail after detail that was dead on, for two hours.
Again, if on the level, and unless I'm party to the program make up I can never know, but if on the level, then as rational as I am, those two psychics do unsettle my world more than just a little bit. I just wish I knew exactly how the episodes are filmed, and particularly, of course, whether the production team is feeding those two psychics the information. If they are being fed the information, then all is right with my world, if they are not, then I would need to rethink some issues.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the production values involved with that show? It is the only show of its type that has ever made me think beyond my reasoning on the topic of death. And note, just because they might be able to 'see' this information, doesn't mean there is an afterlife, but time is a funny, bent, thing.
[I suspect it may be smoke and mirrors of the Derrin Brown (genius) type, but from a position outside of the production crew, can never know.]
Anyway, you can laugh at me now ... one, two, three, go.
