SOLO-NZ Press Release: New Brighton Police DisgustingSubmitted by Lance on Wed, 2008-08-06 22:51.
SOLO-NZ Press Release: New Brighton Police Disgusting August 7, 2008 “To hell with that and to hell with Detective Constable Grant of the New Brighton Police. Police dispensing such advice in light of the fatal shooting of Navtej Singh is an irresponsible disgrace,” says SOLO spokesman Lance Davey. “Good practice should always be the immediate defense of one’s person, family and property. If shooting knife-wielding lunatics (who have already tried to slash your throat) in the face with an air-gun is what it takes, then that is what it takes. It was only by the owner’s quick reactions, and I must say intestinal fortitude, to stand there, take aim and fire the air gun (an extremely ineffective weapon), that he was successful in fending off the attack. “Had he been in a country where the right to self-defense is not gimped by disallowing even non-lethal methods of personal protection, his safety would have been less in doubt. As it stands I cannot help but cringe when I think of how close he came to being yet another murder victim in the headlines. “To Detective Constable Grant I say the owner’s actions were good practice, you sanctimonious prick. And to the Christchurch dairy owner I say, well done and may you live a long, healthy life — even though now the police have taken away the air gun that previously ensured that. Be assured that if they charge you, they won’t know what hit them.”

The logic of this new bill.
Blaming dairy owners for booze fueled crime is like blaming car dealers for road accidents. No different.
Sometimes the government
Sometimes the government gets it right:
Florida statute on home/property/self protection:
Statute 776.013:
(3) A person who is not
engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place
where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the
right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including
deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so
to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another
or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.
(4) A person
who unlawfully and by force enters or attempts to enter a person's
dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle is presumed to be doing so
with the intent to commit an unlawful act involving force or violence.
Essentially it's a "stand-your-ground" or "line-in-the-sand" law. You aren't obligated to flee, warn your attacker, let them jack your shit, none of it. Best part: you can't ever be prosecuted for exercising this right, so long as you can prove your felt your life, limb, or that of another was in danger, or that a violent felony was about to occur. I especially like (4). It nearly skirts the matter of providing any proof to the courts on your state of mind. Once they force their way in, they don't always have to be directly or immediately threatening towards you to get shot. Two in the chest, one in the head.
It's not just the New Brighton constabulary..
it appears to be Police policy - instead of dealing with the primary offender, they deal with/to the otherwise law abiding citizens. Like the Asian lady who got in the way of her own car as it was being stolen in South Auckland recently. Did the Police come out with statements of how they were going to catch and deal to the scumbags that stole the car and then ran over the owner? Did they arse. But I heard plently of advice about not chasing criminals when they take your property. This skewed view of crime is echoed on placards in car parks up and down the country: "unlocked cars contribute to growing crime rates" or somesuch tosh. No they do not - little shites who take other people's property and then receive paltry sentences which have no deterrent effect, contribute to the growing crime rate. I should not have to lock my car - crims should leave my car alone, or face serious consequences.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin about!
Don't miss!
Lance, here in Thailand gold shops are popular targets for armed thieves. The Thai shop owners usually take out their guns and fight back; trouble is they keep missing the real targets thereby endangering themselves and others.
