The Big Question

This is a truly very difficult situation to ponder so please give it your utmost thought and consideration. I do apologize for this highly technical dilemma.
THE SITUATION:

You are in New Zealand , Auckland to be specific.
There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe
flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions.
You are a photo-journalist working for a major newspaper, and you're
caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly
hopeless.
You're trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people
swirling around you, some disappearing into the water. Nature is
unleashing all of its destructive fury.

THE TEST:
Suddenly, you see a woman in the water.
She is fighting for her life, trying not to be taken down with the
debris.
You move closer... Somehow, the woman looks familiar...
You suddenly realize who it is... It's Helen Clark! You notice that the
raging waters are about to take her under forever.
You have two options:

You can save the life of Helen Clark or you can shoot a dramatic
Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of the country's
most powerful woman!

THE QUESTION:

Here's the question, and please give an honest answer...

Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the
classic simplicity of black and white?

American Version of HC

Transplant your story to the United States and I would select color film to capture the last moment of our own red amorphous witch HC -- Hillary Clinton -- as she gasps her last breath ... courts of law and public opinion be damned.

...is I think what you mean't to say Jameson Smiling

Well,

PhilipD's picture

I'd put a boot on her head and hold her under just to make sure......

No! No! Just KIDDING. Mindy there IS NOT a death threat here.

Of course I would save her.

Proving the point, Goode

Jameson's picture

You've linked us to yet another of your posts bereft of a personal point of view.

Some advice: before you try and solicit our perspective, how about you formulate one of your own.

A much bigger question

Richard Goode's picture

I posted a much bigger question here.

I'm surprised that none of you "sense of life" Objectivist types have had anything to say.

If it was Goode

Jameson's picture

I'd leave him be... he's probably just fishing for a response.

Good hypothetical, Kas

Jameson's picture

I'd let her go under in accordance with the principle of self-defense.

I wouldn't take a photograph, though, it may be used against me in a court of law.

I would have the

Newberry's picture

I would have the wherewithal to ask Goode if he wanted to be saved--he might prefer the raging chaos and the elation of being on the edge of oblivion.

Comprehension ; )

I would capture her on the colour film, you could always convert it to B&W later

Yes, all of the above,

Yes, all of the above, Rosie...(and even Richard Goode! ha ha!)

Elijah!

Rosie's picture

A glimpse of moral integrity! (albeit with reluctance - you "must admit" indeed!)

And you say you would save Helen Clark *or* anyone else. My! This presumably means without qualification as to whether the soon-to-die person was from a gang/poor/jobless/of Maori descent etc etc?

There is hope after all. Lol. Laughing out loud

Rosie

I see.

Newberry's picture

"Michael...Helen Clark is our Prime Minister."

Oh. (Wink)

Ha ha! Michael...Helen

Elijah's picture

Ha ha! Sticking out tongue

Michael...Helen Clark is our Prime Minister.

I must admit...I would save her..(or anyone else)..in that situation as I could never live with myself afterwards if I let someone die without making an effort to prevent such an occurance.

 Save the woman, of

Save the woman, of course, but who is Helen Clark?
