The Times reports that Stalin and Tsar Nicholas II are currently battling for title of greatest Russian in their version of the BBC series.

What does this say about the Russians? They like bloody dictators or there is nothing else to choose?

The Germans chose Konrad Adenauer, but had Karl Marx as their number three (they were careful to exclude Hitler from the voting in advance.)

Contrast that with the UK who chose Winston Churchill, the US Ronald Reagan and NZ Ernest Rutherford.

Makes us look positively civilised in comparison to the Russians and Germans, doesn't it?

It doesn't say anything much

It doesn't say anything much about the Russians. They basically don't know any better. The Chinese will likely tell you Mao was the greatest Chinese of all time.

Communism hasn't been morally discredited yet to the extent that fascism has. If Hollywood wanted to do the world a favour it would stop making movies about Nazis and move on to the communists.

I think it should go to

I think it should go to Tsar Nicholas...splendid chap!

Oh! here is an amusing story for you Sticking out tongue ...

The author Steve Berry writes books in which he takes (reasonably) true historical events and writes novels about them.

I enjoyed the Templar Legacy and Alexandria Link.

Anyway, I was halfway through the Romanov Prophecy novel, which is about a theory on what happened to the two children whose bodies were never found...only to read their bodies had been discovered! Shocked ...making it pointless to finish the novel (as the rather predictable theory was only plausible whilst the doubt existed)...ha ha..so yes, gosh, rather a waste of $24-95
