Opinion Editorial: The Cruel Joke Played On British Socialism..Submitted by Elijah Lineberry on Mon, 2007-12-10 06:05.
The 20th Century was dominated by Socialism and Socialist thought. One obvious target of their wrath were the Rich who employed servants, and they had a great desire to change that situation. The average British Socialist politician had a view which went something like this: The 'Boss Class' were rich [a crime in itself] and these rich buggers employed servants! gosh! can you think of anything more shocking?!?! Some rich capitalist parasite needed a manservant to put toothpaste on his toothbrush!?!?! ...and bring him cups of tea! "Brothers, we need to do something about this, we need to abolish servants, make these rich b***ards do things for themselves" The unsaid reasoning behind all this was the 'Servant Class' awakening to how hard done by they were, how they were being exploited, and in the new egalitarian, Socialist paradise ...these people would show gratitude to the Labour government which freed them from bondage and exploitation with their votes, and thereby perpetuate eternally socialist Labour governments. [Evil Cackle] Unfortunately for British Socialism, a cruel joke was to be played on them... Indeed, this ignorant rabble of working class coalminers and trade union shop stewards did get themselves elected to Government, and they did put in place various policies which had the effect of making it difficult for the Aristocracy and the Rich to continue employing servants, and the resulting 'egalitarian' paradise. Something the Socialists did not see coming was one basic, unforseen fact....the 'servant class' were all Tories This meant they Labour Party spent its best years well and truly in Opposition and irrelevance The incomprehension at this ingratitude drove many leading figures in the British Labour Party to alcoholism and early deaths...but it came as no surprise to the Conservatives The supposed 'victims' of a Class System...victims of 'exploitation' and of differences between people....they did not see any problems...did not feel victims...and happily voted accordingly (by about 15 - 1 in favour of their Conservatives). Fortunately, people are starting to see sense once again about egalitarianism...and the greatest growth in employment in London is for domestic servants
