SOLO-NZ Press Release: PC Theocrats Turn On One Of Their OwnSubmitted by Lindsay Perigo on Wed, 2008-08-27 23:37.
SOLO-NZ Press Release: PC Theocrats Turn On One Of Their Own August 28, 2008 Hard on the heels of the warning from ex-All Black coach Sir Brian Lochore that Political Correctness is destroying New Zealand, a nameless PC theocrat is attempting to shut down the freedom of speech of one of his own icons, notes SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo. This in the wake of a New Zealand Herald report that "the author of a book on cannibalism in Maori history is disappointed a racism complaint has been made about it to the Human Rights Commission." The book is This Horrid Practice by history professor Paul Moon, a one-time pin-up boy of Mordi separatists. It reportedly ascribes pre-colonial Maori cannibalism to rage and humiliation rather than a desire to partake of vanquished enemies' mana. The anonymous complainant to the Human Rights Commission claims the book "describes the whole of Maori society as violent and dangerous. This is a clearly racist view claiming a whole ethnic group has these traits." Dr Moon says, "I think it's just very sad that it's come to this stage that when you write about certain topics in New Zealand history you get complaints and accusations of racism levelled at you." Perigo responds: "Quite right, too, Dr Moon. But welcome to the culture of unfree speech and argument by intimidation that your fellow-academics have studiously fostered over decades. Now that you've been bitten by it, I hope you'll join the resistance to it. "New Zealand has no official religion, but unofficially, the theology of Political Correctness, with its long list of taboos, is assuming the status and power of a theocracy. Academia is the heart of it — and honest academics like Dr Moon are ideally positioned to drive a stake through it," Perigo concludes. Small mercies
I'm surprised they won't act on it in these times.

Clarification about complaint
The Human Rights Commission has received an anonymous letter complaining about a recently published book This Horrid Practice by Dr Paul Moon.
The Commission does not act on anonymous complaints and therefore the Human Rights Commission has not received a formal complaint of unlawful discrimination about the book."
