Lance mocks it, he doesn't

Lance's picture

Lance mocks it, he doesn't understand either.

On the contrary, it was you who I was mocking. And if the Sticking out tongue and Ghostbusters quote : "Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria", didn't help to make it plain that it was a gentle mocking, not intended to get your panties in an uptight self-righteous twist, then I don't know how I could have made it plainer.

Burst like a soap bubble

Rick Giles's picture

Nah it's gotta be Rick right?

Nope. I don't bother with these stupid polls. I clicked on this thread accidentally just now, and a good thing too...

Rick decried the Dom-Post's releasing of the terror transcripts because by doing so they broke the law,

In Rick jurisprudence one does not break the law, one challenges it from within.
You are in too much of a hurry to break it.

Turns out he'd been taking the wrong parts of Man for All Seasons too seriously.

Turns out you don't take it seriously enough!

The Law is a mark of civilised men and an indispensable pillar of liberty. Mr Perigo has an anarchical respect for it- he'll cut down every law to get at his liberty. Lance mocks it, he doesn't understand either.

Turns out he's not boned up on intrinsicism and the egregious fallacy thereof.

Turns out your answer for everything is that one is either a subjectivist or an intrinsicist. A parrot could learn that if that's Objectivism.

Kids, the rule of law in New Zealand does depend on the consent of the governed. By stealing a man's property rights you are ultimately rejecting his right to life. By picking and choosing what laws to break and which ones you find suitable you are ultimately rejecting the government of law per se.

As I was at pains to point out, this is not a metaphysical matter at all. We are governed by law, not because it is intrinsically good, it's not, but because we consent to it for our own safety's sake- to bridle the power of the wicked.

No, all that makes the law the law is our consent. And if enough of us withdraw that consent, as Lindsay Perigo does when it comes to buggery and, now, executive government, it will burst like a soap bubble.

I say again, government endures only at the consent of the governed. The authority is not within the stonework of the Beehive, it is not in the paper and ink of NZ statutes, and it is not even in the hands of our police and military. It is with the people.

Literally, all we have to do to make the bubble burst is refuse to consent to law per se. If we all follow Lindsay that can happen by lunch time.

Forgive me my romantic inspiration....
Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, Perigo, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast -- man's laws, not God's -- and if you cut them down -- and you're just the man to do it -- do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake.

Western law is a great gift upon which our capitalism and our freedom depends. Think you can do better? More power to you.
I will never claim that Western law is intrinsically good, nor subjetively good.

I claim that it is as fragile as a soap bubble before the pin of dissent. And I'm glad that Lindsay's efforts only constitute those of a very small prick.

Not me Mitch, if I am the

Not me Mitch, if I am the Mike you refer to.

I'm not an anti-globalisation Luddite who objects to corporations from Dubai buying a controlling stake in Auckland Airport  - that doesn't make me a supporter of the Saudi judicial system.

Yes

We all literally broke the dam, I literally broke the dam!

It was me.

Technically speaking on NZ political matters is something which doesn't apply to me (being American and all) for all I know you guys could be in the severe minotrity and the place could be crawling with Islamofacists.

Other than that, thanks for the show.

Very funny, Lance...

Next time don't apologise. Smiling

Lance is alluding ...

Lindsay Perigo's picture

.... to the conversation in my lounge where Rick decried the Dom-Post's releasing of the terror transcripts because by doing so they broke the law, which is a bubble, which, if pricked, bursts in its entirety, creating universal mayhem. Turns out he'd been taking the wrong parts of Man for All Seasons too seriously. Turns out he's not boned up on intrinsicism and the egregious fallacy thereof. Folk should study Objectivism before claiming to be Objectivists!

Yes, by his lights, he'd have to respect the Saudi judicial system.

Nah it's gotta be Rick

Lance's picture

Nah it's gotta be Rick right? Cos the law is like a ball, wait no a bubble, yeah like a bubble, and like ya gotta keep the bubble up in the air, and when you don't respect the law, like the ball, I mean bubble, falls down yeah. Judicial systems have to be respected or all our bubbles turn to anarchy! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Apologies to Rick, I couldn't resist Sticking out tongue

lol

Just another relativistic comment from Auntie Helen.
