Mamet Wanders Right...![]() Submitted by James S. Valliant on Wed, 2008-03-12 23:51
The man who gave us Glengarry Glen Ross and The Verdict is no longer "a brain dead liberal," as David Mamet himself writes in The Village Voice. From experience, he has discovered that freedom is the way to go. He also had some help: "I began reading not only the economics of Thomas Sowell (our greatest contemporary philosopher) but Milton Friedman, Paul Johnson, and Shelby Steele, and a host of conservative writers, and found that I agreed with them: a free-market understanding of the world meshes more perfectly with my experience than that idealistic vision I called liberalism." Mamet still thinks Godot is the Twentieth Century's greatest play, so, now, if we can just improve his theatrical taste...

I think Glengarry Glen Ross
I think Glengarry Glen Ross is one of the best plays ever written! ...Pacino was magnificent in it (should have won the Oscar)....and 'State and Main' the best piss take I have ever seen..I laughed and laughed when I first saw it (and yes, I did get all the "in jokes").
Delighted to hear Mamet has seen the error of his ways.
