Student appreciation

A student from my spring semester gave me a book along with a note of appreciation. I thought maybe SOLOists would enjoy this, since she mentions a lady with whom we are all familiar.

“Dr. Seddon,
I really enjoyed your class. It stretched me to think differently and outside what I believe. I know you like to read so I tried to find something that at least would be up to your potential. If you don’t like it, it’s ok. I do want to commend you—this one day while reading Rand [we read the Objectivists Ethics] you sort of went off on how we make our choices in this life. Working your butt off – does pay off. We are capable of anything. That made me so happy, because the dreams I have seem impossible but not to me. I love traveling and helping people—so thank you for your encouraging words." Brittany S.

When I'm teaching Rand I always project benevolence and optimism.

Whatever else we argue about around here, doesn't this sum it up?

"Working your butt off – does pay off. We are capable of anything. That made me so happy, because the dreams I have seem impossible but not to me."

Isn't the benevolence and optimism suggested by this the spiritual credit Ayn Rand deserves?
