What politicians can't take from you - your right to carry a gunSubmitted by Sandi on Fri, 2008-06-27 06:24.
American Supreme Court ruling today that clarifies the constitutional right of an individual to have a gun and may make many cities' gun control efforts invalid. The 5-4 landmark ruling is the first time the Supreme Court has clarified what the second amendment means. The majority concluded that the "right to bear arms" extends to the individual, not just the rights of states to maintain militias, like state guards and police forces. What is disturbing is how narrow the vote. "Who is John Galt?"

Hit Pieces
Here come the hit pieces:
Wm
I have finally gotten
I have finally gotten through reading the decision on the US Supreme Court website.
I was amused at Justice Scalia's comment ..."the two sides in this case have set out very different interpretations of the [second] amendment.."
Yes, because the liars and socialists make everything up as they go along, however absurd, whereas the 'normal' people ...(freedom lovers, capitalists, those seeking to defend themselves against evil and those who can read a fairly self explanatory document)...simply suggested the second amendment guarantees the right to bear arms, and based that view on...ummmmm....what the second amendment says.
A great victory for the forces of freedom and justice and self defense and capitalism.

Not Impressed
I see nothing good in this, for lots of reasons.
Future litigation is going to be hellish, nationwide.
The Court is acting like a focus-group: telling legislators and administrators how to tweak the program.
Nothing about the right to keep and bear arms has been clarified, and it will not be in my lifetime.
As I said in remarks at one blog: we are now long past the point where politics in this country is simply war by other means.
This whole front just opened up wider than ever before.
Oh the 5/4 vote is not
Oh the 5/4 vote is not unusual...it is rather like solopassion.com
...an issue comes before the Court and they sit around over morning tea and say "I think this is a good idea, but I do not want my left wing socialist chums to think I am an a**hole, so, gosh Antonin, let's call it a 5/4 decision *big wink* and you can write the majority opinion"
