Thank you

Having listened to WC & AOW for the past couple of years and of course following your work in a visual sense, it felt very surreal.

It was great hearing your

It was great hearing your beautiful voice on the show, Sandi. I'll be posting here and other places when publication is finally set.

Good to know you'll be listening in, Sandi, and it really is great to see a station like KFNX get behind an explicitly anti-jihad show like Voices of Freedom. It's rarity speaks volumes, but that it exists tells us this is just the beginning of shows like it.

I am a regular listener of "The Gathering Storm"

I look forward to hearing you again Bosch. You are an excellent speaker.

(Sat 0700am NZ time)

I was going to add that isn't it wonderful for radio KFNX give such a huge amount of support to the bloggers. But I want to erase the word wonderful and replace it with moral.
Media with integrity, such a rare commodity these days.

Mindy, you ask about

"...a graphic hero who was normal and looked normal and remained normal, and used normal means, and who confronted and defeated everyday evil?"

There are, sure. But I want to also add that one of the draws of a comic book character like SPIDERMAN, as opposed to Superman, is the depiction of the "real" life problems of Peter Parker: work, bills, health, relationships. Often his powers get in the way of those situations and he has to deal with those situations with his mind, not his webswinging. And just as he had to fight supervillains, he also had to fight mob kingpins, corrupt businessmen (), popular opinion of the "man on the street" and the "biased" journalism of the paper for which he sold the photos of his exploits as Spiderman.

Mindy, I must say that

Mindy, I must say that William Howland, the hero of my first graphic novel, Table for One, comes to mind. I 'pitch' the book at conventions as 'Dirty Harry as a waiter.' And here’s a short take on the story, which takes place in New York, shortly after 9/11:

'It's one hell of a night in an underground restaurant in Manhattan. William Howland's boss bet against him lasting a year as a waiter under him. Today's the big payday, but on this night, Will's code to treat all as they deserve doesn't serve anyone well, and he might not even last the night. Then She walks in....'

Here’s a choice image from the book, which gives you an idea of the kind of night he's having:

After it was done and posted, it hit me that it does really suggest Miller's style, particularly his Sin City one in its stark black and white. Good eye.

Has there ever been...

...a graphic hero who was normal and looked normal and remained normal, and used normal means, and who confronted and defeated everyday evil?

The drama of such a hero comes from the risks involved in standing up for his values at every turn. The mundane sorting out of what to confront, where to oppose, clever means to use, the over-reactions of the evil-doers, their bringing outside forces to bear, the intimidation efforts, and how the hero copes with all of this. It would be a detailed portrayal of a wholly rational man, which is something many people have trouble envisioning. It would be a demonstration that reason is efficacious. It would be a demonstration of selfishness, and would contrast reasoned self-interest with the predatory behavior that promotes itself as altruism.

I suppose this is on a par with programs like "Seventh Heaven", (which I do not like) in which religious mores guide a numerous family. Only it would put life as it ought to be on view.

Anybody know of a character like this?
