An Introduction

Greetings all.

I am a New Zealander living and teaching in Thailand. Previously I was a business owner- I had two large successful retail stores by the age of 30- and was, I thought, on the way to untold riches. However, market forces did what they do and after a somewhat spectacular downturn I folded the businesses and left, destitute, for Sydney. Here I worked to pay the gas bill and to see my way through a Business degree. The completion of the degree allowed me to move to Thailand where I teach English, with my partner, in an all-boys boarding school.

My introduction to Objectivism and Liberty was, like many, through Perigo's Politically Incorrect Radio Show. In fact, I was so much inspired by the show- its soaring introductions, humour and sense- that I used to schedule all my customer deliveries between the hours of 12 and 2pm just so I could hear the show, in peace, on the car radio. That this glorious programme was  delivered from the studio floor by a Shiraz-guzzling lush only increases my respect for its host! )  Thanks Lindsay.

I call myself a Libertarian but I wouldn't say I'm an Objectivist; I mean, for me most it is a "well, no kidding, who could argue with that", kind of thing, and then out comes the 'Polish' and my eyes glaze over... and so I guess I haven't fully tested all the arguments.

So instead I retreat back to Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead and all seem OK again! That's why someone like Prof. Campbell sickens me- these towering novels provide more than enough alone for me to revere Rand and thus I don't have the same burning desire that Campbell has to uncover her flaws.

"I call myself a Libertarian but I wouldn't say I'm an Objectivist..."

Don't worry. There's still time. Smiling

Great to see you Philip. You display abundant common-sense.

But further ammunition for Babs; "Shiraz-guzzling lush?" Eye

always good to have another person on board who openly celebrates Rand as the heroine that she was and still is.

... the good ship SOLO, Philip. The seas are a bit rough at times, but from your intro I'm sure you'll cope! Smiling
