Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights to Open in Washington, D.C.Submitted by Ayn Rand Center on Mon, 2008-08-18 23:06.
Ayn Rand Institute Press Release Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights to Open in Washington, D.C. Irvine, CA--The Ayn Rand Institute is preparing to launch its new public policy and media center, the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights, which will open later this year in Washington, D.C. The Center's Web site has already been launched, and can be visited at http://www.aynrandcenter.org/. The Ayn Rand Center is named after author and philosopher Ayn Rand (1905-1982), who is best known for her novels “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged,” and for her original philosophy Objectivism. According to Dr. Yaron Brook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute, "The Ayn Rand Center's mission is to advance individual rights--the rights of each person to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness--as the moral basis for a fully free, laissez-faire capitalist society." Toward this end, the Ayn Rand Center will promote the philosophical case for individual rights and laissez-faire capitalism to the public policy and business communities, the media, the general public, and elected officials and their staffs. Among its various activities, the Ayn Rand Center will sponsor writing and research; create audio and video commentaries; provide experts to discuss current issues in the media; host public events, talks, lectures, forums, panel discussions, and debates; offer programs to businessmen; reach out to policymakers; and assist victims of governmental abuse in their efforts to defend themselves on moral grounds. The Ayn Rand Center will also produce articles, op-eds, press releases and letters to the editor, all of which were formerly produced by the Ayn Rand Institute. "We are confident," said Dr. Brook, "that the Ayn Rand Center will be instrumental in establishing a future society in which each individual is left free to think and to act on his own best judgment, in which production and profit are seen as virtuous, and in which government is strictly limited to a single function: protecting the legitimate rights of its citizens." ### ### ### Contact: Larry Benson For more information on Objectivism's unique point of view, go to ARI's Web site. Founded in 1985, the Ayn Rand Institute promotes the philosophy of Ayn Rand, author of "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead."

Great News
I've offered my volunteer services to support this since it is in my back yard. Truly exciting.

It's certainly not easy to
It's certainly not easy to be optimistic about this development. It is the damned rotting Belly of the Beast, after all. Hopefully ARI is wise to the nature of DC, which I understand means being willing to meet in smoke-filled rooms over and over and over again, basically hammering your ideas into the people with the power. RAND Corporation and CATO have certainly made their mark, and I don't see why ARI couldn't do the same. To at least become an oft-cited commentary source--like CATO and RAND--in blogs, speeches, stumps, cable TV and such would be a good thing. Good luck to them, I say. If anyone could pull it off, it's ARI.
Jello shots?!?!
Jello shots?!?! ...(hmmmm)...
I think this is a positive move so long as these chaps actually get stuck in and DO something, rather than sigh and shake their heads at the ignorance and stupidity of others vis-a-vis their own philosophy.
Stop talking and start 'doing' chaps....(Washington is that sort of place)...and no one is going to be sympathetic (or even listening) if 18 months from now you are not making a great deal of noise.
Far be it from me to say 'this is your last chance', credibility-wise..but..well...gosh...you get the general idea...
On election day...tick the LIBERTARIANZ box...
It will be interesting to
It will be interesting to see how the ARI does in D.C. The culture there desperately needs Ayn Rand's ideas - that's for sure. The challenge for ARI is to get the Washingtonians to think philosophically. I grew up near there and I can tell you that very little goes beyond the level of politics. It's an abandoned utopia on it's way to dystopia.
Who can they talk to? In the media, there is Glenn Beck. He is genuine about wanting to see America prosper again. But he's got the religion jamming him up. Neither O'Reilly or Lou Dobbs are remotely serious thinkers. Maybe the ARI can persuede some congressmen to consider...oh...hahahahah nevermind about that one.
In any case, congratulations to the ARI for reaching another of their goals. I am 100% supportive of your efforts.
ARI's Washington Assault
ARI's Washington Assault Plan:
1. Invite all major new outlets to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, ensure punch and pie are served.
2. Go to store, buy 60-dozen eggs, throw at FDA, ATF, IRS and FCC buildings, in alphabetical order.
3. Totally take a group nude photo in front of the Washington Monument, just for Linz.
4. Get wasted on Schnapps and Jello-shots, kidnap POTUS and give him a mohawk. (futile attempt to keep POTUS off the "party powder" fails, missiles are launched.)
5. Take over Congress. Seriously.
Rand's "Washington Man"?
Seriously, this is an enormously important development.
Miss Rand Goes to Washington
"We are confident," said Dr. Brook, "that the Ayn Rand Center will be instrumental in establishing a future society in which each individual is left free to think and to act on his own best judgment, in which production and profit are seen as virtuous, and in which government is strictly limited to a single function: protecting the legitimate rights of its citizens."
Relocating itself to the Heart of Darkness was supposed to be the saving of The KASSless Society, as well as western civilisation. We've all seen what happened. Somehow I think this new ARI venture will make a better fist of it.
