Religious fanatic out of controlSubmitted by Elijah on Fri, 2008-06-20 23:52.
This story is quite shocking.
It seems some religious fanatic..(a Christian this time)..school master has been burning crosses into the arms of pupils! Despite the obviously deranged behaviour of doing so, I am astounded this chaps pupils were forced to endure his teaching of creationism, and other Christian nonsense when attending his classes. Well done to the parents for initiating a law suit against this chap...this sort of behaviour should be stamped upon, especially as the pupils seem to have little choice in the matter. Gosh, you cannot turn your back for five minutes without one religious fanatic or another going for it full steam ahead, if it is not muslims it is christians!

New species of bacterium
Has the new species of bacterium got a name yet?
Then It's...
... one of those cases of "the feeling is mutual."
All I can do is beg: please keep your Bibles away from innocent children, Reed!
Oh, and check out the latest proof of evolution:

Down in the comments below the article, notice where someone makes the observation that evolution is a mere "theory" in the same sense that gravity is a theory and some clever wag says:
"It's not Gravity, it's Intelligent Falling. Angels are pushing from above."

I was thinking of you when I wrote "religious fanatics".
That Teacher...
... wouldn't get within a mile of my kid (if I had one, that is.)
Sacking the Jesus-riddled science teacher
Reed claims that the Mount Vernon middle school science teacher John Freshwater was sacked by 'religious fanatics' on the school board (who voted 5-0 to remove him).
Interested readers can read a report of the independent investigation of the complaint made against the teacher, here.
It seems to me that the teacher was dismissed for insubordination.

Out of whose control?
Elijah -
The article says he burnt the crosses with a "high frequency generator" (whatever that is). The students they interviewed described him as a "great guy" and there is no indication that this "burn" was painful or that it was done against the students wishes. Also it didn't leave a permanent mark (three or four weeks). Presumably this was done as part of a science experiment.
His crimes were...
1. Keeping a bible* in the classroom.
2. Drawing some cross shapes on students' arms (presumably with their consent).
3. Teaching the unreliability of carbon dating.
Do you consider each of these offenses sackable or is it all three together that makes it sackable?
Should a teacher be sacked if they...
1. Keep a copy of The Fountainhead in the classroom.
2. Draw an "A" on some students' arms.
3. Teach the unreliability of global warming models.
IMO the "religious fanatics" are the ones that had the teacher sacked.
*Note: The article also refers to "other religious materials" but I doubt the interpretation based on the rest of the article. Also if he truly had religious material in the class as teaching aids then that would be the focus of the article.
