SOLO-NZ Press Release: Ratepayer Money Goes to Mayor Parker's HeadSubmitted by Mark Hubbard on Sat, 2008-08-09 04:00.
SOLO-NZ Press Release: Ratepayer Money Goes to Mayor Parker's Head August 9, 2008 Mayor Parker, once again you have allowed my money to go to your head, says SOLO spokesman Mark Hubbard. He’s referring to the Christchurch City Council's $17 million deal to buy five inner city properties from developer Dave Henderson. “It is not the business of Christchurch City Council to use ratepayer money for private sector property development, and certainly not to bail out private sector developers. You had no mandate to purchase buildings from Dave Henderson. You are forcing me to subsidise failed property developments in other districts, and from that, the failed business model of finance companies, in which I had otherwise prudently (after the event) chosen not to invest. “I know you think such complaints cynical. However, your stated rationale is built upon a most deceitful foundation. This purchase was, quote, 'a strategic move to protect the city centre from poor development.' Pardon? What is the Christchurch Communist District Plan for, other than allowing Council to control just this? And ironically, to the detriment of the private sector, building in cost upon cost, in an orgy of bureaucratic bliss, leading, I am sure, to the self-fulfilling prophecy of 'poor developments' and worse, individual loss for those foolhardy entrepreneurs who have risked their capital. “Rates money is other people’s money, not your own. Christchurch is not your fiefdom. If you want to set up Empire Parker, then do it in the private sector on the risk of your own capital, not on mine. I am sick and tired of Central and Local politicians bleeding me dry, making decisions arrogantly on my behalf, for the supposed common good (which, looking at the small coin left in my wallet, I note has rarely been to my own good). When I moved to Christchurch recently from another district, and a house of the same value, my rates were already doubled, and now they are to rise again. $17 million for the Council to buy; what cost to develop? I do not believe that Council can develop these properties better than the private sector. Hell, I already know you have paid too much, otherwise a private sector entity would have purchased, if such a bargain, would it not? The developer saying he has sold some of the buildings for less than book value means nothing in this collapsed property market. “Flower shows, commercial property development — what next? Tell you what, why doesn't the Council buy my house, for a ridiculous price? I think I'm moving out of state. “In the meantime, it's enough to make me vote Libertarianz, and end the unholy power that local government has been given, along with my line of credit, on a plate,” Hubbard concludes. Nefarious
Mark,
This creep exposes himself on the (sub)Standard from time to time. I confess to occasionally visiting that swamp for similar reasons that Victorian Londoners amused themselves at Bedlam. My suggestion is to ignore him!
Hey, I've got my very first stalker :)
My email reply to nefarious_2000@hotmail.com
With friends like chris lineberry, aka eldo, aka elijah, and poor old perigo
helping you out in your blog you really don't need any enemies, do you!
Well at least I know who they are, being they're not scaredy-cats hiding behind nom de plumes like erstwhile Stasi agents for the Big Nanny Police State, Mr Evil.
Do you think you will be able to stop obsessing over the random choice of
name for this email address of mine, anytime soon?
Um, obsessing? Me?
Whose stalking me through my email? I made my last post to that thread sometime yesterday afternoon and haven't been back.
You have a good day, now, ya hear, I've got work to do. (Ahem, I hope you're not sitting at home on a benefit stalking me with my own damned money?)
I can certainly empathise
I can certainly empathise with your frustration, Mark....deceitful people deliberately misunderstanding and twisting what you say to give entirely the opposite impression...yes...such a bore.
I think all the 'normal' people understand your posts and will not be swayed by some soothsayers and communists.

Synopsis: The thread
Synopsis:
The thread mentioned in my first post below demonstrates why forum debate can be a waste of time. To summarise the thread:
I said, at least twice, " My argument is that the CCC has taken my rates money, and applied it towards ends I am philosophically, implacably opposed to, and have given no mandate for. I fail to see how this is anything other than theft. Further, there is only the single party which has a policy of taking the teeth from a Local Government sector that has grown such a voracious appetite for other people's money, and then mis-using same: Libertarianz."
The opposing argument seemed to boil down to, " Dave Henderson is motivated by one thing, and all the spin in the world will never change that. He is motivated by making money."
Because this rather missed the point, well, not rather, entirely, I ended by saying, " And I have to point out Mr Evil, no problem with 'making money', just with 'taking money'. My standard of living is dependent on the former, as is your own, but destroyed by the latter."
And then, trying to get back on topic, " But can we agree then, regarding your comments on 'graft and corruption', that Libertarianz is the only party that can offer a solution for that, namely by taking politicians out of positions where they have the ability to interfere with business and the private sector, such as evidenced by this debacle?"
On which we 'apparently' agreed, but of course, we did not.

Looks like ...
... some far-lefty Trotskyist blog from the links. Good to see they're paying attention.
