Starting out with Team RuthlessSubmitted by Duncan Bayne on Wed, 2008-01-16 09:37.
So, I'm now doing a workout programme from Team Ruthless; specifically RCAT (Ruthless Combatives Attribute Training). Two nights ago I completed their fitness assessment (and I still ache), and tonight I'm starting the workout sessions proper. Essentially what's happening is that Team Ruthless is providing remote coaching for me; keeping in touch by email and phone, and exchanging videos in order to impart & correct form. My aim is to get fitter & stronger, lose fat, and generally get into the kind of shape that will aid learning & applying lessons learned in training like AMOK seminars and the like. Currently, I weigh 86kg, and can barely struggle through 72 pressups and 182 body-weight squats. It'll be interesting to see how the RCAT programme effects that. [Disclosure: I'm getting a good deal on pricing in exchange for feedback & blogging - either positive or negative - about the whole remote coaching process, & RCAT in general.]

Update
So, I've just finished the first week on the RCAT programme. Man I'm stuffed. The first few days were utter torture - I'd wake up stiff and sore, feeling like I was 89, not 29.
By the last few days (of the 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 1 off pattern) I was feeling good the day after a workout. I could feel every muscle I'd worked, no question about it, but the feeling was good, rather than painful. I think it was just that I was so unused to serious exercise that it took a few days to get used to it. That and I've rediscovered the therapeutic powers of red Tiger Balm
It might be psychosomatic but I swear I'm already noticing a difference; I've long suffered from muscular weakness in my back, but I'm finding my movements freer and more natural. I'm also finding it easier to sleep at night (a bonus as my wife is away and I always sleep lightly without her here), and generally more energised during the day.
The hard part, of course, is sticking with the program. The workouts are short but brutal, and at least in my case are as much of a test of willpower as physical characteristics. So far I've managed to not miss a day ...

Thank you - that's actually quite a flattering metaphor; it means my life is progressing roughly as planned
Oh, and rest assured that I do take the time out to have a few drinks

... actually, I've been given a free diet plan. I simply look at my computer moniter and I sweat and shit weight off a brick at a time. It's being brought to me by the NZX, ASX, DOW, FTSE, NIKKEI, and HANG SENG.
I have to rehydrate with straight whiskey every night before going to sleep.

Ease up, have ten drinks. You'll kill yourself doing all this stuff.
