When you have nothing to say...Submitted by Elijah on Sun, 2008-07-20 07:02.
Oh the Sydney Morning Herald goes from bad to even worse with its Opinion Editorial columns. Earlier in the week, as I posted on solopassion.com, there was the ridiculous story about Mr Della Bosca and whether he had dinner with Phuong Ngo the night John Newman was murdered, and now we have a bizarre story about Julia Gillard the Deputy Prime Minister.
The article makes a risible claim..(and goes downhill from there)... that Gillard was in line to be Federal Treasurer Yes, this writer is seriously suggesting that Wayne Swan as Treasurer is some sort of also-ran accident of history! ..oh what rubbish. At no time did Kevin Rudd intend anyone other than Swan to be Treasurer, and certainly not some left wing socialist female like Gillard. As someone who watches Australian politics rather closely I would ask the writer of this silly article to provide some sort of evidence (beyond interviewing his keyboard) which showed Rudd ever entertained the idea of putting a socialist in charge of the treasury, and the resulting irresponsibility.
The only accuracy in the article is the history lesson about the Whitlam government where the pathetic Frank Crean and communist Jim Cairns held the position of Treasurer and did their best to destroy the Australian economy....(Paul Keating hilariously describes these two as being "economically out of the stone age!")
I am disappointed in the Sydney Morning Herald....they know this article is false...they know there was never any question whatsoever Wayne Swan would get the job, and they know the person in Australia most astounded and scratching their heads today when reading that article is...ummmmm....Julia Gillard, who must be saying to herself "me as Treasurer?! wtf?" This sort of so called 'Journalism' is undignified and unnecessary.
