The Making of Artemis

Recently I created a video on how I came about making the painting Artemis. Here is a link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk2ZYNDe7sQ if you cannot view it in this window.

Coming up with an expressive figure is perhaps not as easy as it looks. Just ask the artists on my mentor program. But it is really fun, challenging, and exciting to combine one's passioniate first impulses, the work's connotations and symbolism, and both art historical and contemporary influences. I discuss these in the video. I hope you enjoy it.

Soon enough, Mr. Newberry

The way I'm seeing my future - back and forth between Cali and New Zealand until finally making New Zealand my primary home - with a second home on my ancestral Karpathos where ALL SOLO-ists will most certainly be welcome.

Again, well done! Smiling

*Very* nice commentary, Michael!

Strikes me you should call her "Artemis Unbound"! Smiling

Such a poignant display of hunger

A mere mortal would flee from passion or roll over and surrender to it like a inferior dog.

A goddess would hunt it down and devour it.

That excites me.

Emotional, Elegant and Excellent.

Wow, I am delighted that I

Wow, I am delighted that I got these quality responses. Yes, Mikali, I know of Karpathos, it was nearby Rhodes, but I didn't get a chance to visit it. But I have heard first hand reports about the incredible hospitality of the people there. And I honored you think the painting is worthy of your ancestors. You're Greek: you must be saving up for a house there, when are we all invited?

I am glad you made those comments Landon. The style of my commentary must be heading in the right direction--I thought it important to mention that I had real living experiences supporting the concept of Artemis, that the image wasn't an abstraction or an ideal simply out of my head.

Gosh, I must really be doing something right to get such genereous praise from Olivia! Makes my day. Thanks.

Kasper, thanks for passing on your thoughts--and the part about her being beautiful is very welcomed.

Cheers,

Michael

Lovely Michael!

Artemis is my second favourite goddess - Athena being the first due to her vigilant protection of heroes and civilization. But Artemis has that tom-boy quality to her soul, the athleticism, the huntress and the temper that you speak of. You've captured it all beautifully in the feminine, feline pose. Great work. Bringing Legend to Life

Love your work and motivation, Mikalis! Especially the pictures from Rhodes, which is very near Karpathos - the island of my father's ancestors. Your work does a great justice to those ancesotrs, for what it's worth!

Great presentation

I liked the background on your motivations for the piece and ideas you were trying to get accross.

Also the piece itself was very beautiful.
