Jesse Helms, the long serving Senator from North Carolina, has died of old age at 86. Although Helms was rather 'extreme' in some of his racial, economic and social views..(and hardly a libertarian).. he was 100% anti-Communist, and for that reason I have always had rather a soft spot for him. He opposed all the Treaties with the communists, opposed cosying up with China (especially over Human Rights abuses) and happily supported anti Communist Governments in Central and South America. A splendid chap! Helms was instrumental in helping Ron Reagan become a viable Presidential candidate in 1976...(and the rest is history, as they say)...and never let an opportunity pass to get stuck into liberals and socialists.
I found this quotation from Helms..."Your tax dollars are being used to pay for grade-school classes that teach our children that cannibalism, wife-swapping and murder of infants and the elderly are acceptable behavior.."

Let's decode that from conservative speak shall we?
He is not complaining that tax dollars are being used to educate children, he's complaining about what they are being used to teach. Further, cannibalism is kinda gross but often not actually illegal nor with a lack of initiative force is it immoral. Wife-swapping is not my bag either, but hey, consensually, it's fine too. Murder of infants and the elderly? Oh he means abortion and euthanasia? Yes, they're fine too.
Sounds like a douche-canoe to me.
