Because it's about time somebody started making us eat better! We obviously can't do it ourselves.  As with every other crucial undertaking the government must be in control.  People who overeat are a burden on the rest of us because we chose to pay for them in the first place.  We are our brother's keepers, and we must keep brother alive even if it makes him miserable.

NYC is documenting the blood sugar levels of diabetics so that they can find out which ones don't take good care of themselves, just so they can let them know that they need to take better care of themselves.  They aren't mandating diets for diabetics yet, but how long till that time comes?

Most people used to agree with Orwell that big brother/nanny state was a really bad idea, what a frightening turn around.  Now people think it's funny how 1984 didn't come true.  It hasn't?
