Another apology we'd like to hear

Seeing as it's Sorry Week in Australia, here's an apology I'd like to see some honest NZ education department apparatchik deliver.

Today I'd like to honour the New Zealand children who were delivered by government force into our care, and whom we rewarded by abusing their parents' trust and depriving them of the human potential with which they were born.

We reflect on your past mistreatment, and we have to say: we were responsible.

We reflect in particular on those New Zealanders who due to decades of our mismanagement have emerged from our factory schools functionally illiterate and wholly unemployable -- unable either to read or write or count, and who as a consequence now fill our prisons. On behalf of all my colleagues with whom I share the responsibility of putting your there, to you all we say sorry.

To the nearly one-million New Zealanders who have emerged blinking into the modern world -- unable to function in it due to the failure of our teaching methods and good for nothing beyond stuffing a ballot box -- we say sorry.

I say to you that the time has now come to turn a new page in history by recognising the wrongs of the past, and by ensuring with the end of our dominion over this country's children that they never, ever happen again.

We apologise for the laws and policies of successive governments and curricula and educational regimes that have inflicted a profound emptiness, suffering and loss on you our young New Zealanders. The public school system stole you away from your parents and turned your minds to mush. From the very springtime of your youth We took your bright, eager young minds -- we took them, your normal minds, and replaced them with mental retardation. To all of those whom we made unconscious for life by means of your own brain, we say sorry.

We apologise for teaching you that you do not belong to yourself, but that you are public property; that you must be taught not to amass wealth, but to seek instead your duty. To you all who were taught that contributing to the wants and demands of the state is superior to learning the virtues of rationality, independence and productivity -- for enlisting you into the great organic vitality of society, whether you like it or not, for the greater good -- we say sorry.

For substituting "group discussions" for delivering knowledge and "class projects for genuine understanding, we say sorry. For placing group hugs and socialisation over conceptual development and the acquiring of real skills, we say sorry.

For delivering you into the world as adults barely able to function, we really are desperately sorry.

And finally to parents who were forced to delivered up to us your children and your tax dollars and to whom we repaid by returning you burnt-out hulks coddled with therapy -- with dangerously inflated self-esteem and and an "appetite for destruction" -- we say sorry.

As you can see, we have a lot to apologise for.

We the former educational apparatchiks of New Zealand respectfully request that this apology be received in the spirit in which it is offered.

For the future of those of you whose minds we have mangled we have no hope, but for the rest of you we take heart in knowing that we are now removing ourselves from the ability to do any more harm; resolving that this new page in the history of this great country can now be written.

We today take this first step by acknowledging the past and laying claim to a future that embraces all New Zealanders still able to function.

A future where our parliament resolves that the children of New Zealand be kept free from our malign influence so that the injustices of the past must never, never happen again .

A future where you can embrace the possibility of new solutions to enduring problems where our old approaches have clearly failed.

We are really a very, very sorry lot, and we resolve hereby to never darken your lifetimes again.

"The child-molesters of the mind 'fessing up and pleading guilty!"

The problem is, they want fess up and plead guilty as you well know. They have one weakness and that is, all their funding comes from government coffers [no one else would pay them]. While they are seen as experts by the public, they will continue to be funded by the taxpayer but if public opinion changes and they are seen for what they are [The child-molesters of the mind 'fessing up and pleading guilty!] funding will be cut and their empire will collapse.

In 1965 came the Elementary and Secondary Education Act

This essentially put Psychiatry and Psychology in the drivers seat of society and firmly established the policies that would harm our children’s minds for the next thirty years.

The ESEA allocated massive federal funds and opened the school doors to a flood of Psychiatrists’ Psychologists, Psychiatric Social Workers, Psychiatric Programs, Psychological Programs and Psychological Testing that continues today.

Good to be back...!

...although maybe not in 'force' quite yet... still treading water because of our ridiculous centralized economy and my reluctance to abandon my over-regulated industry... Smiling

I see no reason why you can't contact the Alliance folks to gather enough information to advance a similar movement on the other side of the Pacific. Here in the United Police States, if you can appreciate the irony, a slight majority of the figures leading the charge for Separating School and State are religious types. So while it makes for 'strange bedfellows' I see a mutually 'beneficial' conclusion if enough people wake up and recognize they need to stop 'rendering unto Caesar' that which is *not* Caeser's (i.e. children by way of their education).

Thanks Mr Vardoulis

and good to see you're back in force.

Among heaps of other things I'd like to start a similar movement here in Aus and P*D, you're on the's the only reason people still believe in socialism...and not to mention...GOD!

That Jesuit priest knew of what he spoke when he declared that should he have access to a kid for the first 7 years, you could have him thereafter.

I admit that reason is a small and feeble flame, a flickering torch by stumblers carried in the starless night, -- blown and flared by passion's storm, -- and yet, it is the only light. Extinguish that, and nought remains.- - Robert Green Ingersoll

This is the real issue

Excellent writing Peter.  Reason is losing because of miseducation.

How is it possible that people can still believe in socialism?  Answer: government education.

Liberation in Education

Separating School and State the way 'church' (or any religious bullshit institution) and State should be separated would be the single most effective and lasting victory for individual liberty.

The Alliance for the Separation of School and State is worth taking a look at if you haven't done so already. You can sign their declaration "I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education"
at if you don't mind joining your signature with an even amount of religious types.

I think they should add a 'prominent Objectivist' or at least 'prominent atheist' leaders section to their list of proclamation signers. I might just drop them a note to that effect... Smiling

And as always a brilliant read, Peter!

Brilliant Peter

What you're talking about is in my view the greatest challenge to individual liberty.

Before Objectivism has any chance of stemming the tide of statism, collectivism and religion, our first task would be to storm the bastions and wrest our kids from the deathly grip that these child molesters of the mind have secured for themselves in order to guarantee their parasitic existence.

Anyone see "the invasion of the body snatchers"?...thats how I view the scum that are injecting their viruses straight into the minds of our kids, and at the moment there's not a damned thing we can do about it....we have got to change that if our struggle is to have any real meaning and purpose.

... would be an apology that meant something. The child-molesters of the mind 'fessing up and pleading guilty! I fear the other apology over the ditch is going to lead to even more of the kind of molestation apologised for in this spoof one. For *all* kids.
