With the most gorgeous sunset ...
... imaginable, my rellies and I just pumped the Lanza rendering out over the ocean. And his "Hills of Home." There wasn't a dry eye in the house or outside it. Pav is water to Lanza's steak.
Of course there are 32 different opinions. That's what makes it fun. Naturally, only mine is right.
Gullible chappess here
I liked the Lanza rendition over Pavarotti. I also read all 32 comments and found that there are about 32 opinions on who sings this best. I did get some more names of tenors though!
Actually ...
If chaps read the comments on the Lanza performance, they'll learn a lot about tenors. Chapesses too.
Clueless Claudia
has enough clues to save Lanza's version to her favourites list.
I posted Luciano's version though because it gave the lyrics!
Oy!
The Bizet was enjoyable, not so enamoured with the Puccini though.
That's cause Clueless Claudia gave you a weasel piss girly-man.
Try a real tenor for size!
Here are the lyrics to help:
E lucevan le stelle...
And so the stars were shining
ed olezzava la terra...
and the earth smelled sweet
stridea l'uscio dell'orto...
the garden gate scraped ...
e un passo sfiorava la rena.
and a step brushed the sand
Entrava ella, fragrante,
she entered, fragrant
mi cadea fra le braccia.
and fell into my arms
Oh! dolci baci, o languide carezze,
Oh sweet kisses, languid caresses,
mentr'io fremente
while I trembled,
le belle forme disciogliea dai veli!
loosened her beautiful features hid by her mantle
Svanì per sempre il sogno mio d'amore...
Vanished for ever my dream of love
L'ora è fuggita
The hour has passed
e muoio disperato!
and I die despairing
E non ho amato mai tanto la vita!
Yet never have I loved life so much!
The Bizet was enjoyable, not
The Bizet was enjoyable, not so enamoured with the Puccini though.
(On my brilliant, no wires, MP3 headset thing, while walking the dog, at the moment, I'm listening to the Flower Duet from Lakme, still one of my favourites. Although the headset has currently got an unholy mix of classical and Marlene Dietrich; good on their own, but not the best in a salad.)
